South of Midnight Chapter 8 has only 5 collectibles: 4 Readables and 1 Storybook. The Storybook is automatically collected as you progress through the story, but you’ll need to locate the 4 Readables yourself. Below is a walkthrough to help you find them.

Follow the Path Towards the Witch’s House

Starting in Chapter 8 of Their Eyes Were Watching, begin at the top of the mountains and glide across the abyss. This is where wind tunnels come into play. Jump into the wind tunnel and glide to reach the other side.

At the end of the first wind tunnel, you’ll also encounter the first Floof of the chapter.

1/4 – Delta-346 – Missing Child – Readables Collectible

Also in this area, look for a tree stump with the first Readables collectible.

2/4 – Delta-346 – Weird Happenings – Readables Collectible

Next, slide down the slope, avoiding the thorns, and jump into another wind tunnel at the end. During the flight, avoid being hit by thorns. At the other end, look for a Floof and Readables collectible 2/4 to the left.

3/4 – Delta-346 – Red Yarn – Readables Collectible

Use the pile of stones to break the roots on the mountain wall and reveal a wall run. Cross to the other side using it. Right after the wall run, you’ll find the third Readables Collectible of Chapter 8: Their Eyes Were Watching, sitting on top of a tree stump.

Nearby is a metal sheet you can flip for Floof.

Slide down the next thorny slide and jump into the wind tunnel at the end. This tunnel ends abruptly on a climbable wall. Look for the white ledges when approaching and steer toward them. Climb to the next section, where another wind tunnel awaits. Before taking it, look up, and you will spot a Floof that you can’t reach. You have to climb around the mountain to get there. Jump down onto a platform, where you can climb around the mountain to get this Floof.

You can now collect the Floof, with the next wind tunnel in the background.

Take the next Wind Tunnel to the next area, near a river, where you can flip a board for Floof.

Cross the river and follow the path up the mountain, where you have to cross over a patch of land to get to a Magic Object.

Follow the path across the river, where you can use a grapple to get you higher. A big climb up a mountain wall is ahead. But first, follow the log across the abyss and climb down to a Floof on the other side.

Climb back to the log, then all the way up the mountain wall to find the first Stigma fighting zone in Chapter 8, introducing the Overseer Haint. After clearing it, look for an overhead grapple to reach a Floof inside a cave.

4/4 – Delta-346 – Search Called Off – Readables Collectible

From the Stigma point, use the grapple to cross into the next area. Ahead, you’ll see a cave with red yarn. Before reaching the red yarn, check on top of a rock for the final Readables collectible in this chapter.

Destroy the red yard barrier and continue on, avoiding the explosive mushrooms, across the abyss and running on the wall. Here, look down to spot a Floof at the bottom of the cave. Glide down to get it, then use the nearby pillar to climb back up.

Keep climbing up the cave until you reach a gap where you can squeeze through, starting Chapter 9.
