South Of Midnight Chapter 5 Collectibles
South of Midnight Chapter 5 has 14 collectibles: 1 Magic Object, 1 Pattern, 11 Readables, and 1 Storybook. The Magic Object and Storybook are automatically collected as you progress through the story, but you’ll need to locate the 11 Readables yourself. Below is a walkthrough to help you find them.

1. Make Your Way Across The Flood in South of Midnight
Chapter 5 of South of Midnight begins with a few grapples to cross the water. Follow the path straight ahead until you reach a gap in a hedge. Squeeze through the gap, and on the other side, Hazel discovers a piece from her house along with Crouton, her toy.
Magic Object: Crouton – Introduction in Chapter 5
Crouton can be adjusted to fit into smaller spaces, adding more complexity to the game.
Control Crouton and guide it through the glowing tree log as shown in the tutorial. Move through the underground tunnel and interact with the Stigma at the end. This will clear the corruption in the area, allowing Crouton to collect the “Floof” beneath the metal platform.
1/11 – Burrower’s – Pieces of the Self – Readables collectible in South of Midnight
Look inside the hollow tree next to the hollow log where Hazel sent Crouton. You’ll find a Readables collectible there.
Head down the Strand past the Jolene advertisement until you reach an area with a school bus. On the left, you’ll see a house with a barricaded crawlspace. Use “Strand Push” to break the barricade, then send Crouton inside. On the other side, go up the ramp and interact with the pile of stones on the tree stump to collect “Floof”.
Climb the nearby caravan, then glide to the house. From there, glide over to the “Floof.”
Next, cross the water and destroy the explosive mushrooms near the thorns with Crouton so you can cross. Follow the Strand inside the brown train car. Inside, destroy the barricaded crawlspace and let Crouton destroy the Stigma at the other side.
As Hazel, explore the new area. You’ll find a Floof behind a barrier, but watch out for the explosive mushroom nearby. Make sure to deal with the mushroom first before heading to the Floof. After that, follow the Strand to reach the next section.
2. Clear the Stigma near the Giant Statues
In this next section of Chapter 5, you’ll see the Giant Statues ahead. Start by climbing the truck on your right. You’ll find a Floof at the end of the path.
Head into the next area to encounter the giant gator from Chapter 4 again. Keep moving forward. When you reach the water, throw Crouton to the other side to destroy the Stigma, allowing Hazel to cross safely. Before following the Strand, take a closer look at the shed hanging in the tree. Throw Crouton into the crawlspace to find a “Floof” inside.
2/11 – Statue Flyer – Readables Collectible in South of Midnight
Head to the diner with the Haint corruption. You’ll find this Readable collectible attached to a fence pole.
Head towards the Giant Statues to fight the Haint, destroy the Stigma, and collect the memory in the bottle.
3. Reach the Church
Before heading straight to the church after the fight, climb onto the giant axe to reach Auntie Belle’s Advertisement and grab the “Floof” from the top.
You can interact with the entrance door to Auntie Belle’s, but it only adds to the story and isn’t a collectible. Behind the building, you’ll find another truck with an explosive mushroom. Destroy the mushroom, climb onto the truck, and use the grapple to glide to a house roof in the water where you can collect a “Floof.”
Now cross over towards the church where the explosive mushrooms are. As soon as she gets to the other side, Hazel is meeting Ms. Pearle and Jolene at the church.
4. Clear the Stigma in the Flooded Village
After the cutscene, look around the church.
3/11 – Burrower’s – Iron
There is a Readables collectible on top of a crate near the entrance.
There’s a crawlspace under the church that you can access from the side of the pens. Break the barricade and send Crouton inside to get the “Floof”.
Behind the church, drop down to the water, where you can find a “Floof”.
Head across the water to the flooded village. In the first house on the right, you’ll find a “Floof,” guarded by two explosive mushrooms.
4/11 – Hollow Dreamers
Take a look at the veranda of the same house—there’s one of the Readables collectible on the couch.
Go to the next area, where Hazel needs to fight the Haith and clear a Stigma. You’ll find another Floof on top of a mobile home. Use the nearby grapple point to reach the roof.
Leave the area by climbing up a nearby rock. At the water tower, turn right to get to the next part of the flooded village. After another sequence with the giant gator, look for explosive mushrooms to the right, where you can flip a metal sheet for Floof.
Cross over from here by using a grapple to fight the Haith at the other side and remove the Stigma.
5. Climb Monarch Cotton
Before heading to the house in the former fight zone of Flooded Village Stigma, use the grapple to reach the large statues near the diner. In the middle of a sunflower field, you’ll find a small water tank with a Health Filament on top. To climb the water tower, you can use two objects nearby: a shed and a cart.
Climb onto the cart and then weave the shed. From there, cross over to the Water Tower.
5/11 – Kids Need a Hand
Return to the house at the former Flooded Village Stigma site and enter it. There’s a Readables on the dining table.
6/11 – Jo’s Penance
Go upstairs and look for a Readables Collectible on the bedroom table.
Leave the house and head toward Monarch Cotton. In the next area, Hazel spots Beaux lying on a bench at the petrol station. Go behind the building, “Weave” the truck, climb up, and jump over to the building to reach the roof, where you’ll find a Floof.
Leave Beaux behind and cross the water near his boats with the dogs. You’ll see a damaged “Flood” advertisement with a Floof on top. After crossing the water, head uphill and jump onto the advertisement to collect the Floof.
Cross over from there to the next area, avoiding the sh*t sprinkler. After the sprinkler, head down to the right where you can pick up another Floof near the Water Tower.
Head to the top of the area and cross to the other side, avoiding another sprinkler. Once there, Hazel needs to climb a tall metal frame next to a giant flower. At the base of the frame, there’s an overgrowth that can be cleared using “Strand Push.” This climb is “Monarch Cotton”.
6. Reach the Old Farm in South of Midnight
When you reach the top of Monarch Cotton, Hazel will notice another Stigma at the Old Farm. Climb down to find a large barn area with a sprinkler. Use “Strand Push” to open the barn door and go inside. Here, you can flip a metal sheet for Floof.
Push open the gates on the other side to exit. In the middle of the flood, you’ll see a squealing, panicked pig. Hazel worries this might attract the gator. Cross over to get closer to the pig, where you’ll find another metal sheet to flip.
Approach the pig and use “Strand Pull” to move it. Shortly after, a gator will appear. Once the cutscene ends, cross to the other side. Use a grapple to reach another stigma. After the fight, look for an area blocked by overgrowth and destroy it to uncover a generator. Activate the generator to power the button for the hayball mechanism. Once activated, the hayball will drop into the center of the river, allowing you to cross—just be sure to avoid the sprinkler!
Here is a larger farm area, the Old Farm. First, look for the metal sheet near a picnic table that you can flip to the right side.
7. Clear 2 Stigma Around The Farm in South of Midnight
Before destroying the two Stigmas on the farm, take a moment to explore. You need to pick up all collectibles before you destroy them.
Go to the barn and push open the doors. Inside, you’ll find a Floof. To reach it, move the cart on the other side of the barn, climb on top, and use it to get to the window where the Floof is located.
There’s a Floof located high up on the windmill. At the base of the windmill, you’ll find a crate you can “Weave” and push toward the windmill. Use it to climb up and collect the Floof.
7/11 – Yard Sale Notice
From the top of the windmill, parkour across toward the hayball tower. Here, you can reach a mobile home at the back of the house with a Readables collectible on the chair. Go near the water behind this house to flip a metal sheet for Floof.
On the way back to the farm, there is a Floof just below the Stigma fighting zone. Use the grapple to get across to pick it up.
Go back to the Farmhouse. Behind it, you can flip a metal sheet.
8/11 – Honor thy Father and Mother
Enter the Old Farmhouse. There is a Readables collectible on the lounge table.
There is a Floof in the upstairs bedroom.
9/11 – A Bashful Farmhand in the Setting Sun
And another Readables collectible in the other bedroom.
Now, destroy the two Stigmas in the area. One is located to the left of the Farmhouse, and the other can be found behind the barn. This part of the chapter will end with a chase sequence, like in Chapter 4.
8. Reach the Pig Factory
After the chase scene, you arrive at a new location across the water from the Old Farm. Before heading over, you can destroy another Stigma site to earn extra Floof.
Follow the Strand to the Pig Factory and find a door that needs power. The switch won’t work, so trace the yellow cable to a small, barricaded passage. Use Strand Push to destroy the barricade, then summon Crouton to enter. Inside, use the small ramp to get to the generator and activate it when you’re there.
10/11 – The Pigs are a Loss
Enter the pig factory and follow the corridor to the first room, where you can find this Readables collectible on top of a wooden table.
Enter the next room, filled with dead pigs, and look for a barricaded passage. Use “Strand Push” to break through it. Summon Crouton and head to the left to press a button, which will clear the path for Hazel.
10. Reach the Riverbend in South of Midnight
Once outside, follow the path to a small island. There, you can get another Floof by “Weaving” a trailer and a shed in the water.
Follow the path until Hazel reaches the radio tower. Start by destroying the two barricades at the top of the tower using stones from the nearby pile. Next, “Weave” the truck, climb onto it, “Weave” the hay pile, and then climb to the top of the tower. From there you can get to the other side.
11. Defeat Two-Toed Tom
Head into the fighting zone to face Two-Toed Tom. He has three health bars. Avoid his attacks by double jumping and gliding until the church bell appears. Once it does, pull the bell, which will make Tom collapse, allowing Hazel to attack his tongue.
When Tom’s health drops by a third, he’ll kick the bell away, and Hazel will need to follow it to a new fighting area. There, you’ll fight through another third of Tom’s health. Once he’s down again, the bell will fly off, and you’ll need to follow it one last time to finish the fight. In this final stage, Hazel can only ring the bell by throwing a stone at it.
At the end of the fight, Tom swallows Hazel, and the rest of the adventure will take place inside him. Follow the path until you reach a big room.
12. Reach the Wound in South of Midnight
As in Chapter 3, you also need to reach the wound in Chapter 5 to heal it. Use the debris floating in the water to help you—ignore the squeaking pig, as it doesn’t count. There’s also a Floof near the water.
11/11 – Sutter’s Will and Testament
Jump back onto a float and look for the only climbable wall in here. It will lead you to the last Readables collectible in this chapter.
Continue toward the wound. At one point, throw a vase at an advertisement to break it and reveal a grapple point. Once you reach the wound, attack it to heal it.
13. Investigate the Mobile Home
Back on land, head into the Mobile Home and interact with the Memory Object inside to continue. Once the cutscene ends, leave the Mobile Home and talk to Catfish to finish Chapter 5.
