The Gamemaker in Settsu has a gripping task for Naoe in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. She challenges Naoe to play a seemingly innocent children’s game. Around west Osaka, she has hidden ten colorful origami butterflies. However, this disguises a chilling reality. A group of kidnappers, known as the “Butterfly Collectors,” is operating in the area, and Naoe must uncover their sinister plot and put an end to it. Among the ten origami butterflies, three white ones are linked to the kidnappers, while the remaining seven, designed in bright colors, are harmless.

White Origami 1 – Letter
The first white origami butterfly is positioned north of the Osaka Kakurega, right by the river. Once you collect it, you will find a hidden message inside that reads:
“Kacho, I secured the child without problem. Her mother was told to bring the ransom to that burnt-out well just north of the Temple of Osaka. There’s no one other but gardeners, so it’s easy to watch. No payment yet. – Richo”
This message triggers a quest titled “All Will be Well.” You will need to investigate the burnt-out buildings situated north of the Temple of Osaka, as referenced in the letter. Once you arrive, you’ll overhear someone discussing a bamboo grove near Noda Village, which is located north of Osaka Castle. Scan the area nearby, and you will locate Richo, one of the Butterfly Collectors, beside a cabin. Defeat him, open the cabin door, and follow the rescued child back to their mother to wrap up this part of the mission.
White Origami 2 – Letter
The second white origami butterfly can be found southeast of the Osaka Kakurega, again near the river. It contains another hidden message:
“Kacho, The child escaped, but she cannot have gone far. I am retracing my steps through the Fishermen’s District. When I was observing her, I learned she loves horses. I will begin my search near the western stables. – Richo”
Using this clue, head to the Fishermen’s District in the southern portion of Osaka. The stables mentioned are located just to the west of the big bridge. Here, you’ll find the child. Speak to her to gain a lead on the captor’s hideout, which lies inside an open storage building also located west of the Fishermen’s District. Inside the building, you’ll discover an additional letter titled Monshiro’s Diary Page, which reveals alarming details:
“I know where Kacho’s hideout is. She thinks us unable to think for ourselves, or she would have been more careful. Some of her butterflies escaped and now mark her garden for anyone who cares to look. – She can never suspect that I know, or she will kill me.”
With this information, track down Shucho, another Butterfly Collector, located to the south of the Fishermen’s District. Ensure you deal with her before proceeding further.
White Origami 3 – Letter
The third white origami butterfly can be found west of the Temple of Osaka, near the river. Inside, you’ll find a message that exposes yet another grim plan:
“Kacho, I will lure the sake merchant’s child to the island west of Osaka and hold him there. His father is weak and will give us whatever we want. You will soon have control of sake trade in Osaka -Mucho”
Follow the instructions in the note and head to the island located west of Osaka, at the Kojo Ruins. Use the nearby bridge to cross over. Here, you will find Mucho, who needs to be assassinated to rescue the sake merchant’s child. After ensuring the child’s safety, escort him back home.
Once the sake merchant’s child is safe, your next destination is the paper merchant north of the Temple of Osaka. His shop is easy to identify with its paper umbrellas arranged outside. Enter the shop and talk to the paper merchant. He will provide you with crucial information about the leader of the kidnappers. He reveals that she resides in Nishinomaru Garden, a hostile area located just west of Osaka Castle. Make your way to this location to confront Kacho:
Upon entering Nishinomaru Garden, you will trigger a cutscene leading into a final fight. Take down Kacho to bring this mission to its conclusion.
After collecting all ten origami butterflies, return to the Gamemaker. She can be found in Katano near the Ornament Vendor. Delivering the butterflies marks the conclusion of this fascinating but dark questline.
The Butterfly Collector mission in Assassin’s Creed Shadows blends investigative gameplay with challenging combat. It weaves a compelling narrative that exposes the darkness lurking behind seemingly innocent games. Each origami butterfly adds a layer to the story, making it a gripping adventure for players to unravel while exploring Osaka.
