Star Wars Outlaws Data Spike and First Bet – Beginnings Guide

Beginnings is the first main quest in Star Wars Outlaws and starts at the Broken Hoof cantina in Canto Bight. Bram hands you a broken data spike, and you need credits to repair it before you can break into Club Tarsus for a forged identicard. This walkthrough covers every step, including how to win the first fathier race bet.

Main Quest: Beginnings
Location: The Broken Hoof, Canto Bight, Cantonica

Mission Objective:
“Everyone in Canto Bight will be focused on the Canto Cup race, which is the perfect time for a job. Kay knows that the Sixth Kin keep identicards in their safe at Club Tarsus. She will need one to finally hitch a ride off-world.”

Once you take control of Kay, go into the Broken Hoof cantina and talk to Bram, who runs the place and works as Kay’s handler. A Sullustan mercenary hands him a datapad with a new job, but Bram keeps it from Kay, tells her to take a low-risk job instead and gives her a broken data spike.

Location: Preeban’s Shop, Canto Bight

Leave the cantina and follow the yellow mission marker on your HUD to Preeban’s shop. On the way, pick up anything marked with a blue hand symbol. These are Valuables, and you can sell them at shops marked with a credit sign on your HUD.

You can also use Nix to steal from people. On PS5, press L1 to see the area through Nix’s eyes, and a Steal prompt shows up when there is something to take.

Preeban agrees to repair the data spike, but he wants 150 credits for it.

Location: Canto Bight

Keep picking up Valuables and steal from the people Nix can rob. They walk around and look a bit different from the other civilians.

How to Win the First Fathier Race Bet

Talk to Valek in front of a shop. He gives you credits for a bet and hints at the likely winner. Read the datapad on the table next to the shop entrance: it says the winning fathier is smaller than the rest.

Go back to the Broken Hoof and find the betting tablet at the tables with holograms. Check every fathier’s weight and size in centimetres and bet on the smallest one.

Once you have 150 credits, return to Preeban and pay him.

Location: Club Tarsus, Canto Bight

Preeban repairs the data spike, so you can now pick locks. Practice on the small box next to Preeban and follow the tutorial until you get the hang of it.

The mission marker leads to the Club Tarsus entrance, but two bouncers block the way. Ignore them and follow the marker to the left. Crouch under a gate and use the data spike on the first lock on the other side.

Go through the door and follow the only path to a small courtyard. Use Kay’s grappling hook to get up.

At the top, look for the yellow climbing rails above you. Yellow marks everything you can climb in Star Wars Outlaws. Grab the rails, climb to the right over the fence and drop down on the other side.

Here you find a locked door and an open window. Press L1 to switch to Nix, look through the door and use the door switch. Nix climbs in through the window and unlocks the door.

The door leads into the Club Tarsus bathroom. Go through the bathroom door to get into the club.

Location: Club Tarsus

Go down the blue staircase and follow the yellow marker on your HUD to a balcony overlooking the main floor. Head left to a security guard patrolling a staircase that leads down. Use Nix to steal the Club Tarsus Keycard from him.

Walk down the stairs. The guard does not stop you. On the main floor, talk to the bartender. She tells you that Vrell, the guard at the door to the restricted area, cares about money and his new T-85 speeder.

Bribe or Bluff Vrell

Talk to Vrell at the door on the main floor. If you have enough credits, bribe him. If you don’t, bluff to get him to leave.

Open the restricted area with the Club Tarsus Keycard. Sneak up on the guard and take him down as the game shows you. The office door is at the end of the corridor. Inside, use the data spike on the storage vault next to the desk.

Go into the storage room and take the only item there.

Location: Club Tarsus

This part is the combat tutorial. Defeat the first attackers and leave the office through the only open door. At the end of the corridor, open the door with the panel and go up the stairs.

Follow the path to a courtyard with an elevator that has yellow sides, which means you can climb it. Climb up to the balcony and go through the door into a locker room.

In the locker room, the game shows you how to take down enemies with Nix. The next room is a storage area where you learn to stun enemies. Defeat the three enemies there, then keep going until you meet a fourth one, which tells you that you are on the right track.

Look for a vent marked in yellow, open the panel and crouch through the vents until you come out in the city.

Back in the city, make your way to the Broken Hoof cantina by jumping and climbing across the rooftops. Inside, follow the mission marker to Kay’s room, where Bram confronts her about what she did. To get her out of trouble, he hands her the job he got from the Sullustan mercenary at the start of the quest.

Beginnings ends in Kay’s room, and the job Bram hands over leads straight into the next main quest, Outlaws.
