Star Wars Outlaws New Tricks Guide – How to Get the Ion Blaster

New Tricks is the fifth main quest in Star Wars Outlaws and the one that gives you the ion blaster. Collect the two parts, build the Ion Module on the Trailblazer and use your new ion shots to open a Hutt Cartel Storehouse for Danka.

Main Quest: New Tricks (Step 1 of 6)
Location: Makal’s Gambling Parlor, Mirogana – Toshara
Quest Text: “Speaking to Danka, Kay has realized that she needs to upgrade her tools to stay effective in the underworld. Danka has a lead on a merchant who can provide parts for Kay to upgrade her blaster.”

Danka, the Mon Calamari broker, is still waiting at Makal’s Gambling Parlor, where you left her at the end of Underworld. Her next job needs an ion blaster.

Kay offers to modify her own blaster if she can get the parts, and Danka sends her to a merchant named Belo.

Main Quest: New Tricks (Step 2 of 6)
Location: Pawn Shop north of the Mirogana Market

Belo’s Pawn Shop is just north of the Mirogana Market and has a gun symbol on the map. With the quest tracked in your Journal, follow the yellow marker to the shop.

Talk to Belo and he hands you the Ion Casing (Blaster Key Part) for free.

Kay also asks Belo for an ion energy converter, but he refuses because they are illegal. Waka suggests stealing one instead, either from the Pyke Syndicate or from Crimson Dawn.

Pyke Syndicate or Crimson Dawn?

Pick the syndicate you get along with best. With Good reputation you can walk through most of their district, and only the restricted areas need stealth.

If you told Gorak about the traitor in Underworld, your Pyke Syndicate reputation is already Good, so the Pyke route is the easier one. Both routes are below.

Main Quest: New Tricks (Step 3 of 6)
Location: Pyke Syndicate District or Crimson Dawn District, Mirogana

Pyke Syndicate District Route

The blaster part in the Pyke Syndicate District is close to the Crooked Merchant Intel stash, so you can pick up both in one trip.

Find the dimly lit alley watched by a security camera. Sneak past the camera and disable it, because it guards a vent cover. Open the vent and crawl inside.

The vent leads into the Mirogana Pyke Syndicate Vault. The chest with the blaster part sits right next to the vent you came in through.

Chest contents: Ion Energy Converters (Blaster Key Part)

The vault itself stays locked for now. You need three keycards for it, which is the Intel: Pyke Syndicate Vault quest.

Crimson Dawn District Route

Two vents near the circular restaurant on the border of the Crimson Dawn District lead inside. The entry point shown in the Expert Intel: The Slicer guide gives you the best view of the guards from above.

The Ion Energy Converters are at the Crimson Dawn Vault next to the landing pad, which is a restricted area. Sneak across the landing pad and watch the patrolling guards.

The back entrance is a large ventilator propeller. Use Nix to find its lever at the landing pad and have Nix hold it down. The propeller stops for a few seconds, which is enough to get through.

Follow the pipe and drop the ladder to get down into the vault area, where the chest with the Ion Energy Converters stands against the wall. To get out, climb back up and have Nix stop the propeller again.

The vault door here needs keycards too. See Mirogana Crimson Dawn Vault and All 3 Keycards for those.

Once you have the part, Waka calls to say he has repaired the Trailblazer and moved it to the settlement of Jaunta’s Hope. This is the first of several Trailblazer landing spots.

Main Quest: New Tricks (Step 4 of 6)
Location: The Trailblazer, Jaunta’s Hope Landing Zone – Toshara

Jaunta’s Hope is the large settlement in the western part of the Toshara map. The Trailblazer is parked in the Jaunta’s Hope Landing Zone.

Go inside and use the workbench on the left. Select Module > Ion > Burst to build the standard Ion Module. The ion shots are effective against shields and droids.

Main Quest: New Tricks (Step 5 of 6)
Location: Hutt Cartel Storehouse, The Lost Steppe, just southwest of Jaunta’s Hope

The Smuggler’s Cache Danka wants is inside the Hutt Cartel Storehouse. The building is unguarded, but its door is broken.

The power core for the door is behind the barred window. Switch your blaster to Ion mode and shoot the power core to charge the door, then run inside quickly, because the charge only lasts a short time.

Chest contents: Tracking Transponder

This chest also counts toward the Undiscovered Treasures. It is one of the Lost Steppe treasures. The ion blaster also opens the Sopashi Farm chest, one of the Grazing Fields treasures.

Main Quest: New Tricks (Step 6 of 6)
Location: Daruda Diner, Jaunta’s Hope – Toshara

Bring the Tracking Transponder to Danka at the Daruda Diner in Jaunta’s Hope. She introduces Kay to two Elite Intel contacts, which completes New Tricks.

Expert Intel: The Slicer starts with Underworld Rumors at Makal’s Gambling Parlor and unlocks the treasure in Kerro’s Speakeasy.
Expert Intel: The Speeder Mechanic starts with Boosting the Speeder at the Daruda Diner.

When you leave the diner, the next main quest, False Flag, starts.
