Red Tape Blues Mission Overview

Mission type: Miscellaneous Mission, not tied to any faction or the main story
Quest giver: Trevor Petyarre, foreman of the Deimos miners
Location: Cydonia, Mars, Sol system
Prerequisite: None
Rewards: 100 XP and a credit reward that scales with your level
Quest chain: Red Tape Blues, then Red Tape Runaround, then Red Tape Reclamation

You do not need the activity to start this mission. If you overhear the miners complaining in Cydonia you get SPEAK TO TREVOR, but you can also just walk up to him.

Your answers on the job application do not decide whether you get hired, so do not worry about getting them wrong. The best answers are still listed in step 4 if you want a clean file.

1 – Speak to Trevor

Take the stairs down into the mining cavern in the middle of Cydonia. Trevor Petyarre is standing near the mine carts next to a broken transport, holding a clipboard. Tell him you are looking for work. He has no mining jobs, but he does need help getting new equipment approved.

2 – Gather 10 Iron

Mission Text:
“I offered to do some work for Trevor Petyarre, but before he gives me my task, he needs to know he can trust me. I’ve agreed to help him by mining some additional ore to add to his team’s quota.”

Equip your Cutter and open your scanner to highlight the IRON deposits on the rock piles around the cavern. Mine ten and drop them into the orange mining cart right in front of Trevor. If you lost your Cutter, you can buy a new one upstairs from Denis Averin.

Do not use Elemental Pull to grab the ore here. It can turn everyone in the mining area hostile.

No Iron in Cydonia Fix

If your scanner shows no iron, the deposits either did not spawn or you mined them before you started the quest. Mine 10 iron anywhere else, fly back to Cydonia and drop it into the cart. The objective only checks that you deliver 10 iron, not where it came from.

3 – Speak with Trevor

Mission Text:
“After delivering the ore, I need to speak with Trevor so he can tell me about my next task.”

Go back to Trevor and talk to him. He explains that Peter Brennan, the Director of Mining Operations, is the only one who can approve the equipment request, and he fired his last assistant over a month ago. Trevor’s plan is to get you hired as that assistant.

4 – Apply for the Assistant to the Director Job

Mission Text:
“Trevor needs me to help him get a request for new equipment approved by the Deimos mining executive. I’m supposed to apply to be the executive’s assistant through the company’s application system up at Deimos Staryards.”

Board your ship and fly up to the Deimos Staryard, which orbits Deimos, one of the two moons of Mars. Select it on the Mars system map, dock and board.

Just inside, interact with the Deimos Infokiosk, open Job Posting: Executive Assistant and apply. You get seven questions to answer.

Executive Assistant Application Answers

These answers give you the best assessment note on your file. The job is yours no matter what you choose, because you delete every other candidate later anyway.

Question 1, years of experience:
5-10 years

Question 2, education:
Bachelor’s Degree

Question 3, the Executive wants a whiskey neat:
About 43 ml shot of whiskey, served in a glass at room temp

Question 4, a VIP is waiting and the Executive is late:
Offer drinks, apologize, and assure them the Executive will return soon

Question 5, the Executive’s starship will not start:
Use the company credits to immediately charter an expensive luxury craft

Question 6, an email claims damaging information about the Executive:
Take the info to the board of directors so they can handle it

Question 7, the Executive calls you to their office drunk at night:
Contact security and let them deal with it

5 – Speak with Trevor

Mission Text:
“I’ve applied to the executive assistant job. Now I need to speak with Trevor so he can tell me how to ensure I’m picked for the job.”

Fly back to Cydonia and talk to Trevor. He wants you to delete every other application on the HR computer in the corporate office upstairs, and he hands you a data slate with the password. Ask him how to get in unseen. The HR director, Tia Wu, leaves for happy hour at The Broken Spear every evening at 17:00.

6 – Delete the Other Candidate’s Applications

Mission Text:
“Trevor wants me to delete all the other applications for the job on the HR computer upstairs in the corporate office. I’ll need to wait until the evening for the HR staff to leave the office, then sneak in.”

Take the stairs closest to Trevor up to the Deimos corporate office overlooking the mine. Tia Wu sits at the HR computer during the day, so you can’t do it while she’s there. Just sit in a nearby chair and wait until 17:00 local time. That’s when she heads to The Broken Spear with Leona Hawkes and Gilly Seong. Peter Brennan can still be in his office at that hour, but you can ignore him.

Deimos HR Computer Password

Log in to the Deimos HR Computer with the password from Trevor’s slate: drowssap, which is password spelled backwards. Open Job Applications and either delete the candidates one by one or scroll down and choose Delete All Other Candidate Applications. Open your own file first if you want to see how your answers were rated.

7 – Speak with Trevor

Mission Text:
“I’ve deleted all the other applications so that only mine remains in the system. I need to return to Trevor to let him know I’ve accomplished this.”

Go back to Trevor on Cydonia. Deimos has already been in touch, and with no other candidates left, you are Peter Brennan’s new executive assistant. Red Tape Blues completes with 100 XP and a credit reward, and the follow-up Red Tape Runaround starts right away.
