The quest starts automatically, after Smoke and Ashes. Anca is telling Coen that he should meet her at the inn at St. Tyna’s when he’s ready.

Quest Text:
“Anca told me to meet her at the old inn near St. Tyna’s – and we’ll go to the monastery together from there.”

The old inn is near St. Tyna’s in the west of the map, close to a Destroyed Shrine. The closest shrines you can fast travel to are Stuga Marshes in the north and Birch Woodlet in the south.

The inn is badly run down, and Anca is the only person there. Leaving with her for the convent costs one time slot.

Quest Text:
“This fog – it’s not natural, that’s for sure. We should stick together and watch each other’s backs as we approach St. Tyna’s.”

Follow Anca towards the convent and into the thick fog. The time slot from leaving the inn is spent once you make your way through it.

Investigate the Body (Optional)

Before you get through the fog, the two find a camp with a body. Investigating it is optional and costs nothing. There are three investigation points on the body:
-> His stomach.
-> His face.
-> The torch.

The two then continue on their way and arrive at the convent, where they hear the nuns singing.

Quest Text:
“We managed to get to St. Tyna’s – and were surprised to hear voices coming from within. What’s going on? We need to open the gates and see for ourselves.”

Interact with the Convent gates to open them.

An undead nun attacks as soon as they enter. Once she is defeated, investigate the three highlighted points:
-> near her belt.
-> her face.
-> her hand.

› camzillasmom.com

A swarm of undead nuns then attacks, and the two flee inside, wondering what is going on. Anca reveals that she did not leave the convent of her own free will. She was expelled after her friend Leonica told the prioress about her magic. They decide to try to reach the library.

Anca plans to reach the prioress’ study, where they can overlook the whole convent and find a better path to the library. Don’t skip the lootable containers in this building. One of them holds the Recipe for Regenerative Salve, and the two bookshelves near the shrine hold two lore documents.

On the balcony, Coen has to investigate the six convent points to figure out the way to the library.
-> Smoke coming from a chimney.
-> The library building.
-> The other side of the courtyard
-> The courtyard.
-> The chapel.
-> The bell tower.

› camzillasmom.com
› camzillasmom.com

These points reveal three areas: the infirmary, which is your way into the library, plus the optional bell tower and chapel. The infirmary side quest costs two time slots and the chapel costs one. At night you can move around with Shadowstep. During the day you need to sneak or fight.

The bell tower, the small chapel and some houses at the back are locked and need the Monastery Key. The key hangs on the wall inside a small shed at the back of the convent, in the northwest of the area.

The Infirmary has a back door that requires a key to open. The Monastery Key won’t work here. Find the window at the back of the infirmary and interact with it.

Most Precious Thing – Refuse or Give the Relic?

A Brencis soldier asks who Coen is and offers a deal: bring him St. Tyna’s necklace, the Relic of St. Tyna, and he will open the door. This starts the side quest Most Precious Thing. It costs two time slots and must be completed before Echoes of Silenced Bells can end. The relic is on Cornelia’s body in the small chapel (see Where is Cornelia and the Relic?).

Once you have the relic, you can either hand it over or refuse:
-> Give him the relic: he opens the infirmary door, but you lose the relic.
-> Refuse the offer: you keep the relic, fight and loot the soldiers, and take the infirmary key from them. This also raises Ambrus’s anger and Coen’s notoriety.

Refusing is the better outcome. You keep the relic and still get into the infirmary, which leads to the corridor to the library.

The Bell Tower is next to the chapel and can be opened with the Monastery Key.

Head to the top of the bell tower and ring the bell to complete this optional step. Nothing will happen when ringing the bell.

The chapel is just below the bell tower to the right of the balcony. Completing the chapel will consume one time slot.

Enter through the unlocked main double doors.

Inside the chapel, use Focus Mode to find two items:
-> A prayerbook on one of the pews.
-> A rosary on the floor in the centre of the chapel.

Use Compel Soul on the corpse and show them the two items. Use all three potions: compel, prayerbook and the rosary to find out, that this nun protected someone called Cornelia, who had to protect a relic.

In the upper part of the chapel, read the pictures on the walls to learn about St. Tyna, then investigate her corpse. Someone took her teeth and cut pieces out of her.

Where is Cornelia and the Relic?

Cornelia lies in the small chapel next to the shed that holds the Monastery Key. Unlock the door with the key to find her body. Investigate her and loot the Relic of St. Tyna, the piece that was taken from St. Tyna’s corpse in the main chapel. You need this relic for Most Precious Thing.

Once Most Precious Thing is done and the path to the library is open, return to Anca at the shrine and talk to her to continue the quest. Heading to the library from here costs one time slot.

› camzillasmom.com

Follow Anca to the Infirmary door and once inside, to the library. Inside, ignore her if you like lore and loot all the bookshelves for books and notes. There is also the Unholy Fervour Manual to find, which gives you the chance of a refund of an Activation Charge after using a Witchcraft ability. There is also the Endless Effort Manual on this floor, which increases Stamina.

The story will continue once meeting Anca on the ground floor.

› camzillasmom.com

Keep looting after the cutscene if you like books and lore. There is a Second Skin I Manual, which decreases Medium Armour penalties on the ground level plus a Counterattack Manual (Attack after Perfect Block deals more damage) where Anca will wait for you.

› camzillasmom.com

In the lower section of the library, where Anca is waiting for Coen, is a bookshelf you can interact with to push it aside to find a secret room.

› camzillasmom.com
› camzillasmom.com

Keep your eyes open in the catacombs there are a lot of valuable items plus silver. There is also a mysterious door that will cause pain to Coen when he approaches it. This is just the exit door after completing the quest.

› camzillasmom.com
› camzillasmom.com

Cross the first room past the metal door into the next one. They have to fight undead nuns in both rooms.

› camzillasmom.com
› camzillasmom.com

From the second room, head down, through the metal gate to a third room. There are move valuable items to find here. A Recipe for Razor Claw Vial is inside a chest.

› camzillasmom.com
› camzillasmom.com

Inspect the desk in this room. It has four investigation points. Investigate all four of them to find sigils, blood, and devil curses.

› camzillasmom.com
› camzillasmom.com

Go through the next metal door, fight more enemies and cross this room as well. The ceiling is covered with the same red roots you see at Ancient Circles and Haunted Sites, a sign that a boss fight is ahead.

› camzillasmom.com
› camzillasmom.com

At the end of the next corridor is a wooden door. Going through it costs one time slot and leads to Leonica.

How to Beat Leonica

Leonica is protected by a strong shield. She alternates between normal attacks, unblockable attacks and summoning attacks, where undead nuns join the fight against Coen. Dodge her unblockable attacks instead of trying to block them. Fight her to lower her shield. Once the shield is down, a couple of strikes finish her.

› camzillasmom.com

Loot the room before talking to Anca so you won’t miss out on valuable items. There is a Forbidden Sigils Manual (Increases Witchcraft Ability Slots), Don’t forget to loot Leonica. She carries the Catacombs Key, Leonica’s Ring and the Unholy Vitality Manual (Regenerates Health after using Active Abilities).

Give Anca the Hex Notes or Burn them?

Talking to Anca reveals that Leonica was trying to free the nuns with a hex before Anca told Coen to intervene. You now have two choices to make.

Choice 1: Leonica’s Hex Notes

-> Give Anca the Hex notes: costs one time slot. Anca completes the hex and the undead nuns disappear from the convent.
-> Throw the notes into the fire: costs nothing, but the undead nuns keep roaming the convent.

Choice 2: Leaving the Convent

-> Leave with Anca right away: costs two time slots and automatically starts the follow-up quest Between the Words, where the two read the books straight away.
-> Tell her you will join her at the inn: costs nothing for now. The same two time slots are spent later, when you talk to Anca at the inn and the two read the books.

Either way, reading the books costs two time slots. The only difference is when you spend them.

Best choice: give Anca the Hex notes. It costs a single time slot and frees the undead nuns. For leaving, tell her you will join her at the inn if you want to finish looting or do other activities first. Leave with her right away if you just want to carry on with the story.
