Between the Words Quest Start

Between the Words starts right after Echoes of Silenced Bells. If you leave St. Tyna’s Convent together with Anca after retrieving the books, it starts automatically. If you told her you would join her later, it starts when you talk to her at the old inn. The destroyed shrine at Crossroads Inn is just west of the inn, so this is a good moment to restore it as well.

1 – Study the Forbidden Books

Quest Text:
“Together with Anca, I managed to find the forbidden books deep below the haunted convent. Now I have to see if they hold the answers I seek. – We managed to find the forbidden books – and Anca took them back to the old inn she’s staying at. I need to go there and help her comb through these volumes.”

If you chose to go directly with Anca at the end of Echoes of Silenced Bells, this quest step starts automatically. If not, return to the old inn whenever you are ready. Either way, studying the books with Anca consumes two time slots.

2 – Prepare a Warm Drink for Anca (Optional)

Quest Text:
“Anca says she’s thristy – and I could sure use a break from staring at these musty volumes.”

After studying the books, Anca asks Coen to prepare a warm drink. This is optional and costs one time slot. To prepare it, interact with the small pot on the table in the same room, complete the short mixing interaction and take the drink to Anca. Just like at Anca’s Hut in the Prologue, this scene brings Coen and Anca closer and gives you something to do besides following the story.

In the conversation, answer with “It’s my pleasure” instead of “Well – You asked” and the two of them will have a moment. Then continue with “There are better sources of joy than herbal brews.” to have a happier ending of the conversation.

3 – Browse Through the Books with Anca

Quest Text:
“Let’s take a closer look at the books we’ve hauled out of the convent – fingers crossed they were worth the effort.”

With or without the break, interact with the books on the table to browse through them a second time. This consumes one more time slot. The one you want is at the bottom left: Sancti Mihai Historia Vera.

4 – Bring the Intriguing Book to Anca

Quest Text:
“A book with blank pages… It truly is empty – or is something hidden here?”

Coen finds a book with blank pages and takes it to Anca. During the conversation, Coen moves a candle over the page to reveal the hidden text. Anca then suggests finding Albertus, a monk who might know more. Your dialogue choices here do not matter. The conversation ends with Anca asking Coen to come back once she has finished her research (Quest: Where Old Devils Lie), but first he should find Albertus in the Middens (Quest: A Monk and a Saint).

What Happens After Between the Words

Completing Between the Words gives 1000 XP and 1 Skill Point. In total, the quest costs three time slots, or four if you prepare the warm drink for Anca. Anca wants you to find Albertus in the Middens first (A Monk and a Saint), and Where Old Devils Lie continues once she has finished her research.
