Deep Down Walkthrough – The Blood of Dawnwalker

Deep Down is a short side quest in the Prologue of The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it is worth doing early for the Mireleaf Bracers alone. Gavril sends you after Lazar, who went out to the Peat Bogs and never came back, and the trail ends in a flooded cave and a set of underground ruins. This walkthrough covers the tracks, the Forgotten Guardian, and the sarcophagus loot. You can complete it before Withering Away, or instead of waiting with your father during Like Father, Like Son.

Deep Down starts with Gavril, who works the southern fields of Laslea. Talk to him and he will tell you that Lazar went out to cut peat and never came home. The map screenshot below shows exactly where he stands if you want to head straight there.

Mission Text:
“Even through I lived in Laslea my whole life, the area around it sill held many secrets. Some of them buried deeper than others…”

The Peat Bogs are in the swampy ground north-west of Laslea, with a shrine nearby as a landmark. Lazar’s wooden cart is standing abandoned at the edge of the cutting area. Interact with it to pick the trail up.

Mission Text:
“Seems like Lazar ran into some sort of danger. I’ve got to follow his tracks.”

How to Use Focus Mode to Track

There are tracks in the mud around the cart, but they are easy to miss in the low light. Focus Mode brings them out, on PS5 that is L2. This is the first time the game asks you to track anything, and the same technique comes back later, so it is worth getting used to here. The first set of tracks leads to a tree stump with stacked peat.

The tracks continue further along on the wooden walkway. Before you go, there are containers to loot in the nearby abandoned house.

The second set of tracks lead to a bucket with peat and traces of blood. A third set of tracks lead west from the bucket.

Those tracks run into a pack of wolves. Defeat them, then look at the hole in the ground behind them. That is where Lazar went.

Mission Text:
“Lazar’s tracks led me to the cave entrance. He must’ve fallen in there.”

Jump down to find Lazar’s bag and torch. Then, follow the path in the cave and squeeze through a gap in the wall. You will hear Lazar calling out for being in pain. He’s at the end of the gave just behind the gap. A cutscene will start as you approach.

The Wall Paintings and the Woman Who Fought the Vrakhiri

The walls in the sarcophagus room can be investigated. They tell the story of a woman who fought the Vrakhiri using a pair of special bracers. Read them in order before you open the sarcophagus, because the bracers in the story are the ones lying inside it.

Mireleaf Bracers Location

Loot the sarcophagus to receive the Mireleaf Bracers, 27 Armour with the Claw Art Ability, along with a Ruby Diadem, a Golden Brooch and Copper Sulfate. Getting a Claw Art unlock this early in the Prologue is the main reason to run Deep Down before the story pulls you elsewhere.

Forgotten Guardian Fight

The exit leads into the next room, where the Forgotten Guardian is waiting. Defeat it and loot the body for a shortsword with 47 DPS, then clear the containers in the room before you leave. The way out of this room takes you back outside.
