Outcast A New Beginning: Explosive Idea Walkthrough

Explosive Idea is a Sappa Village Quest in Outcast A New Beginning that unlocks once Sappa has its Ventilopes in A Ventilope for Everything. You travel to Desan, earn the villagers’ trust and gather Boogots and Dark Helidium so Brom can make bombs for Sappa.

Location: Sappa

Once you have delivered the Ventilopes in A Ventilope for Everything, Barram has the idea to get bombs that can be dropped on the invaders from a Ventilope. Explosive Idea then unlocks in the Sappa Village Quest menu.

Location: Desan, on a rock pillar in the northeast of the map

Desan is the village in the northeastern part of the map, high up on top of one of the rock pillars. The easiest way to get there is by riding the Galenta from the Emea Village Quests. While you are there, do the Activate Desan’s Daoka quest so you can fast travel to Desan later.

Talk to all Desan villagers with a speech bubble on the minimap: Brom, Makan, Naduul and Draod. Scanning the area makes them easier to spot. Then do one of their quests. Ask Naduul about Recycle and he teaches you a secret phrase to gain the villagers’ trust.

Cleaning up the junkyard for Naduul is a good pick. It earns you the villagers’ trust, and Naduul also gives you one of the missing scrolls for Keep Scrolling.

Location: Lowest level of Desan

Brom is the Rebel Leader of Desan and stands on the lowest level of the village. Talk to him about bombs and he sends you to Draod to learn more about Explosive Powder.

Location: Top of Desan

Draod, the Alchemist and Philosopher, lives at the top of the village. Use the elevator, the staircases or the bouncy plants to get up there. He tells you about Boogot plants and Dark Helidium. Ask him about both items and you get two more sub-quests for Explosive Idea.

Location: South of Emea

Boogots grow south of Emea. You have probably already come across them: they are the plants that explode when you try to pick them up. Follow the marker on the minimap to an area with lots of Boogots.

How to Pick Up Boogots Without Them Exploding

The trick is to crouch and move slowly toward a Boogot plant until the pick-up prompt appears. You only need 5, but with so many in one spot, it makes sense to collect the maximum of 10.

Then return to Desan and deliver the Boogots to the stockpile near Draod’s house at the top of the village. Scan the area to find the stockpile highlighted in yellow.

Location: Northwest of Desan

Make sure the Dark Helidium in Desan sub-quest is active. It highlights an area on the minimap northwest of Desan village. The region is full of nasty creatures, and the Dark Helidium clusters sit close to them.

Scan the area to find the Dark Helidium clusters highlighted in yellow, then melee them to collect the Dark Helidium, just like any other Helidium cluster. Bring 10 Dark Helidium back to the same stockpile in Desan where you delivered the Boogots.

Location: Lowest level of Desan

Go back to Brom and talk to him about trading bombs with Sappa. He starts making the bombs, and you get a notification when they are ready. Return to Desan when it pops up.

Location: Sappa

Head back to Sappa and talk to Barram once more. Cutter tells him about Desan’s offer to trade bombs for fish, and Barram agrees and starts the preparations. This completes Explosive Idea.

With the bombs on their way to Sappa, you can finish A Ventilope for Everything and craft Sappa’s Ventilope Beacon in Prokriana. If you haven’t done it yet, Something Fishy! is the other short Sappa Village Quest.
