Tapping the Grid Mission Overview

Mission type: Miscellaneous Mission in New Atlantis
Quest giver: Louisa Reyez, in The Well opposite the MED BAY
Location: The Well, New Atlantis on Jemison, Alpha Centauri system
Starts from: The Activity “Investigate the Brown-Outs in the Well”
Objectives: Locate and power down four junction boxes, then report back to Louisa
Rewards: XP and credits that scale with your level
Prerequisites: None, you can do this as soon as you reach New Atlantis
Quest chain: Leads directly into Alternating Currents, no combat

Set it as your active mission and use your scanner. A trail of white arrows points to each junction box. If the trail does not appear, put the scanner away and bring it back out.

Only the fourth box is tricky. It sits behind a panel door that needs computer access, and you open it by diverting power with four wall switches. The solution is in step 4 below.

How to Start Tapping the Grid

The mission starts with the Activity: “Investigate the Brown-Outs in the Well.” There are two access points to get to the Well. There is an elevator behind the Jameson Mercantile Shop in the Starport District and there is also an elevator in the NAT station below the MAST. At the Well, look for Louisa Reyez to start the mission.

1 – Junction Box 1: Near UC Surplus and the Security Office

Mission Text:
“I’ve agreed to help Louisa Reyez track a power drain in the Well in New Atlantis. I need to locate a series of power junction boxes and turn them off.”

For the first junction box, walk past the MED BAY shop to the exit passage. On the other side is the SECURITY OFFICE. Here on ground level, just around the corner is the Junction Box. Louisa will talk to you through the Junction Box. Interact with it to activate.

2 – Junction Box 2: Above the Trade Authority

Mission Text:
“I’ve agreed to help Louisa Reyez track a power drain in the Well in New Atlantis. I need to locate a series of power junction boxes and turn them off.”

For the second Junction Box, look for the Trade Authority building. You can go up the stairs behind it.

Follow the path up until you get to the other commercial part of The Well. Turn left here. You should see a red door with a switch that you can use to open it.

Go through and follow the path up to an orange door. Just open the door. The Junction Box is behind it. Activate it to continue.

3 – Junction Box 3: Next to Jake’s Bar

Mission Text:
“I’ve agreed to help Louisa Reyez track a power drain in the Well in New Atlantis. I need to locate a series of power junction boxes and turn them off.”

For the second Junction Box, go back to where you met Louisa the first time.

Follow the path in the upper screenshot until you get to Jake’s bar, where the sign is. Just in the corner from there is the Junction Box. Activate it to continue.

4 – Junction Box 4: The Locked Panel Door and Switch Puzzle

Mission Text:
“I’ve agreed to help Louisa Reyez track a power drain in the Well in New Atlantis. I need to locate a series of power junction boxes and turn them off.”

For the fourth Junction Box, go back to the Trade Authorities building but go up the stairs on the opposite side from before.

Follow the path up, where you can open a silver door and an orange door behind it. That’s where the Junction Box is.

To open the door you need computer access. There are four levers nearby that you can flip to assign power to the door. Here’s how you have to flip the levers: Just activate the first and the second switch from the left. You can ignore the two on the right. The door opens and you can interact with the Junction Box.

5 – Return to Louisa Reyez and Finish Tapping the Grid

Mission Text:
“I’ve finished powering down the junction boxes, and need to return to Louisa Reyez to find out what she’s learned.”

Return to Louisa. She is in the building opposite of MED BAY. Just where we met her the first time. Go inside and talk to her. This will finish the mission. The follow-up “ALTERNATING CURRENTS” starts.
