Starfield Grunt Work Walkthrough – UC Vanguard Mission and Terrormorph Guide

Tags:

Grunt Work is the second UC Vanguard mission in Starfield, and it starts as a simple supply run to Tau Ceti II. It does not stay simple for long, because a Terrormorph has already torn through the settlement and Hadrian needs you to kill it.

Mission type: Faction mission, the second in the UC Vanguard questline
Quest giver: Commander John Tuala, MAST Lobby
Location: New Atlantis Spaceport, then the Tau Gourmet Production Center on Tau Ceti II in the Tau Ceti system
Objectives: Collect the repair materials from Crew Chief Herath, fly to Tau Ceti II, find Hadrian, reset the security connection, tune the livestock tracker to 183.5, power the kill lanes (optional), kill the Terrormorph, bring Hadrian the tissue sample and report back to Commander Tuala
Prerequisites: Complete Supra et Ultra and join the UC Vanguard
Quest chain: Follows Supra et Ultra and unlocks both Delivering Devils and Deep Cover

Hadrian advises against fighting the Terrormorph head on, but you can still take it down with your own weapons. The kill lane turrets are optional and only there to make the fight easier.

Grunt Work is added automatically once you finish Supra et Ultra and swear the oath with Commander Tuala outside MAST. Tuala assigns you a delivery to a new settlement on Tau Ceti II, and your first stop is the spaceport in New Atlantis.

Mission Text:
“Commander Tuala directed me to speak to Crew Chief Herath at the New Atlantis spaceport in order to collect the materials I’ll be delivering to Tau Ceti II.”

Head back to the New Atlantis spaceport. Crew Chief Herath is waiting at the opposite end from your usual landing pad. Talk to him to pick up the repair materials for Tau Ceti II.

Mission Text:
“I’ve spoken to Crew Chief Herath and have acquired Tau Ceti II’s repair materials. I should head there to drop them off as soon as possible.”

Take your ship and fly to Tau Ceti II. On the starmap, the Tau Ceti system sits just west of Alpha Centauri. Land at the Tau Gourmet Production Center on Tau Ceti II, then walk towards the facility.

Mission Text:
“I just heard a very inhuman scream from the factory nearby. I should see what happened.”

As you get close to the facility you hear a loud scream. Keep heading towards the main building, where a woman spots you and contacts you. Go inside and talk to her. Her name is Hadrian, a former UC researcher who came here chasing rumors of an unusual Terrormorph.

Mission Text:
“I met Hadrian, a former UC researcher brought here by the rumor of an anomalous Terrormorph. She asked me to head to the nearby security outpost and reset her connection to it so she can try and get the facility’s defenses back online.”

Hadrian sends you to the security outpost. The computer you need is on the ground floor of one of the buildings ahead. Interact with it and select Reset Security Connection under Security System Connection Status. Then wait while Hadrian analyzes the system.

Mission Text:
“I’ve granted Hadrian remote access to the security hub. She discovered a system I can use to track the Terrormorph around the facility. First, though, I need to tune the system to the right frequency – 183.5.”

The Tau Gourmet: Livestock computer is in the room next to the security computer. Interact with it to turn the tracking system back on. Then open the Tracker Frequency Tuner and select 183.5 :: Targets (1).

Setting the frequency gets the attention of the Terrormorph, and it starts moving around the facility straight away. Be ready for a fight before you confirm.

You have two ways to deal with the Terrormorph in Grunt Work:

Fight it head on. You can kill the Terrormorph with your own weapons and skip the breakers completely. Hadrian recommends against it, so make sure you have enough ammo and healing before you tune the tracker.

Use the kill lanes. The facility has turrets that only need power. There are three breaker pairs spread across the buildings, and both breakers in a pair have to be switched on before its turrets work. Once they are live, draw the Terrormorph into range of the turrets and let them help you bring it down.

Mission Text:
“I tuned the livestock tracking system to 183.5, but it got the attention of the Terrormorph, which is now on the move. Hadrian suggested I try not to fight it, and instead power up the facility’s turrets by throwing the breakers on each building.”

Breaker pair 1: The first breaker is inside the Packaging building, right next door to the Livestock computer. The second breaker of this pair is on the roof of the neighboring Quality Control building.

Mission Text:
“I collected the tissue sample for Hadrian. Now I just need to return it to her back at the main building.”

Once the Terrormorph is dead, loot its body for the tissue sample and carry it back to Hadrian in the main building.

Mission Text:
“I gave Hadrian the tissue sample. She’s asked me to accompany her so we can start getting some answers on this thing.”

Follow Hadrian to the microscope and let her analyze the sample. She wants it taken to Percival Walker on Mars, but that needs your commander’s approval first.

Mission Text:
“Hadrian’s asked that I get permission from my commander to take this tissue sample to Percival Walker on Mars. I need to return to Commander Tuala in New Atlantis and see what he says.”

Fly back to New Atlantis and talk to Commander Tuala at MAST. That completes Grunt Work.

Two follow-up missions are added at the same time: Delivering Devils, where the tissue sample goes to Percival Walker, and Deep Cover.
