All collectibles show up on your map once you reach Area Bond Level 3 in Yoshida-Shinden. You raise the Area Bond by restoring Public Order, raising Veiled Edge Banners and finding collectibles. Nothing in Yoshida-Shinden is missable, so you can also come back after the story.
Yoshida-Shinden Veiled Edge Banners
Veiled Edge Banners are save and fast travel points. Yoshida-Shinden has four: two you raise yourself and two that are raised automatically when you restore a Public Order.
1. Eastern Settlement Veiled Edge Banner
Location: Small settlement in the east of Yoshida-Shinden
Raise the banner in the small settlement in the east of the region. The Horseback Archery course is here too, and the Shrine and the Withered Old Tree are just west of it.
2. Central Outpost Veiled Edge Banner
Location: Outpost with a tower in the center of Yoshida-Shinden
This banner is raised automatically as soon as you restore the Public Order at the central outpost. After that you can use it for fast travel.
3. Western Border Veiled Edge Banner
Location: Camp on the western border of Yoshida-Shinden, next to Maita
Restore the Public Order at the western camp and this banner is raised automatically.
4. Shooting Range Veiled Edge Banner
Location: Right in front of the Shooting Range in the southwest
Raise the banner in front of the Shooting Range in the southwest corner of the map. While you are here, play Firearm Training for a Foreign Book.
Yoshida-Shinden Public Order Events
Public Order events are areas occupied by enemies. Defeat all of them to restore order, raise your Area Bond and unlock the Veiled Edge Banner there. You can spot them from far away by the smoke rising above them.
1. Central Outpost Public Order
Location: Outpost with a central tower in the heart of Yoshida-Shinden
You face five enemies here, including the Fugitive Punch-Drunk Kanta. Defeat them all and the Central Outpost banner is raised automatically.
2. Western Camp Public Order
Location: Camp on the western border of Yoshida-Shinden, next to Maita
Six enemies hold this camp, two of them formidable. One of them is the Fugitive Steaming Mad Tojiro at the house west of the camp. Clear the camp and the Western Border banner is raised automatically.
Yoshida-Shinden Fugitives – Punch-Drunk Kanta and Steaming Mad Tojiro
Fugitives are bounty targets you have to find and defeat. You need 50 of the 91 Fugitives in the game for the Keeper of the Peace trophy. Both Yoshida-Shinden Fugitives are part of a Public Order, so you defeat them while you restore order.
1. Punch-Drunk Kanta
Location: Central Outpost Public Order
Punch-Drunk Kanta sits on the ground near the buildings of the central outpost. Defeat him together with the other enemies there.
2. Steaming Mad Tojiro
Location: House west of the western camp, on the Maita border
Steaming Mad Tojiro belongs to the western Public Order. You find him at the house west of the camp.
Yoshida-Shinden Shrine
Location: In front of the Withered Old Tree, west of the Eastern Settlement
The only Shrine in Yoshida-Shinden stands in front of the Withered Old Tree, just west of the Eastern Settlement banner. Take the Withered Old Tree photo while you are here, since the photo shows this shrine.
Yoshida-Shinden Cat Locations
Cats are real cats you need to pet, not statues. Listen for meowing, which means one is close. Calico cats run off if you are noisy, so sneak up on them. You need all 100 cats in the game for the Cats Over All trophy, and you can trade them for rewards at the cat vendor in Yokohama.
1. Northeastern Farm Cat
Location: Small farm on the northeastern edge, near Miyozaki and Noge
The cat hides in the tall grass at a small farm on the northeastern edge of the map, near the borders of Miyozaki and Noge.
2. Eastern Settlement Calico Cat
Location: House north of the Eastern Settlement banner
A Calico Cat sits at a house north of the Eastern Settlement banner. Crouch and sneak up slowly. If it runs off, wait for it to come back.
3. Six Lanterns Temple Cat
Location: On the temple-style building at the Six Lanterns photo spot
The last cat sits on top of the temple-style building at the Six Lanterns photo spot, just north of the Shooting Range banner. Use the rope behind the building to climb up and pet it.
Yoshida-Shinden Treasure Chests – Demon God’s Spear and Scroll of Dexterity
Yoshida-Shinden has two Treasure Chests, and neither is easy to get into. One needs the glider, the other needs the Fire Pipe.
1. How to Reach the Storehouse Chest – Demon God’s Spear
Location: White two-story storehouse in the eastern village, near Motomachi
The chest is on the top floor of a white, two-story storehouse in the eastern village near the border with Motomachi. The only way in is the open window on the top floor, so you need the glider. Climb onto a nearby rooftop, glide over to the wooden scaffolding as shown in the screenshot, then glide through the open window. Open the chest to get the Demon God’s Spear.
2. How to Open the Barricaded Chest – Scroll of Dexterity
Location: Locked and barricaded house slightly west of the Central Outpost banner
This chest is inside a locked and barricaded house slightly west of the Central Outpost banner. Burn through the barricade with the Fire Pipe sub-weapon. You get it from Igashichi Iizuka during the Bond Mission A Lucky Find Put to Use. Open the chest inside to get the Scroll of Dexterity.
Yoshida-Shinden Horseback Archery
Horseback Archery is a mini-game where you hit targets while riding your horse as fast as you can.
Location: Eastern Settlement
The course starts at the Eastern Settlement. It has a difficulty of 1 out of 5, so it is a good one to start with. Score 9000 points or more for the top rank. The screenshot shows all ranks and rewards.
Yoshida-Shinden Firearm Training
Firearm Training is a mini-game where you hit targets with your rifle. There is another one in Hiranuma-Shinden.
Location: Shooting Range in the southwest of Yoshida-Shinden
The range is right next to the Shooting Range banner. It has a difficulty of 1 out of 5. Score 7000 points or more for the top rank, and line up several targets in one shot for the Multiple Target Bonus. The rewards include a Foreign Book. The screenshot shows all ranks and rewards.
Yoshida-Shinden Photography Spots
Keep following the main mission Follow Your Blade Twin until you get a camera. Then you can take photographs. You need all 44 photographs in the game for the Sightseer trophy.
1. Withered Old Tree
“Take a photograph of the shrine in front of the withered old tree.”
The Withered Old Tree stands just west of the Eastern Settlement banner, with the Shrine right in front of it. Point the camera at the shrine and take the photo when the red circle is in the center.
2. The Six Lanterns
“Take a photograph of all six lanterns.”
The Six Lanterns line the staircase up to the temple-style building in the west of Yoshida-Shinden, just northeast of the Shooting Range. There are three on each side of the stairs, so stand back far enough to get all six in the shot. The third cat sits on the roof of this building.
Yoshida-Shinden is also where you save the woman on the road and rescue Risa at the mansion in the A Last Request grassroots mission.
