Rise of the Ronin Kanagawa Map
The in-game map with all 14 Kanagawa collectibles marked. Click the map to open it in full size.
All collectibles show up on your map once you reach Area Bond Level 3 in Kanagawa. You raise the Area Bond by restoring Public Order, raising Veiled Edge Banners and finding collectibles. Nothing in Kanagawa is missable, so you can also come back after the story.
Kanagawa Veiled Edge Banners
Veiled Edge Banners are save and fast travel points. Raising one also restores your health and refills your medicine and sub-weapons, but defeated enemies may return. Kanagawa has two, one at each end of the region.
1. Sodegaura Border Veiled Edge Banner
Location: By the road at the southern border to Sodegaura
Raise this banner by the roadside, next to a few small stone statues. Most Kanagawa collectibles are close to it, so it is the best starting point.
2. Northern Border Veiled Edge Banner
Location: Northern edge of the Kanagawa region, at the top of the Yokohama map
The second banner sits at the very top of the Yokohama map. Use it for the Northern Waterfall Cat and the two northern Treasure Chests.
Kanagawa Public Order – Restore Order at the Estate
Public Order events are areas occupied by enemies, shown as a red dot on the map. Defeat all of them to restore order and raise your Area Bond.
Location: Large hillside estate just north of the Sodegaura Border Veiled Edge Banner
This Public Order is level 13. Twelve enemies hold the estate, including four formidable foes, and one of them is the Fugitive Saizo Izuna. Defeat them all to restore order.
Saizo Izuna carries the Rusty Key for the locked storehouse on the estate grounds. Defeat him and open it for the first Treasure Chest.
Extra Chest Outside the Estate
A white storehouse outside the estate is guarded by a formidable enemy. It holds a small chest, which is not one of the 14 collectibles but worth grabbing while you are here.
Kanagawa Fugitives – Sea Spectre Katsumi and Saizo Izuna
Fugitives are bounty targets you have to find and defeat. You need 50 of the 91 Fugitives in the game for the Keeper of the Peace trophy.
1. Sea Spectre Katsumi – Lv. 9
Location: Beach below the cliffs, southeast of the Sodegaura Border Veiled Edge Banner
True to his name, Sea Spectre Katsumi waits by the sea. Climb down to the beach below the cliffs and find him in front of a small cave. He wears a mask and fights with two claws. The Kanagawa Shrine is inside the same cave.
2. Saizo Izuna – Lv. 13
Location: Main building of the Public Order estate, at the top of the hillside grounds
Saizo Izuna is the strongest of the bandits who took over the estate. He waits in the main building with one more bandit. Defeat him to get the Rusty Key for the estate storehouse chest.
Kanagawa Landmarks – Kanagawa Post, Hongakuji Temple and Kanagawa Battery
Landmarks are important places you only have to visit. Once you are close enough, they are added to your collection, and you can read their history in the Areas section of the Encyclopaedia.
1. Kanagawa Post
Location: Settlement east of the Sodegaura Border Veiled Edge Banner
Follow the road east from the southern banner until you reach the Kanagawa Post settlement.
Landmark Encyclopaedia Entry:
“A post in Yokohama, Kanagawa, and the third of the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido Road. Most people stopping for the night are either heading to Edo from the Miura peninsula or making a pilgrimage to Mount Fuji or other nearby mountains.”
2. Hongakuji Temple
Location: Center of the Kanagawa region, west of the main road
Follow the main road into the heart of Kanagawa and turn west towards the temple entrance.
Landmark Encyclopaedia Entry:
“Soto-Buddhist temple in Yokohama, Kanagawa. The site of the US Consulate, an institution tasked with protecting the rights of American nationals living abroad in Japan, its main gate was once painted by the consular corps. During the Namamugi Incident, it famously harbored British citizens who had been wounded by the blades of Satsuma retainers.”
3. Kanagawa Battery
Location: Northeast of the region, right by the sea
Look for a big round structure on the coast in the northeast. That is the Kanagawa Battery, a fortress also known as the Bat Battery.
Landmark Encyclopaedia Entry:
“Stronghold in Yokohama, Kanagawa. Placed opposite the port as a warning to the Western powers, it was designed by Kaishu Katsu. A five-point fortress built using Western masonry techniques, its bat-like shape has earned it the nickname ‘Bat Battery’.”
Where to Find the Kanagawa Shrine
Location: Seaside cave at water level, south of the Sodegaura Border Veiled Edge Banner
Head south from the southern banner and climb down to the beach below the cliffs. The shrine is inside a small cave right at the water, guarded by the Fugitive Sea Spectre Katsumi. Pray at the shrine to get a skill point.
Kanagawa Cat Locations
Cats are real cats you need to pet, not statues. Listen for meowing, which means one is close. Calico cats run off if you are noisy, so sneak up on them. You need all 100 cats in the game for the Cats Over All trophy, and you can trade them for rewards at the cat vendor in Yokohama.
1. Southern Tower Cat
Location: Top of the tower in front of the southern Kanagawa village gate
This cat sits at the very top of the tower in front of the southern village entrance gate. The tower has a grapple point on its lower roof, but you cannot reach it from the ground.
How to Reach the Tower Cat
Climb the house directly across the road from the tower and go up to its highest point. From there, glide towards the tower and grapple onto the lower roof. Climb the ladder on the roof to reach the cat at the top.
2. Northern Waterfall Cat
Location: By the waterfall at the northern border, near the Northern Border Veiled Edge Banner
The second cat sits right by the waterfall at the northern border of the region.
Kanagawa Treasure Chest Locations
Treasure Chests are big chests with gear or items inside. Kanagawa has three: one needs a key, one is in a ruined building and one is in a locked storehouse you enter through a window.
1. Estate Storehouse Treasure Chest – Rusty Key
Location: Locked storehouse next to the main building of the Public Order estate
A locked storehouse always means a Treasure Chest in Rise of the Ronin. This one needs the Rusty Key, which you get from the Fugitive Saizo Izuna in the main building. Defeat him, unlock the storehouse and open the chest for the Old Warrior’s Chest Armor.
2. Northern Building Treasure Chest
Location: Partly destroyed building south of the Northern Border Veiled Edge Banner
Enter the half-ruined building through the front door, or crouch through the breach in the wall shown below. The chest is in the first room.
3. Northern Storehouse Treasure Chest
Location: Locked storehouse east of the Northern Border Veiled Edge Banner
This storehouse door is locked and there is no key. Instead, look for the open window on its top floor.
How to Get Into the Northern Storehouse
Climb onto the roofs of the buildings next to the storehouse and jump across to the open window, as shown in the screenshot. Drop inside and open the Treasure Chest.
