Crimson Desert: Turning Tides Questline Walkthrough

Turning Tides is the third questline in Chapter 6: Cracks in the Shield in Crimson Desert, following on from Below the Banners. It consists of four quests – Fire Support, In Ashes, Hidden Fangs, and Reclamation – and tasks you with liberating all civilian locations on the Calphade battlefield.

The questline introduces the cannon mechanic and Whistling Arrows for artillery support. This guide covers all four quests in order, with map locations and practical tips for each objective.

Fire Support is the first of four quests in the Turning Tides Questline of Chapter 6: Cracks in the Shield. In Turning Tides, you will now liberate all the civilian locations on the battlefield.

Description:
“Fierce enemy resistance is stalling your advance. Find a way to call in fire support from your ally.”

Speak with the Soldier at the Gunsite

The Gunsite is in the northwest of the battlefield, just outside the orange battle lines. There is an Abyss Nexus fast-travel platform just above the Northern Guard Post and below the gunsite. Approach and talk to the soldier at the gunsite. He’s the orange dot on the minimap.

You will then help him fix the cannon by pressing a couple of buttons on your controller.

Destroy the Black Bears’ Watchtowers

Talk to the soldier by the cannon next. Destroying the watchtowers is next. Operate the nearby cannon. Aim and fire. Four watchtowers have to be destroyed. I did this at night, and it was not very clear where to aim. Look into the sky. You will see four pillars of smoke. They’re coming from the watchtowers. Follow the smoke down to the watchtower.

They are the nearby wooden towers.

Reward:
10x Whistling Arrow

Whistling Arrows for Artillery Support

You will now receive 10 Whistling Arrows.

Use the Whitsling Arrow near artillery batteries to request fire support from your allies. Press the left button to navigate to the arrow tab to equip the Whistling Arrow.

When the Whistling Arrow is fired within the support range shown on the map, an artillery strike will hit the exact spot where the arrow lands. Use this to destroy enemy facilities or eliminate large swathes of enemies to gain the upper hand in battle.

The Whistling Arrow can be acquired from the supply depot of each outpost.

Hint:
Towers can still be destroyed with a Charged Shot. If you have this ability, you don’t need artillery ;-).

Description:
“The Black Bears have taken several soldiers prisoner following a sudden ambush. For the sake of the men worried about their comrades, infiltrate enemy lines and rescue the captives.”

Speak with the Soldier of the Base in the Outskirts

There is a soldier near the Northern Guard Post below the gunsite that you need to talk to now.

Infiltrate the Black Bears’ Base

Next, you need to infiltrate the Black Bears’ Base in the northeast to find the captured soldiers. There is a big bear with a hammer at the base. Defeat him to capture the base and free the soldiers in a cutscene.

Description:
“You’ve discovered why the Black Bears are so emboldened. Their devastating war machines were behind the ruthless shelling that leveled their own camp. Seek out the weapons and reduce them to scraps.”

Destroy 5x Black Bears’ Battle Weapons

Look for five round turtle-shaped tanks, the Black Bear Siege Engine, in the fields around the battlefield and use the Whistling Arrows to destroy them. If you’re all out, visit the northern guard post for a refill at the flag symbol on the minimap. The flags need time to refill. Use other guard posts if you must refill.

To find the tanks, ride your horse through the area and quickly shoot a whistling arrow. To find the tanks, work your way up from the south. They are mainly in the fields.

About the Black Bear Siege Engine:
“A massive weapon crafted by the Black Bears to dominate the battlefield. Equipped with thick steel armor and overwhelming firepower, it breaks through all obstacles at the front line. Its existence alone proves that there is a far more capable sponsor backing the Black Bears, since it is highly unlikely that the pack of savages wield the technological proficiency to develop such a weapon.”

After destroying the five tanks, all you have to do is fight until the occupation level is down to zero. This will liberate all civilian locations and complete the Turning Tides Questline.
