Al-Ghul Investigation Overview

Target: Al-Ghul, whose true identity is Mas’ood Al-Ya’qoob, the first Order member you can assassinate
How it starts: After you free Ali in the Jailbreak mission of the Ali ibn Muhammad investigation
Leads: The Watermill, then Al-Ghul himself
Final mission: First Order, where you lure Al-Ghul out of the Caravanserai
Key characters: Roshan, Ali ibn Muhammad and Al-Ghul
Unlocks: The Nehal investigation, followed by Ra’s al-Af’a

Investigation Text:
“A presumed Order member reigns over Baghdad’s prisons, forcing enemies of the Caliphate to work their dig sites.”

1 – Watermill – Meet Roshan and the Rebels

Case Text:
“I told Ali to regroup with Roshan and the Rebels.”

After freeing Ali from the Damascus Gate Prison, meet Roshan and the rebels at the Watermill in the Wilderness district, north of Baghdad. Track the case to get the mission marker on your map.

At the Watermill, follow the noise up to the party inside the Watermill, where Ali is celebrating with his rebels. There is also a fast travel point at the same location.

After the cutscene, you can talk to Roshan right away or choose to reflect first. Tip: Use the break to synchronize with the nearby tower and unlock the fast travel point. Talking to Roshan closes this lead and reveals Al-Ghul as your target on the investigation board.

2 – First Order – How to Lure Al-Ghul Out

Case Text:
“Al-Ghul’s true identity is Mas’ood Al-Ya’qoob.”

The final mission First Order starts. Follow Roshan through the Watermill area to the mounts, then ride with her to Al-Ghul’s compound, the Caravanserai. Al-Ghul is hiding inside, so your goal is to lure him out into the open.

Scout the Caravanserai with Enkidu

Send your eagle Enkidu up for a look with Eagle Vision. There are two ways to lure Al-Ghul out:
Option 1: Return the confiscated cargo to the Caravan Leader at the front gate
Option 2: Get the deed that keeps the migrant workers enslaved
Be aware that the whole courtyard is a restricted area.

Option 1 – Return the Caravan Leader’s Cargo

Talk to the Caravan Leader at the front gates of the Caravanserai. Al-Ghul’s men have confiscated his cargo, and he can’t leave without it. Return it to him and his departure causes enough turmoil to lure Al-Ghul out. With Eagle Vision, the cargo shows up with the hood symbol in the far left corner on the ground floor.

Use the Secret Entrance

For both options, the easiest way into the courtyard is the Secret Entrance. It is where the stream touches the wall of the building. Dive through and, when you come out on the other side, assassinate the single guard leaning on the rail.

Option 2 – Get the Deed for the Migrant Workers

Right after the Secret Entrance, use Assassin’s Focus and look at the wall to your left. Behind it, a man is asking for help. He is one of many migrant workers forced to work for a slaver who holds their deed. Talking to him opens the deed opportunity, marked with the paper symbol on your map and HUD.

The slaver wants 15000 coins for the deed. If you decline, you get the option to steal the deed instead, marked with the hand symbol, and the slaver walks off. Tip: Don’t follow him blindly through the courtyard. Wait until he is inside the small house in the center of the courtyard. The nearby guards can’t see you there, and if they do, there is a bench to blend in. Walk inside and steal the deed.

3 – Assassinate Al-Ghul (Mas’ood Al-Ya’qoob)

Once you have the deed or the Caravan Leader’s cargo, Al-Ghul comes out to see what’s going on. His location is now marked with an orange skull icon on the map and in the world. Climb to the top of the building, go to the skull marker and use your Hidden Blade to assassinate Al-Ghul.

4 – What Happens After Killing Al-Ghul

With Al-Ghul dead, you have fulfilled your first assassin contract and the Al-Ghul investigation is complete. Basim spots Nehal in the crowd, which starts the follow-up Nehal investigation. Shortly after, Ra’s al-Af’a, the Head of the Order, appears on the investigation board, connected to Al-Ghul.
