Rise of the Ronin Maita Map
The in-game map with all 16 Maita collectibles marked. Click the map to open it in full size.
All collectibles show up on your map once you reach Area Bond Level 3 in Maita. You raise the Area Bond by restoring Public Order, raising Veiled Edge Banners and finding collectibles. Nothing in Maita is missable, so you can also come back after the story.
Maita Veiled Edge Banners
Veiled Edge Banners are save and fast travel points. Maita has three: two you raise yourself and one that is raised automatically when you restore the Public Order in the central village.
1. Maita Castle Veiled Edge Banner
Location: High up inside Maita Castle
You reach this banner during the main story mission Follow Your Blade Twin. It sits high up within the castle grounds and is the best fast travel point for the Maita Castle Ruins, the castle cat and the Traditional Sandals chest.
2. Central Village Veiled Edge Banner
Location: Center of the central village
The central village holds the biggest Public Order in Maita. Defeat the bandits and the Fugitive Mutsurokuro the Beast Master and the banner is raised automatically. The Shinobi Cowl chest is in the same village.
3. Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine Veiled Edge Banner
Location: On the mountain in the east of Maita
From the central village, follow the southern route to a broken bridge. Cross it with the glider or take the other path to reach the foot of the mountain with the Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine on top. Follow the small, winding path up to the far side of the broken bridge and climb up to the banner. This also unlocks the Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine Landmark.
Maita Public Order Events
Public Order events are areas occupied by enemies. Defeat all of them to restore order and raise your Area Bond. Look for columns of smoke to spot them from afar.
1. Northeast Camp Public Order
Location: Camp in the northeast of Maita, near the Yoshida-Shinden and Nakamura borders
A small bandit camp with four bandits, one of them a strong enemy. Follow the pillar of smoke to find it.
2. Central Village Public Order
Location: The village in the center of Maita
This is the biggest Public Order in Maita. Bandits have taken over the village, and many of the enemies are beasts led by the Fugitive Mutsurokuro the Beast Master. Clearing the village raises the Central Village Veiled Edge Banner.
Maita Fugitive – Mutsurokuro the Beast Master
Fugitives are bounty targets you have to find and defeat. You need 50 of the 91 Fugitives in the game for the Keeper of the Peace trophy.
Location: Main building of the central village
Mutsurokuro the Beast Master is the only Fugitive in Maita. He hides in the biggest building of the central village, guarding the Shinobi Cowl chest. You have to defeat him to complete the Public Order.
Maita Landmarks – Maita Castle Ruins and Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine
Landmarks are important places you only have to visit. Maita has two.
1. Maita Castle Ruins
Location: Below Maita Castle in the west of Maita
During the main story mission Follow Your Blade Twin, you are sent to the Maita Castle Ruins to find blueprints. Reaching the ruins collects the Landmark. One of the Maita cats hides here too.
2. Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine
Location: On the mountain in the east of Maita
This Landmark is marked as visited automatically when you climb up to the Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine Veiled Edge Banner. The Maita Shrine, a Treasure Chest, a cat and the Photography spot are all around here, so grab them in one trip.
How to Get to the Maita Shrine
Location: Mountain summit across the canyon from Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine
You need the glider for this one. Start at the Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine Veiled Edge Banner and use the grapple point on the shrine building to get onto its roof. Glide across the canyon and grapple onto the platform on the other side.
Follow the path up until you see another grapple point above you. Swing from grapple point to grapple point until you reach the summit with the shrine.
Maita Cat Locations
Cats are real cats you need to pet, not statues. Listen for meowing, which means one is close. Calico cats run off if you are noisy, so sneak up on them. You need all 100 cats in the game for the Cats Over All trophy, and you can trade them for rewards at the cat vendor in Yokohama.
1. Broken Bridge Cat
Location: End of the broken bridge at Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine
While you are at the Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine, check the broken bridge. The cat is stranded at the end of it, close to the Veiled Edge Banner.
2. Maita Castle Ruins Cat
Location: Behind the northwest wall of the Maita Castle Ruins
Climb down to the castle ruins from the Maita Castle Veiled Edge Banner. Between the campfires and broken buildings, look behind the castle wall in the northwest to find the cat.
3. Waterfall Calico Cat
Location: Waterfall at the southwestern tip of Maita
A shy calico cat lies by the waterfall in the far southwest corner of the map. Crouch and move slowly until you are close enough to pet it, or it runs off.
Maita Treasure Chests – Shinobi Cowl, Scroll of Strength and Traditional Sandals
1. Central Village Chest – Shinobi Cowl
Location: Main building of the central village
The chest is in the same room as the Fugitive Mutsurokuro the Beast Master, inside the Central Village Public Order area. Defeat him to reach the chest and get the Shinobi Cowl.
2. Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine Chest – Scroll of Strength
Location: Wooden platform on a hill across the canyon from the Maita Shrine
Start at the Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine Veiled Edge Banner and follow the route up to the Maita Shrine. From the shrine, look for a platform with a white flag, then look across the canyon for another wooden platform. That is where the chest is.
Before you glide over, spot the kite in the air. It marks a grapple point for a safe crossing. Open the chest for the Scroll of Strength.
3. Maita Castle Chest – Traditional Sandals
Location: Building across the wooden bridge near Maita Castle
Cross the wooden bridge near the Maita Castle Veiled Edge Banner to find a building with the chest inside. Bandits guard it, so defeat them first, then open the chest for the Traditional Sandals.
Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine Photo – Maita Photography
The camera unlocks as you follow the main story mission Follow Your Blade Twin. Photography spots count toward the Sightseer trophy.
Main Hall of Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine
“Take a photograph of the main hall of Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine.”
Location: Outside the main hall of Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine
The shrine is on the mountain in the east of Maita. The route is in the Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine Veiled Edge Banner entry. There may be bandits inside on your first visit, but you can take the photo from outside, as in the screenshot below.
