The Empty Nest Mission Overview

Mission type: Main mission, part of the Constellation questline
How it starts: Talk to Sam Coe at the Lodge after finishing The Old Neighborhood
Location: Akila City and the Empty Nest on Akila, Cheyenne System
Objectives: Find Solomon’s maps and bring the Artifact from the Empty Nest back to the Lodge
Companions: Sam Coe, with his daughter Cora along as a passenger
Required mission: You have to finish Job Gone Wrong before you can enter the GalBank Vault

How to Start The Empty Nest in Starfield

The Empty Nest is one of three Constellation missions you get after finishing The Old Neighborhood. Sarah Morgan asks you to join an expedition led by Sam Coe, another Constellation member, into Freestar Collective space.

This is also the mission where you meet Sam Coe for the first time.

1 – Talk to Sam Coe

Mission Text:
“Sarah Morgan wants me to join an expedition headed up by Sam Coe, another Constellation member. We’ll be going to Freestar Collective space.”

Sam Coe is at the Lodge, standing in the outside garden on the ground floor.

2 – Travel to Akila City in the Cheyenne System

Mission Text:
“Sam Coe and his daughter Cora will be coming with me to Akila City. They’ll be passengers on my ship until we get there.”

Akila City is on the planet Akila in the Cheyenne System, northeast of Alpha Centauri on the star map. Sam and his daughter Cora travel with you as passengers on your ship.

3 – Talk to Sam

After you land, Sam is standing at the Akila City entrance and waiting to talk to you.

4 – Go to the GalBank Vault

Mission Text:
“Sam Coe will be coming with me until we find the Artifact on Akila. First stop is GalBank to find his ancestor Solomon’s maps.”

Head to GalBank. It is near the city entrance and hard to miss. A guard at the city gate tells you about an ongoing robbery at GalBank, which starts the Freestar Collective mission Job Gone Wrong.

You have to finish Job Gone Wrong before you can go to the GalBank Vault.

5 – Search for Solomon’s Maps in the GalBank Vault

Mission Text:
“The robbery at GalBank has been dealt with. Sam and I should be able to get Solomon’s maps now.”

Sam gives you a copy of the key so you can search the deposit boxes. Go through them until you find the Note to Sam, then talk to Sam.

6 – Talk to Jacob Coe at the Coe Estate

Mission Text:
“Solomon’s maps weren’t in GalBank. Someone named Jacob got to them first, and he’s waiting for Sam to come talk to him at the Coe Estate.”

Jacob Coe is Sam’s dad, and he has the maps. Go to the Coe Estate and talk to him, then talk to Sam afterwards.

7 – How to Get Solomon’s Maps from Jacob Coe

Mission Text:
“We need to get Solomon’s Maps from Jacob Coe. I could try talking to him, or I could set up a distraction with Sam, or maybe we can ask Cora for help.”

Jacob won’t simply hand over Solomon’s maps, but there are three different ways to get them.

All Three Ways to Get the Maps

Ask Cora for help: This is the easiest option, but Sam doesn’t like it.

Persuade Jacob: If you pass the persuasion, Jacob gives you the key to the room where the maps are, and you can just pick them up.

Let Sam distract Jacob: Sam keeps his dad busy while you steal the maps.

Whichever way you choose, talk to Sam once you have the maps.

8 – Travel to the Empty Nest and Get the Artifact

Mission Text:
“Solomon’s maps are pointing us to a cave inside of Shaw Gang territory, on the frontier of Akila.”

Leave Akila City and walk towards the mission marker to reach the Empty Nest. As soon as you arrive, you run into a firefight between the Shaw Gang and the local wildlife.

Defeat the hostiles and enter the nearby cave through the yellow door.

How to Open the Locked Gate in the Cave

The Shaw Gang are inside the cave too. Partway through, you reach a locked gate. You can either loot the key from one of the gang members or pick up the key in the camp just before the gate.

The Artifact is at the bottom of the cave. Once you have it, leave the cave. More Shaw Gang members are waiting for you outside, so deal with them to move on.

9 – Return to the Lodge

Mission Text:
“We have the Artifact. Time to get back to the Lodge.”

Travel back to the Lodge and add the Artifact to the collection. This completes The Empty Nest.
