Sacred Covenant is the Blood Mass quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it is short on tasks but heavy on consequence. Knyaz Brencis and his retinue are at the church overseeing the tithes, and the Vrakhiri have no patience for the weak, which is why the family is worried about Coen’s mother. You can talk to the villagers first or head straight to the pew, but what happens during the Mass was decided earlier, by how carefully you followed Anca’s recipe.

Mission Text:
“Blood Mass is tonight – and Knyaz Brencis and his retinue will be at the church to oversee the collection of tithes. We’re worried about Mum. Vrakhiri don’t look kindly on the weak.”
Talking to the villagers at the mass is optional, but a good way to learn about the other people in the village. The only deeper conversation is with Anca, one row behind Coen’s parents.
2 – Sit in the Pew Next to Pieter and Esme
Mission Text:
“The Mass begins soon, I should take a seat.”
As soon as you sit in the pew, the Mass and cutscene starts.
Does Esme Survive Blood Mass?
What happens at the Mass was decided back in Withering Away, when you brewed the herbs for Coen’s mother.
Correct outcome
You brewed the herbs correctly:
Esme survives the Mass and returns home with the family.
Wrong outcome
You brewed the herbs the wrong way:
Esme is killed during the Mass and does not come home.
Either way the story moves on the same path, and the group still heads to the mines in the follow-up quest, Bad Blood.
