The Barrens Collectibles – Alfheim, God of War Ragnarok

The Barrens Nornir Chest

The Nornir Chest is north of the Barrens. There is a Tower on top of a Rock covered in Tendrils. Sou you have to get rid of them first by hitting them when they’re in a line. Like on the screenshot below.

Light the torches of the Runes with your blades.

“C” Rune

The “C” Rune is next to the Nornir Chest at the base of the tower.

“R” Rune

The “R” Rune is on top of the tower above the Nornir Chest. Thankfully, there is an oil flask! Just hit the flask to light up the rune.

“n” Rune

The “n” Rune is at the back towards the right of the Nornir Chest. Shoot pink arrows to light it up.

Now you just have to be quick. Hit the three runes with your axe. “n” first, then “C” and then the “R” Rune

The Barrens Legendary Chests

1 – Inside the Skeleton of a Beast

Like in the story, cross the big bridge with the gap. Just after your first deflecting pink crystal puzzle, where you have to open a wooden gate, there is a ledge grapple down. Go down there. To the left, behind a barrier that you can destroy with melee, is the Legendary Chest next to the Artifact.

2 – Building in the North of the Barrens

In the north of the Barrens is a building with elves that attack you when you get there. Look for the tree just outside of this building. Odin’s Raven is sitting on top, and the Legendary Chest is at its base.

3 – Cave in the South

South of the map is a vertical gap in a wall where you can squeeze into a cave. There are Tendrils blocking the way to a Legendary Chest and an Artifact is lying on the floor.

The Tendril puzzle is tricky. There is a deflecting purple crystal that takes care of two Tendrils but not the third one. You just have to stand in the correct position. Throw the axe to the crystal and then recall the axe. The recall has to take care of the third Tendril!

The Barrens Lore

1 – Kvasir’s Poems – Celestial Construct

Enter the skeleton of a beast in the east of the Barrens. At the very back, climb up the wall and you will see this Artifact on the floor next to a Legendary Chest.

2 – Tributes to Freyr – Horn

In the same location but at the other side of the building is a Lore Marker with an Artifact next to it.

3 – Tributes to Freyr – Harp

South of the map is a vertical gap in a wall where you can squeeze into a cave. There are Tendrils blocking the way to a Legendary Chest but the Artifact is accessible, on the floor.

The Barrens Artifacts

1 – Tributes to Freyr – Dream Charm

In the Quest “Groa’s Secret” you come across a Nornir Chest on the way to Groa’s Shrine. Just next to it, shining in purple is the TRIBUTES TO FREYR – DREAM CHARM Artifact.

2 – Kvasir’s Poems – Afterlife Abandonment

From the Mystic Gate at The Strond, follow the path up (same path as you took with Atreus and Tyr in the story). When you exit the cave, you are at the viewpoint, where they all stopped. Look down at this viewpoint. You will see the Lore Marker down below.

The Barrens Buried Treasure

To find the Treasure you have to find the LORE – TREASURE MAP – VULTURE’S GOLD at The Canyons first.

Then head to the east of THE BARRENS. The skeletal head of the beast there is a big easy hint, no? Climb up and turn to the teeth. There you see a yellow shimmer in the sand. Get closer and pick it up.

The Barrens Odin’s Ravens

1 – Building in the North

In the north of the Barrens is a building with elves that attack you when you get there. Look for the tree just outside of this building. The Raven is sitting on top of it. Shoot it with the spear.

2 – Beast Skeleton

The second of Odin’s Ravens is sitting in the right eye of the skeleton of the beast.

The Barrens Draugr Hole

The Draugr Hole is on top of a little flat hill in the west of The Barrens. Defeat the Draugr to close the hole.

The Barrens Berserker Gravestone

Defeat the Berserker Gravestone in the south east of the map.

The Barrens Remnants of Asgard

Fight and defeat the Remnants of Asgard in the south of The Barrens.

Secret of the Sands

Talk to the Shopkeeper at The Canyons to start this Favours Quest. Find the entrance to the caves in the south of the Barrens and climb down.

Work your way through THE BELOW and the Tendrils Puzzles. At the end of THE BELOW, you will discover the reason for the sandstorm. A trapped Hafgufa.

First, get rid of the ore barrier near the entrance / exit. Go to the very right and you can hit the oil flask from there. Now cross over where the oil flask was and look across to the other 3 Tendrils, not the ones above you. You can throw your axe through the nearest Tendril and deflect it at the back for the other two.

Jump back over the chasm towards the entrance / exit. From there you deflect your axe from one crystal to the other to destroy the remaining 3 Tendrils.

You now have to go back to the surface to free the Hafgufa. There is a path up from where the Hafgufa is. Destroy the Tendril at this location:
