The Sacred Wounds Puzzle is part of “The Stolen Mummy” Quest at the Vatican. In this quest, Indiana Jones explores the Tower of Nicholas V and uncovers secrets in the underground.
The puzzle begins with Indy pouring wine into a bowl placed in front of a wall painting of Jesus on the cross. Once the wine drains through an opening at the bottom of the bowl, five levers will appear around the painting of Jesus.
Be sure to take a photo of every mural— each is one of 42 Adventure Notes Collectibles of “The Stolen Mummy” Quest in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Five Small Murals
Near the Sacred Wounds Puzzle Mural of Jesus Christ, you’ll find five smaller murals. Each has a bowl where you pour wine to reveal a number.
1 – Holy Chalice
The small mural is located to the left of the Sacred Wounds mural. Remove the Antique Bust sitting on top of the bowl, take a photo of the mural, and let Indiana Jones pour wine into the bowl. This will reveal the Roman numeral two.
Notice that Jesus is offering wine with his left hand in this mural.
2 – Body of Christ Mural
The mural of Jesus holding a piece of bread is located to the left of the Sacred Wounds Mural. After Indy passes through, the gate behind him will close. Pour the wine into the bowl in front of the mural to reveal the Roman numeral two.
Notice that Jesus is giving out bread with his right hand.
3 – Spear of Longinus
Follow the path until you reach a room with a statue of Longinus holding a spear. Take a photo for the journal, then pour wine into the bowl in front of the statue. This will reveal the Roman numeral three inside the bowl.
Once finished, grab one of the long candle holders from the floor and smash the wall to the left to return to the room with the Sacred Wounds Puzzle mural.
4 – Walking on Water
This smaller mural is located to the right of the main one with the puzzle levers. It depicts Jesus walking on water, his hands outstretched with palms facing upward. Be sure to take a picture for the journal. Pour wine into the bowl to reveal the Roman numeral, which will be three.
Note that Jesus has his right foot forward.
5 – Anointment of Jesus
The final small mural is located behind the closed metal gate to the right of the previous one, “Walking on Water.” You can access it through a gap in the wall next to the gate. Be sure to take a photo of the mural, then pour wine into the bowl to reveal the Roman numeral four.
In the mural, Mary is shown anointing Jesus’ left foot.
Solving the Sacred Wounds Puzzle
Return to the Sacred Wounds Puzzle mural to solve it. There are five small murals with Roman numerals and five levers with matching Roman numerals.
Here’s what the small murals taught us:
Jesus is offering wine with his left hand -> Roman Number 2
Jesus is handing out bread with his right hand -> Roman Number 2
Jesus walks with his right foot forward -> Roman Number 3
Mary is anointing Jesus’ left foot -> Roman Number 4
Spear of Longinus -> Roman Number 3
SOLUTION
Set the levers like this:
1 – “Roman II” at the left hand
2 – “Roman II” at the right hand
3 – “Roman III” at the torso
4 – “Roman III” at the right foot
5 – “Roman IV” at the left foot
This will open up a passage behind the Sacred Wounds Puzzle mural and Indiana Jones can continue on to find the Warrior Giant’s Tomb.
