This guide provides a clear, step-by-step walkthrough for the “The Only Way Out” story quest in Dying Light 2. From exploring the Bazaar to completing key objectives, follow these instructions to navigate the quest efficiently and progress through the game.
The Only Way Out Quest Walkthrough
1 – Spend Time at the Bazaar
Head to the Bazaar located at the church, the prominent settlement within the Trinity district on the map. The church features a main gate as well as two side entrances, offering multiple points of access. It includes both an outdoor area and an interior space. Make your way inside the church to proceed.
2 – Meet the People of the Bazaar
Carlos is the first character you encounter, and he introduces you to the “The Spark of Invention” side quest. Once you scan the area, the individuals you need to speak with will be highlighted in green, making it easy to identify your next steps.
These are:
Lena, by the ramp near the entrance.
Urban, the barkeeper
Julian, shopkeeper at the Veggie Stall. He’ll give you the “Cheers!” Side Quest
Ahab, he’s near the shop.
Check out the shop and the craftmaster.
Once you’ve finished, exit the church through the main entrance and take a moment to examine the wall covered with missing persons’ notes. After that, leave the Bazaar and spend some time away from it. Hakon should reach out to you shortly. If he doesn’t, try sleeping for a full day and night. Once you’re outside the Bazaar, he will get in touch.
3 – Meet Hakon/Get to the Station
When Hakon calls, head to the Pumpkin Farm Settlement, located southeast of the Bazaar, to meet him. After the cutscene, it will be nighttime. Be sure to grab the Tape Collectible, “The City Classifieds – Egg Hunting,” from the table before you leave.
Head to the marker indicating the tunnel entrance, but be prepared – it’s swarming with biters. Take them down and pick the lock to gain access. Once inside, follow the vent until you reach a larger room. Move carefully and quietly across the space, keeping to the marker’s path. Thankfully, your torch won’t alert them, so feel free to keep it on. To exit this area, look for the large gap near the marker, as shown in the second screenshot.
In the next room, you’ll find the marker on your left. Carefully sneak past the sleeping biters, then crouch under the partially open tunnel gate. Continue straight ahead, keeping an eye out for UV Shrooms – make sure to collect them as you go. Remember to scan frequently to stay prepared.
At one point, your path will be obstructed. Head to the exit door and pick the lock to proceed. Once inside, cross the room and exit through the opposite door, returning to the tracks. From there, you can move on to the next section of the track.
Move through the next section by passing through the train car. Once outside, proceed to the next room and crouch to slip through the partially open gate.
Proceed through the train to the next section, then crouch beneath the half-open track gate to slip past the zombies.
You should now find yourself in a room illuminated by UV light. Follow the marker to locate and attempt to open the door. After the cutscene, prepare to face a group of zombies. Once they are dealt with, pick the lock on the door. From there, proceed cautiously and sneak through the ventilation shafts until the quest objective updates.
4 – Open the Airlock
Follow the marker to the airlock and push the button to open it.
5 – Talk to Hakon
Step out of the Main Terminal Station and into a hostile environment. Hakon waits on the rooftop of the building across the road.
6 – Find the Brass Knuckles Thief & Hubert Kerbatsos
Head to the nearby Windmill to locate Hubert Kerbatsos. Climb to the upper level and speak with the man waiting there. Once the cutscene ends, pursue Hubert and ensure you catch him.
To reach the GRE building roof, start by climbing the vertical shaft on the outside. Begin at ground level by scaling the nearby box, then leap into the shaft to ascend. Once at the top, you’ll find Hubert waiting for you at the GRE entrance.
Head to the Horseshoe Territory and locate the marker for Maya. Enter the building through the window and climb up to the next level when possible. In this room, you’ll find the “Lullaby” Graffiti Collectible. Once inside, speak with Maya.
7 – Report to Aitor
Head back to the Main Terminal Station Settlement in the Quarry End Territory and speak with Aitor. He will task you with uncovering the identity of Lucas’ killer.
8 – Talk to Hakon/Question Sophie
Hakon is waiting outside the building – go and speak with him. After that, head back to the Bazaar to meet with Sophie. However, before you can talk to her, you’ll need to speak with Carl, the leader of the Bazaar. Sophie is skeptical of you, so she insists you prove yourself by taking on a task at the Bazaar to earn her trust. I opted for the “Missing Persons” side quest from Damien, located inside the church, but feel free to choose any side quest available at the Bazaar.
9 – Meet Sophie/Ask the Craftmasters
Once you’ve completed a Side Quest for the Bazaar, return to Sophie to continue the storyline. Next, visit the Craftmasters. If they are engaged in a conversation, wait patiently until the “Talk” prompt appears. After speaking with them, head back to Sophie to wrap up the quest.
