The video game Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is full of collectible items like Treasure Hunts. These start with either buying or finding a Treasure Map and you have to find the treasure to complete the hunt. Here’s what to do in the “Mysterious Cache” Treasure Hunt to find the treasure!
1 – Find the Mysterious Cache Treasure Map
As soon as you arrive at the Hunters’ Camp in the Dark Woods region, talk to Squire Sincere Parris. He has his house and shop in the western part of Hunters’ Camp. The shop is highlighted on the in-game map with a bag symbol. He just wants 100 coins for the piece of paper called “Mysterious Cache” – it’s quite a bargain.
The paper isn’t a map; it’s a riddle that reads:
Trinkets, odds and ends,
may be hard to meet.
Yet through the dark and sombre trees,
You may find what you seek.
Follow the winds
Don’t lose your way
Let not the sand,
Keep you at bay.
2 – Mysterious Cache Location
Based on the Mysterious Cache riddle, the location of the treasure must be somewhere in the Dark Woods “through the dark and sombre trees” and sand nearby. Possibly a beach “Let not the sand, keep you at bay.”.
There are only a couple of beaches in the Dark Woods. Fast Travel to Red’s Sickbed Shelter in the Dark Woods. This is the first campfire after Red has fallen out of the Meeting House’s window.
Leave the shelter and go east to collect the “Treasure” at the beach in the location indicated in the screenshots below.
Red finds another paper labeled “Mysterious Cache (2)” instead of a treasure. The paper reads:
You’ve almost made your way to me. Impressive. Now let’s make things more interesting.
– My first does not shiver despite being frozen. Lulled by a loud fall, deaf he remains; peacefully sleeping in his small boat.
– My second, in the shadow of the mill, hidden amidst the rocks, sleeps with his feet in the water and dreams of one day reaching the sea.
Find them together, they’ll guide you to me.
3 – Mysterious Cache (2): First Location
The first riddle of the Mysterious Cache (2) goes like this:
My first does not shiver despite being frozen. Lulled by a loud fall, deaf he remains; peacefully sleeping in his small boat.
The location must be somewhere frozen, “lulled by a loud fall” – with a waterfall nearby. The only region in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden that has ice is Mount Pleasant. Fast Travel to Frozen Vales Shelter campfire. It’s the southernmost Fast Travel point at Mount Pleasant.
Exit the shelter and head to the cable car that goes back down towards the Mire Marshes. At the bottom of the cable car, head to the west through a gap in the wall. There is a loud waterfall with a skeleton inside a boat – “peacefully sleeping in his small boat” – below it. On land, you can find the “treasure” at this location. The skeleton is in the background:
Again, there won’t be a treasure but a note called “Mysterious Cache Last Riddle (1)”:
Find my better half and you’ll know how to find me.
On my grounds, the water is fresh, but no one drinks it. Is it the color? or the smell?
Before we work with the Mysterious Cache Last Riddle, we first have to find the Mysterious Cache (2) Second Location and riddle.
4 – Mysterious Cache (2): Second Location
The second riddle of the Mysterious Cache (2) goes like this:
My second, in the shadow of the mill, hidden amidst the rocks, sleeps with his feet in the water and dreams of one day reaching the sea.
The word “mill” is a giveaway in this riddle. Surely they mean the big mill in “The Harrows”! Fast Travel to the “Mill’s House” Shelter in the Harrows. It’s in the south of the region.
Exit the shelter and head to the south. There is a path that follows the coast all the way to the east. Follow it to the end, until you get to a big beach. At the southernmost point of this beach is a cave. Enter it and you will find the “treasure” location.
Again, there won’t be a treasure but a note called “Mysterious Cache Last Riddle (2)”:
Find my better half and you’ll know how to find me.
Where I lie, I silently ponder the majestic stone crown.
5 – Mysterious Cache Last Riddle and Treasure Location
You now possess Mysterious Cache Last Riddle 1 & 2. Combining both riddles reveals the ultimate treasure location – the real deal this time! The riddles are as follows:
On my grounds, the water is fresh, but no one drinks it. Is it the color? or the smell?
Where I lie, I silently ponder the majestic stone crown.
The first riddle “the water is fresh… is it the color… or the smell” makes one wonder if they mean the Mire Marshes! The Mire Marshes is also the only region that has not been visited by this Mysterious Cache Treasure Hunt! Therefore, travel to the Broken Bridge Shelter at The Mire Marshes.
Exit the shelter and head to the south, down to the lake. When you look at Siridean’s Island in the background, it almost looks like a crown – “…I silently ponder the majestic stone crown.” The treasure is here at this location. You have reached the end of the treasure hunt. This counts as one of two Treasure Hunts in the Mire Marshes.
