AC Mirage Treasurer Investigation – Gilded Butterflies Walkthrough and Ivory Coin Brooch Location

Treasurer Investigation Overview

Investigation type: Karkh Bureau investigation against the Order leader in Karkh
How it starts: After the Al-Anqa and Harbormaster investigations, with a briefing by Roshan overlooking the Bazaar
Mission: Gilded Butterflies
Objectives: Expose the Treasurer’s Identity, Gain an Audience with the Treasurer, Assassinate Ning
Target: Ning, the Treasurer (Al-Pairika)
Key characters: Roshan, Kong, Luca and Rebekah
What you need: The hairpin from the Grand Auction and an Ivory Coin’s brooch

After you defeat the Treasurer’s two subordinates, it is clear that the Order wants to buy a rare hairpin at the Grand Auction in the Bazaar. Roshan briefs you overlooking the Bazaar, and the case starts directly with the assassination briefing.

Case Text:
“Sitting at the top of Karkh’s web of power is the Treasurer. In controlling taxes and extorting the merchants of Karkh, The Treasurer is successfully funding the Order at the expense of the people’s livelihood. Coveting a rare hairpin from the East, the Treasurer seizes the imports of any foreign artifacts at the harbor, causing great distress for various businesses. Having hidden themselves successfully in the shadows, the Treasurer’s identity is known to few. It is time to draw back the veil.”

Before you can assassinate the Treasurer, you have to find out who they are. The investigation briefing gives you these leads:

Money: Visit Kong at his stall
Speech bubbles: Visit the foreign merchant stall and buy information on the Ivory Coin
Sound: Eavesdrop on two women
Paper: Obtain the Ivory Coin’s brooch
Skull: Assassinate the Treasurer

Keep Eagle Vision active while you walk through the Bazaar. The people and objects you need for this investigation glow orange.

1 – Expose the Treasurer’s Identity

Enter the Bazaar at ground level with Eagle Vision on. The first person glowing bright orange is Kong, Basim’s old friend from the Harbormaster investigation.

Get Kong’s Item from Luca

Kong wants you to steal back a saucer that Luca took from him. The mission marker on the world map now leads you to Luca’s stall.

Inside the stall, look for two things: a movable shelf and a breakable wall.

Move the shelf to the opposite side of the room and look up. There are oil jars on the ledge above. Climb up and pick one of them up.

Stand on the ledge and throw the oil jar at the breakable wall, like in the screenshot below.

Climb down and pull the shelf through the hole where the wall was. Just follow the scrape marks on the floor. On the other side, place the shelf at the passage that leads back to the official entrance of Luca’s stall, like in the screenshot below, and climb up to the beams. They lead to a hidden level above, where you find the saucer. Unbar the door and bring the saucer back to Kong.

In return, Kong tells you that the Treasurer wears traditional Chinese attire.

Inspect the Foreign Merchant’s Goods

Keep scanning the Bazaar with Eagle Vision. Close to Luca’s stall, a merchant stands next to a staircase to the second floor of the Bazaar. He invites you to visit his stall upstairs.

Take the staircase up and look at the highlighted artifacts once he finishes talking. Inspect the tools next to the merchant.

Eavesdrop on the Two Women

Next, find the two women on the second floor of the Bazaar. Sit on the nearby bench to start eavesdropping.

When they move on, follow the women and sit on the next bench to eavesdrop again. Afterwards, speak to the same woman. She reveals the key information: the Treasurer is a woman named Ning.

2 – The Grand Auction – Win or Steal the Hairpin

Now it is time for the Grand Auction in the central building of the Bazaar. Sit down at the marker to bid on the hairpin. In the cutscene, a Chinese woman shows a lot of interest in who is buying the hairpin. She is Ning, your target.

If you don’t have enough money to win the bid, you have to steal the hairpin from the man who bought it. Follow the hand quest marker on the HUD and the world map. It leads you to the balcony from the auction cutscene, where you can steal the Chinese hairpin.

3 – Ivory Coin Brooch Location – Gain an Audience With the Treasurer

With the hairpin in your pocket, follow the marker to the guard at the gate and talk to him.

He only lets you through to meet the Treasurer if you have an Ivory Coin’s brooch.

Buy Information on the Ivory Coin

Turn around from the gate with Eagle Vision on and you see a person glowing orange who waves at you. Follow them to a merchant’s stall, where you can buy information on the Ivory Coin for 1 Merchant Favor Token or 150 Dirham.

Get the Ivory Coin Brooch From the Guild

You now get a map marker to obtain the Ivory Coin’s brooch from the Guild. It leads high up to a balcony. On the ground floor, a guard makes sure that no one passes: everything behind him is a restricted area.

Climb up the wooden beams to reach the balcony on the second floor and enter through the open window. Inside, use Eagle Vision to spot your target on the ground floor.

Enter the next room with Eagle Vision on. On the ground floor, there are two guards and an orange highlight. Take care of the guards and pick up the brooch from the pillow.

4 – Assassinate Ning, the Treasurer

With the brooch, you get the objective to assassinate Ning, the Treasurer. Follow the map marker back to the guard at the gate and give him the brooch. He lets you pass, and another guard asks you to follow him to the audience room. The Treasurer is still busy, so you have to wait for her to finish.

As you enter the Treasurer’s chambers, the map marker turns into an orange skull. In the following cutscene, Ning is so taken by the hairpin you brought that she sends her guards away, and you assassinate her with the hidden blade.

Escape the Bazaar and Return to Rebekah

Once the Treasurer is dead, escape the Bazaar and return to Rebekah at the Karkh Bureau. The mission marker on the map and HUD shows you the way. This closes the Treasurer investigation.
