The “A Study in Fear” Fieldwork begins as soon as Indiana Jones and Gina exit the Secret Pyramid in Sukhothai during “The Blessed Pearl” Adventure. Indy recommends speaking with Pailin first before approaching Sunan. This quest involves collecting 10 Notes and rewards 650 Adventure Points.
A Study in Fear – Start
The Fieldwork quest, “A Study in Fear,” begins by heading back to the village and speaking with Pailin in her hut.
Pailin is concerned about some loud explosions nearby, and Indiana Jones is setting out to investigate.
Investigate the Explosions
To investigate the explosions, get into the boat and leave the village. While on the boat, Gina points out that the explosions seemed to come from the southwest. Dock the boat nearby and head south.
Note 1 – Devil Card
The Devil Card can be found on a sandbag near the dock.
Description

Note 2 – Excavation Orders
Go to the Explosion Site and find a wooden crate with a fruit basket on top. You’ll also find the Excavation Orders there.
Description
“Fascist document concerning Voss’ guest archaeologist.”
Note 3 – Dream Journal
Near the center of the area, you’ll find another set of wooden crates with a rifle. The diary page is located here.

Investigate the Temple Grounds
At the center of this location, Indiana Jones will come across a large hole in the ground with an entrance – the Exploded Opening. Take a picture for the Field Notes, then head inside. Your map will update, and you’ll receive the “Khmer Vault Map.” Follow the footprints on the floor to find a lever. It’s easy to guess what happens next—Indy will slide down into a Temple Trap room when he uses it.
Escape the Trap Room
Start at the area with the dead excavation team and spikes. Go straight into the next room, where Indiana Jones meets Annika Lund, a former student hired by Voss to investigate the site. Burn the straw to reveal a hidden lever, then use the lever.
The door’s mechanism will activate, revealing a pedestal. Annika will show Indy an item she found at the excavation site, holding it in her hand. Indiana will identify it as a key. Take the key and place it on the moving pedestal.
Note 4 – Symbol Pedestal
The door will open when the three symbols on the pedestal align, as shown in the screenshot below. To align them, remove the key, reinsert it, and remove it again at the right moment. Be sure to take a photo as well.

Stop the Cogwheels
Head into the Temple and follow the path. Annika will run ahead. Soon, you’ll reach a room with moving wooden cogwheels. The large cogwheel at the bottom has two gaps where you can pass through. Climb up on the other side where the two cogwheels are turning, but you won’t be able to go through yet. Instead, turn around on this ledge and backtrack, but one level higher.
Go through the same cogwheel, jump across, and use the vertical pole’s platform to reach the other side of the room.
To complete the Riddles of the Ancients Quest, you’ll need the Ancient Relic on the other side. Go back and look for a lever on the wall near the vertical turning platform. Pulling it will stop the cogwheels in the correct position.
Head to the back of the room where the two cogwheels are, and go through the passage that is now safe.
Note 5 – Another Symbols Pedestal
Enter the room and take a picture of the key pedestal inside.
Description
“These fascinating pedestal locks must be powered by running water.”
A key is on the floor next to the pedestal—pick it up. Look for a Whip Yank point to release the water and power the pedestal. Then, use both keys on the pedestal.
To align the symbols on the pedestal, use both keys. Start with the circle key, which blocks only the circle symbol. Align the cross symbol with the circle. Next, use the cross key, which blocks both the circle and the cross, to align all the symbols with the diamond.
A passage will open, and Annika will run ahead, leaving Indiana Jones trapped between spike walls. The trap is broken, so you can simply crawl under the door to escape. Continue down the path to reach the tomb. To open the sarcophagus, pull the two levers at its base.
The tomb is empty, and the exit will be locked—it’s a trap. Find a wooden pole on the floor and use it to smash the brick wall on the ground level. This will stop the spike trap, but it will also flood the room with water. At the top of the room, opposite the entrance, there’s another brick wall. Use your breathing device, then remove the beam blocking it. This will break the wall, and Annika and Indy will be swept into a cavern. Let the water carry you to the exit and grab Annika’s hand when prompted.
Find the Real Demon’s Tomb
In the cavern, Annika will show you a door above. Head to the back of the cavern to climb up and find an Ancient Relic for the Riddles of the Ancients Discoveries Quest.
Swing to the door using the two overhead whip points. Climb onto the ledge and help Annika up. Turn the levers to open the door, which leads to the Real Demon’s Tomb. Before you enter, make sure to take a picture of the Khmer Water Mill for the Field Notes.
Solve the Demon’s Tomb Puzzle
The Demon’s Tomb contains three puzzles in the center, each requiring an extra key. At the very top of the tomb, you’ll find the Demon’s Head.
Note 6 – Demon’s Head
Take a picture of the large demon head at the top of the tomb.
Description
“A colossal demon’s head, carved in typical Khmer fashion.”
Use a whip yank on the right side of the Demon’s Head to make the water flow.
Note 7 – Bird’s Nest Key
There’s a red bird nesting in this cave, and that’s where you’ll find the third key. Stand facing the Demon’s Head and start climbing to your right. Look for whip climb spots above you to reach the top of the tomb, where you can swing over to the bird’s nest.

Use the three keys to align the symbols: the Cross & Diamond Key, the Cross & Circle Key, and the Circle Key. Solve the alignment puzzles on all three pedestals, then insert the keys into the center pedestal slots. This will reveal a lever. Pull the lever, and the Demon’s Head will turn, opening an entrance. To leave the tomb, use one of the two exit levers.
Find an Exit
After falling into the water, Indiana Jones needs to find another way out of the tomb. Thankfully, the spike trap is now flooded. Use the breathing device to dive through the only available passage. Once you reach the other side, exit the water and climb up using the overhead whip point.
This will lead you to the exit, where you’ll hear Annika screaming as she gets caught in one of the traps. Grab the Yaksha statue by the door.
Note 8 – Yaksha
Description
“An allegedly cursed idol coveted by Voll’s lackey Annika.”
Take the Idol to Pailin
Then, pull the lever to open the door.
Note 9 – Annika’s Research
Open the door and pick up the Journal page from where Annika was crushed.
Description
“Notes in Swedish regarding the legend that Annika was obsessed with.”
Avoid or confront the fascists at the entrance, then head back to Pailin.
Note 10 – Demolition Request
There’s a piece of paper on Pailin’s desk if you haven’t found it yet.
Description
“Fascist document requesting material for an excavation.”
