Quest Start
The journey begins in Tok’s Kingdom, nestled in the northern reaches of the City of Curved Stones. Here, Aran and Adso stumble upon a statue of a young scholar, noticeably missing a flute. Venturing further north, they encounter a colossal Sandstorm. Upon stepping into its swirling chaos, they are abruptly teleported to the southern Hiss City, where their quest to recover the Novice’s Flute begins.
How to find the Novice’s Flute
First of all, make sure to activate the Anvil just to the north of your starting position – the Citadel Overlook Anvil in the Southern Hiss City.
Your objective is to reach the Anvil located in the northern area of Southern Hiss City, specifically within the Inscribed Stone Room, hidden behind a metal gate. To access the Anvil, you must first unlock the gate by activating two blue buttons positioned on either side of it.
Blue Button 1
To locate the first blue button, head to the arena at the center of Southern Hiss City. At the heart of the arena, you’ll see a green glowing platform. From there, take the eastern path, where you’ll find a dispenser for green orbs. When a green orb hits you, you’ll be teleported back to the glowing platform in the arena and forced to fight a round. To avoid this, carefully dodge the green orb as you approach the dispenser. Nearby, you’ll notice a locked gate to the right of the dispenser and a path leading to the left.
Take the path to the left and defeat the Hiss to obtain the Viper Key. Use it to unlock the gate beside the green dispenser. Beyond the gate, you’ll find a ladder leading upward. Before climbing, be sure to dodge the orb again; failing to do so will leave you vulnerable while on the ladder.
At the top, you’ll encounter another ladder. Climb it to reach a blue orb dispenser, which will grant access to the first of two blue buttons located near the northern Anvil.
Blue Button 2
For the second Blue Button location, head back to the arena. This time, head west and look for a gap you can squeeze through to get further west.
On the other side, open up the gate with the Viper Key and take the staircase to the top, where you find a lever to remove the quicksand below. Now head down, where you will find another green orb dispenser. Dodge the orb and climb up the ladder behind the dispenser to reach the second blue orb dispenser.
With Adso’s assistance, press the two blue buttons to open the large gate leading to the Inscribed Stone Room. Once inside, interact with the inscription to allow Adso to learn its contents. Next, head to the Serpents Amphitheater and engage with the withered inscription stone there. This will dispel the sandstorm blocking the entrance to Northern Hiss City, clearing the path ahead.
Enter Northern Hiss City through the sandstorm pathway and seek out the group in possession of the Viper Key. Once you’ve secured the key, head south to the Inscribed Stone Room Anvil. Upon entering, the exit doors will seal behind you, and sand will begin to rise rapidly. Aran must act quickly to escape. Navigate your way toward the Anvil’s location, as this will trigger the gate to slowly open. Look above – you’ll find a hook you can interact with to proceed.
You will find yourself in a room above the Anvil. Here, look for the prison cells to find a dead person. Interact with them to find an Ogre’s tooth. Next to this cell is the crank that will get you out of here.
Use the tooth to locate Tok the Ogre. His position is marked on the map by a bluish-purple head. I discovered him at the highest point of the watchtower within the Watchtower Domain. Upon finding him, he will reward Aran with the Novice’s Flute.
Take the flute to the statue located in the northern part of the City of the Curved Stones to progress further in the story.
With the Novice’s Flute in hand, you’re now ready to progress further in the rich world of Blades of Fire. Place it in the statue at the City of Curved Stones and uncover new areas to explore.
