The Death Stranding has dramatically altered the environment, and with it, all life on Earth. DOOMS, chiral creatures, and cryptobiotes are just some examples of the new biological and zoological phenomena that have appeared across the world. To understand the causes of these phenomena and predict how life on Earth might further change, it is important to analyse ecosystems as a whole, and not look only at the level of individual species.

It is to this end that the Metagenomicist, a scientist working for APAC, has set up her lab. Analysing chiral microbes found to be living parasitically off chronobiotes, she has examined their ecology and unique characteristics. Her work is likely to advance our understanding of not only chiral creatures but also variants of BTs, such as catchers.

The Metagenomicist’s efforts, however, are slightly hampered by the twenty-one-minute syndrome from which she suffers.

Rewards: The Metagenomicist

1-Star Reward

1 – EX Capture Grenade

Capsule-shaped hand grenades that can crystallise the physical cores of large BTs (catchers).

Each capsule contains a liquid mixture of parasitic chiral microbes, bodily fluids from DOOMS sufferers, and a special coagulant. Throwing one into the mouth of a weakened BT will trigger the crystallisation process: first, the parasitic chiral microbes are attracted to the BT’s core, which emits powerful chiral radiation. They then attach themselves to the core, which allows the DOOMS sufferer’s bodily fluids to dissolve its surface. The microbes can then penetrate the core, instantly disrupting the flow of time within the BT’s body and destroying it. Finally, the coagulant freezes the core before it can fall apart, transforming it into a milky-white chiral crystal known as a BT crystal.

A chiral rodent that can be worn as a hat. When equipped, it has a calming effect on nearby chiral creatures.

APAS Enhancement: Chiral Crystal Yield Boost

Occasionally allows a bumper haul of chiral crystals to be collected. This is done by recovering crystals that disperse during collection attempts.

Chiral Spider Hat

A chiral arachnid that can be worn as a hat. When equipped, it has a calming effect on nearby chiral creatures. If Sam’s stamina drops below a certain level, the hat will also draw blood in order to replenish it.
