“Background Checks” is the follow-up Mission of “TOP SECRETS” for the Ryujin faction in Starfield. This is the step-by-step walkthrough.
After stealing the Project Dominon Files, the executive Masako Imada wants me to talk to Dalton Fiennes.
1. TALK TO DALTON FIENNES
Mission text:
“I need to find Dalton Fiennes in his office on the Executive Floor and see what I can do to help find the mole at Ryujin Industries.”
Follow the mission marker to Dalton Fiennes to talk to him. He’s in a server room below Ularu’s office. He wants you to meet someone called “Nyx” and infiltrate the Ryujin building and gives you a non-lethal weapon with ammo.
2. MEET NYX AT MADAME SAUVAGE’S PLACE
Mission text:
“I need to meet a person named Nyx at Madame Sauvage’s Place in Neon. He should already know that Directive Theta has been enacted.”
Follow the mission marker to Madame Sauvage’s Place. It’s one level down at Ebbside. Estelle Vincent (Nyx) is sitting inside, at ground level. You can either pay him 2500 Credits, Persuade him and do him a favour. Continue with this guide if you choose the favour, otherwise continue with Mission Point 3.
As favour, Nyx asks you, while you’re in the building anyway, to get information on Camden Cho from another workstation.
3. FIND A WAY INTO RYUJIN TOWER
Mission text:
“I need to find an alternate way into Ryujin Tower since Dalton said my access to the elevators will be temporarily disabled.”
Follow the Mission Marker out of Madam Sauvage’s and turn left, following a long corridor with a staircase at the end.
At the end of the corridor go up the big staircase all the way to the very top, where you can push a big red button.
This will move a container closer. You can move through it to get to the other side. Be careful not to fall down. There is a red vent you can use on the other side to get into Ryujin Industries HQ.
4. RUN NYX’S PROGRAM ON ULARU’S AND CAMDON CHO’S COMPUTER
Mission text:
“I need to enter Ryujin Industries and run the program Nyx gave me on Ularu’s and Camden’s computers.”
You will only get the “Camden” mission point, if you picked Nyx’ favour option. His computer is on the way to Ularu’s, so I’m quickly covering them together.
If you have a companion, best to leave them behind. They shoot to kill and we don’t want that in this mission.
Now follow the short vent corridor you can open the vent again at the other end of the corridor to get inside the building.
From here, you can climb up into a vent above.
Follow the vent until you get to an open hatch, where you can drop down into a room. Be careful! There are guards!
Exit the room. Sneak past security or Use the Novablast Disruptor. Follow the mission marker two levels up. Camden’s office is on this level, Ularu’s office is one level further up.
Stay on the right and you will find Camden’s office. Camden Cho’s door needs a Novice lockpick hack. Just interact with the computer inside and interact with the unlocked file. That’s the favour done.
Exit Camden’s office and turn right. There is another door that opens easily. It’s some sort of maintenance room with vent access.
Open the vent and go inside. Look up. There is a vent opening that allows you to climb.
Follow the vent to the top where you can climb further up.
At the end of this vent you can finally drop down into a room.
Once down there, open the door and deal with the guards. It’s an open surveillance room with two floors. Take the staircase up to the second floor. There is a computer where you can turn off the robot units. It has a Novice lock.
You can now cross the hall. But there are still human guards to take care of!
Once there, jump up on top of the fridge to open the vent. Then go inside.
Follow the vent to the other end where you can open up another vent to get outside.
You are now above the Executive Office Lobby. Drop down and go up to Ularu’s Office. Interact with her computer and open the “Rover” folder.
5. EXIT RYUJIN TOWER
Mission text:
“Now that I’ve finished running Nyx’s program, I should leave Ryujin Tower and return to him at his apartment.”
Ularu’s office has a vent hatch at the ceiling. Climb one of the shelf units and open it to get inside.
In this vent there is an exit to Neon.
6. MEET NYX AT HIS APARTMENT
Mission text:
“Now that I’ve finished running Nyx’s program, I should leave Ryujin Tower and return to him at his apartment.”
Follow the mission marker to Nyx’s apartment. Enter and talk to him. You will receive a slate for Dalton.
7. RETURN TO DALTON AT RYUJIN TOWER
Mission text:
“I have the data that Dalton wanted as part of Directive Theta. I need to return to him at Ryujin Tower”
Head back to Neon Core and enter Ryujin Tower. Take the elevator up to Executive Offices to speak to Dalton. Hand over the slate and wait for his conclusions. He identifies Imogene as mole.
This concludes the Mission and the “GUILTY PARTIES” Mission starts.
