Mission 3: New Beginnings is the first mission of Chapter 1 in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, picking up after Bruce Wayne’s return to Gotham. This walkthrough covers everything in the mission – from following the bats through the neglected Wayne Manor grounds, descending into the cave, and chasing Detective Flass through the Gotham Docks. Along the way, you can collect all 5 Surfboards for the Batcave Trophy and grab the Nautical Red Brick before the final interrogation scene.

Batcave Trophy: Surfboards
Find and destroy 5 Surfboards in this Mission to receive the Batcave Trophy: Surfboards. Each tree adds up to the total of 170 Trophy Collectibles. Therefore, you will have 5 of 170 Trophy Collectibles after destroying all five Surfboards.
Here’s where they are:
Red Brick: Nautical
The Red Brick is in the locked cabin at the end of the mission, before interrogating Flass.
Returning Home
Follow the Bat
Mission 3 is the first mission in Chapter 1, also named The Batcave, where Bruce and Alfred return to the Wayne Manor Garden grounds, now in a neglected state. Follow the bats that are flying around on the Wayne Manor grounds. You can also use “Detect” to find them. Be nice to the “W” hedge in front of the gate leading to the well of Mission 1: League of Shadows, and water it on the way there.
You can do the same fun stuff you could do in Mission 1: League of Shadows.
For Fun: Water the Plants
Find the empty plant pots in the garden and water them to make the place bloom again!
For Fun: Sit on a Bench
Just find an empty bench and relax!
For Fun: Fountain
Reach the top of the fountain to get the blue stud!
For Fun: Leaf Big Bounce
There are two big leaves in the ponds. Perform a Big Bounce (double-jump while on top) to reach the blue stud at the top.
The gate towards the well is shut. Destroy everything in front of it and build a Riding Lawn Mower. Ride it and knock the gate down.
On the other side, the passages from Mission 1 are not there anymore. Destroy everything here to build a stack of tyres to cross the wall.
There is no way to cross the river. But there is a tree. Shoot it three times with the shuriken to make it drop down to serve as a bridge. Cross over and move through the crawlspace to reach the well. There is a blue stud behind the well.
Go Down the Well
Destroy everything around the well to build a crane to open the well. Use it to open the well and descend.
Explore the Cave
Use the crawlspace at the bottom of the well to advance into the batcave. Shoot the base of the three stalagmites in your way to cross over to a ledge. Shimmy to the left, along the rail, and climb up the tall stalagmite.
Push the stalagmite over to create a way for Alfred to cross. Now, character switch is introduced. Switch to Alfred and join Bruce at the top. Together, you can lift the block ahead and advance.
Reach the Wayne Manor Foundations
Follow the silver studs to a light and other scrap. Destroy everything to build a big spotlight. Use it and direct it onto the bats. Before using it, look for a grapple point in the area. It will lead to a purple stud.
You can now reach the Wayne Manor Foundations to uncover the car at the top.
Docks
Chase Detective Flass
Bruce has now become Batman – finally. Fight the thugs, then team up with Jim Gordon. Before entering the building, have a look around behind the stacked containers in the courtyard to find a blue stud.
In the building, shoot a batarang at the container target ahead to drop it into the water. Now you can get across.
In the next sections are some thugs. You can choose to fight them head-on or from above. Explore the area before chasing after Flass to find a blue stud.
In the next section is a nasty yellow machine blocking the passage. Switch to Jim Gordon. He has a Foam Sprayer. Aim and shoot at the machine cogs as if you would with a shuriken/batarang. Go through to the other side, destroy everything, and you will find one blue and one purple stud.
Batcave Trophy: Surfboards – Destroy 5 Surfboards
Destroy 5 Surfboards in this New Beginnings level to receive the Batcave Trophy: Surfboards as a reward. Every surfboard counts as 1 of 170 trophy collectibles.
The first surfboard is right after Jim Gordon blocked the machine cogs to the left of the truck that has to be moved.
Move the truck by interacting with it, then use the grapple points to fight the thugs, or shoot the crane with a batarang to drop the container onto them.
There is a trailer with three canisters blocking the way – Flass teasing behind the gate. Before moving the trailer away by pushing it, there is a blue stud on a rope above you.
Batcave Trophy: Surfboards – Destroy 5 Surfboards
Destroy 5 Surfboards in this New Beginnings level to receive the Batcave Trophy: Surfboards as a reward. Every surfboard counts as 1 of 170 trophy collectibles.
The second surfboard is right after you’ve moved the trailer away. It is visible from the unblocked passage.
In the next section, switch to Jim Gordon and use his Foam Sprayer to spray the crane’s cogs to stop the container from turning. You can then cross over to the other side.
You will now reach a conveyor belt with fast-moving containers. There is no way to cross with them moving so fast. Shoot the lock with a batarang, then switch to Jim Gordon and shoot the cogs with the Foam Sprayer. Now you can cross over to the other side.
Before crossing: There is a blue stud in one of the alleys.
After defeating the attacking thugs, take your time to go back for the surfboard and also a blue stud. Then proceed into the warehouse.
Batcave Trophy: Surfboards – Destroy 5 Surfboards
Destroy 5 Surfboards in this New Beginnings level to receive the Batcave Trophy: Surfboards as a reward. Every surfboard counts as 1 of 170 trophy collectibles.
Before moving ahead in the warehouse toward the ice cream car, look for a crawlspace. Use it to get to the other side, where you can take down a thug and find Surfboard number 4. You can also approach from behind the ice cream car to fight the thug head-on.
Continue to chase Detective Flass into the section ahead. You will find a blue stud here behind a container.
Destroy everything here, in front of the Donuts loading dock. Use a batarang to shoot down the yellow container to receive more parts. Then, look for a handle you can pull with Batman.
Switch to Jim Gordon while still pulling the handle and use the Foam Sprayer on the machine cogs.
Now, look for a padlock to access the mechanism behind it. Use it to transport a container to the now-open door. Then, shoot the container’s padlock to release a part.
You now have all the parts to build a ram. Use it to move it back, then switch to your other character to press the button.
Enter and talk to Detective Flass.
