A Wider World is the 6-quest questline in the Charting the Unknown DLC for Crimson Desert that unlocks ships and sailing on the Great Ocean of Pywel. Kliff and the Greymanes build their first ship in Vellua, sail south in search of an uncharted island and claim Auronui Island as their foothold. This walkthrough covers every quest in journal order, with the shipbuilding and pioneering costs, why you need Deckhands, the hidden treasure map on Auronui Island and all rewards.

1 – A Call from Beyond the Horizon
A Call from Beyond the Horizon is the first quest of A Wider World. You find the questline under Faction Quests in your journal, not under Main Quests. It starts at the docks of Pailune City, where your comrades have something to discuss.
Speak with Your Comrades
Talk to the group of Greymanes at the Pailune City docks. A child has told them about an uncharted island beyond the southern sea, and the Greymanes argue whether it is worth a look. They agree that they were heading out to sea anyway, and that they need a proper ship to get there. This conversation starts the Shipbuilding tutorial.
Dispatch Workers to the Small Shipbuilding Mission in Vellua
Vellua is a coastal fishing village south of Hernand, in the southwest of the map. Put the pointer on the Vellua node on your map and press Triangle to open Details. In the Details menu, open the Missions tab and select Small Shipbuilding.
The mission needs five comrades, and at least one of them must be skilled in Engineering. It also costs 600 stone, 600 wood, 1,200 food and 10,000 money. Dispatch your comrades and wait 12 hours for them to build the ship. The finished ship is registered as a mount, but it does not show up in the character menu. This completes A Call from Beyond the Horizon.
2 – Where the Wind Blows
Examine the Harbor Notice Board
Travel to Vellua. South of the village are the Harbor Notice Board and your dock. Talk to the Greymane standing in front of the board. He warns you that ships full of outlaws have been turning up in large numbers, each with a heavy bounty on their heads. The notice board lists bounties for pirate ships and the waters where they appear most often. The strongest pirate ships sometimes sail in fleets along sea routes, so keep an eye on the water around you.
Examine the Supplies
The supplies are also at the docks, but closer to the water, where boxes and barrels are stacked on a wagon. Talk to the Greymane there. Sailors say there is an island along the route that is covered in a blue mineral, Azurite, so this trip could bring in a fortune instead of just fish.
Before you leave, your comrades hand you the quest reward, the Harpoon Gun. Unlike other ranged weapons, it also fires underwater. Equip it from the ranged weapon tab with the D-pad, hold L2 to aim and release L2 to fire a harpoon.
Go to the Ship Manager
Hopkins, the Vellua Ship Manager, has his shop under the roofed area nearby. Every port has a Ship Manager. Use Manage Ships to choose your ship if you own more than one, Buy to purchase a new ship and Manage Trade Goods to load goods you brought by wagon.
Use Manage Crew to assign your comrades to roles. A ship function only works with a crew member assigned to it, and you cannot set sail without the roles required for departure. Assign at least 3 comrades as Deckhands now. Only Deckhands can pioneer an island later in the questline, so this saves you a trip back to Vellua.
Right next to Hopkins, a Blueprint: Hernandian Sail lies on a wooden crate. Take it before you leave. You craft the Small Hernandian Sail at a Workstation from 110 Fine Timber, 35 Iron Ore, 25 Cloth Pieces and 25 Fleece.
Set Sail
Walk to the end of the long pier south of Vellua, where your ship is moored. Board it and take the ship’s wheel to set sail. This completes Where the Wind Blows.
3 – A Beginning Beyond the Waves
Discover an Uncharted Island
The uncharted island your comrades talked about is marked on your map, out in the Great Ocean of Pywel. Sail towards the marker. As soon as you get close, the crew lands on the island automatically. The Greymanes spot blue gems glinting on the rocks right away, and the island turns out to be Auronui Island.
How to Sail and Fight at Sea
Steer the ship with the left stick. Press X to unfurl the sails and Circle to furl them to change your speed. Sea breezes change direction and strength depending on time and location. With the wind behind you, the square sails unfurl and the wind pushes you along. Sailing into a headwind, they stay furled and the wind has no effect.
To fight other ships, press L2 to switch the camera, aim to port or starboard and press R2 to fire the cannons. How many cannons fire depends on how many Gunners you have assigned. Ramming an enemy ship at high speed also does damage, or you can board it and fight on deck. Press L1 and R1 together to start Underwater Detection.
4 – Footsteps in Unfamiliar Lands
Dispatch to Pioneer Auronui Island
Newly discovered islands are uncharted. Pioneering one gives it an anchorage where you can retrieve your ship, and pioneered islands become bases for ocean exploration with new missions, shops and more.
To start the mission, Kliff and your ship both have to be inside the red circle around Auronui Island on the map. Then press Triangle on the Pioneer icon on the right side of the screen. The mission needs 3 comrades, takes 12 hours and costs 1,000 stone, 1,000 wood, 2,000 food and 3,000 money.
Only comrades assigned as Deckhands can pioneer an island. If the menu says that no comrades are available to send, you have no Deckhands on board. In that case, sail back to the Ship Manager in Vellua and assign at least 3 Deckhands first.
After dispatching the 3 comrades, wait 12 hours, then complete the mission in the Auronui Island menu. The island now has a dock, and the pioneering is complete. You can do Secret of the Winding Island while you wait.
5 – Secret of the Winding Island
Examine the Area Around Auronui Island
Secret of the Winding Island unlocks while the Pioneer mission is running. Follow the paths on Auronui Island and enter the cave.
Inside the cave lies a skeleton with a Forgotten Treasure Map next to it. The map shows a sketch of the island with a red X.
Next to the skeleton is a chest with a Shattered Ancient Relic, Flour and Tobacco.
Dig Up the Forgotten Treasure
For the treasure from the map, head to the beach on the north side of the island. On top of a hill, you can see the top of a half-buried treasure chest. Equip the shovel as your tool, press R1 to dig away the dirt mounds around the chest and open it.
Inside is the Blueprint: Ship Teleportation Device. Read it in your inventory to add it to your blueprints. The device is installed on your ship and lets you return to it instantly, even from far away. You craft it at a Workstation from 15 Shiny Ore, 5 Azurite and 10 Iron Ore.
6 – Signpost of the Great Ocean
Speak with Your Comrades on Auronui Island
Signpost of the Great Ocean starts as soon as you head back from the pier towards the island. In the cutscene, your comrades celebrate their new foothold, which saves them from crossing the whole sea every time. One of them shows off the Azurite they found, proof that the treasure island rumors were true, and they plan to bring the whole crew to haul away much more.
The cutscene completes Signpost of the Great Ocean and the A Wider World questline. Reward: 5 Ancient Relics. Ancient Relics are a currency that you cannot sell. They come from an ancient maritime kingdom and are sometimes found in the deep ocean. Collect them and trade them to an expert merchant for rare goods.
