Banishers Ghosts of New Eden: Mysterious Cache Treasure Hunt and All Riddle Locations

1 – Buy the Mysterious Cache Note at Hunters’ Camp

Location: The Dark Woods – Sincere Parris’ shop in the Hunters’ Camp

As soon as you reach the Hunters’ Camp in The Dark Woods, visit Squire Sincere Parris. His house and shop are in the western part of the camp, marked with a bag symbol on the in-game map. He sells a note called Mysterious Cache for just 100 coins.

Depending on your story progress, the note can also turn up at Kate Newsmith’s shop or with Nellie at the blacksmith instead. The note isn’t a map but a riddle:

What the Riddle Means
“Through the dark and sombre trees” points to The Dark Woods, and “let not the sand keep you at bay” points to a beach. There are only a couple of beaches in The Dark Woods, and the next step shows you the right one.

2 – Mysterious Cache Location: The Beach in The Dark Woods

Fast travel to Red’s Sickbed Shelter in The Dark Woods. It’s the first campfire after Red falls out of the Meeting House window.

Leave the shelter and head east to the beach. Dig at the spot shown in the screenshots below.

Instead of treasure, Red finds another note called Mysterious Cache (2). This one has two halves, and each half leads to its own dig spot:

You’ve almost made your way to me. Impressive. Now let’s make things more interesting.

– My first does not shiver despite being frozen. Lulled by a loud fall, deaf he remains; peacefully sleeping in his small boat.
– My second, in the shadow of the mill, hidden amidst the rocks, sleeps with his feet in the water and dreams of one day reaching the sea.

Find them together, they’ll guide you to me.

3 – Mysterious Cache (2) First Location: Mount Pleasant

What the First Half Means
“Does not shiver despite being frozen” means somewhere icy, and “lulled by a loud fall” means a waterfall. The only region in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden with ice is Mount Pleasant.

Fast travel to the Frozen Vales Shelter. It’s the southernmost fast travel point in Mount Pleasant.

Exit the shelter and take the cable car back down towards The Mire Marshes. At the bottom, head west through a gap in the wall. Below a loud waterfall lies a skeleton in a small boat, the one “peacefully sleeping in his small boat”. Dig on land at the spot below, with the skeleton in the background.

Again there’s no treasure, just a note called Mysterious Cache Last Riddle (1):

On my grounds, the water is fresh, but no one drinks it. Is it the color? or the smell?

This is only half of the last riddle, so head to the second Mysterious Cache (2) location before you go looking for the treasure.

4 – Mysterious Cache (2) Second Location: The Harrows

What the Second Half Means
“In the shadow of the mill” is the giveaway: it means the big mill in The Harrows. “Hidden amidst the rocks” and “his feet in the water” point to a spot on the coast.

Fast travel to the Mill’s House Shelter in the south of The Harrows.

Exit the shelter and head south. A path follows the coast all the way east. Follow it to the end until you reach a big beach. At the southernmost point of this beach is a cave. Enter it to find the dig spot.

Tip: The same cave also holds a Blue Chest, so open it while you’re here.

Once more, Red finds a note instead of treasure, called Mysterious Cache Last Riddle (2):

5 – Mysterious Cache Last Riddle Solution and Treasure Location

Location: The Mire Marshes – the lakeshore south of the Broken Bridge Shelter

With both halves of the last riddle, you can finally find the real treasure. Put them together:

What the Last Riddle Means
Fresh water that nobody drinks because of its color or smell points to The Mire Marshes. It’s also the only region this treasure hunt hasn’t sent you to yet. The “majestic stone crown” is Siridean’s Island, which looks like a crown from the lakeshore.

Fast travel to the Broken Bridge Shelter in The Mire Marshes.

Exit the shelter and head south, down to the lake. With Siridean’s Island in the background, you’re at the right spot. The treasure is buried here, and this time it’s the real deal.

6 – Mysterious Cache Reward and Prospector Trophy

Reward: 2,261 Piece of Eight and 3 Void Splinters
Counts as: The Mire Marshes Treasure Hunt 2 of 2

Digging up the final cache ends the treasure hunt and gives you:

Even though the hunt starts in The Dark Woods, it counts as one of the two Treasure Hunts in The Mire Marshes for region completion. The other one is Marsh’s Cache Note and Sketch.

Like every Treasure Hunt, the Mysterious Cache also counts toward the Prospector trophy.
