Chapter 4: The Laughing Man – Complete Walkthrough

This is the complete step-by-step walkthrough of Chapter 4: The Laughing Man of the Video Game: Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

Chapter 4 begins with Kiryu’s identity on the verge of being exposed by Patriarch Homare Nishitani III, following Kiryu’s victory in their duel.

CUTSCENE 1 – THE CASTLE

THE CASTLE – NIGHT

Like at the end of Chapter 3, HOMARE, KIRYU, TSURUNO, and the stewards are still standing together at the exit of the Castle.

HOMARE
You knew this whole time, didn’t ya Tsuruno!? You knew who he really was! Heh heh…
Figured he was too strong to be some street punk.
This guy’s the real deal. You might even call him a dragon.

KIRYU hits HOMARE unconscious before he can continue. He kneels down to hit HOMARE again. But TSURUNO stops him.

TSURUNO
Hey! Enough already, Joryu!
We ain’t gettin’ outta here if ya don’t know that off.

KIRYU turns to the stewards to talk to them.

KIRYU
What’re you standing around for? Your boss needs a hand.

STEWARD
Stupid piece of sh*t! Quit f*ckin’ around!
You really think yer gettin’ outta here alive?
Oh yeah? Well, that ain’t gonna fly with me.

The STEWARD takes a few steps forward, with TSURUNO stepping in front of him.

TSURUNO
Joryu’s the Watase Family’s guest, ya hear? Ya can’t just off him in front of me.

STEWARD
I ain’t backin’ down after what he did to me and the patriarch!

TSURUNO
Yeah? So yer gonna ignore Patriarch Nishitani’s orders?

STEWARD
Huh?

TSURUNO
Before fists started flyin’, the patriarch told ya to keep yer hands off him.
Seemed crystal clear to me. Don’t ya think?

STEWARD
I don’t remember that sh*t!

TSURUNO
What’s yer deal, f*ckface? Runnin’ yer mouth with that dumba*s haircut.

STEWARD
What’s wrong with my hair…?

TSURUNO
So what’s it gonna be?
You gonna ignore the patriarch’s orders, defy the Watase Family Captain, and off Joryu?
And how ’bout the rest of ya? Go on, speak up.
Looks like yer all alone.

STEWARD
Now wait a second!

TSURUNO
It’s fine. Just watch yerself if yer gonna burn bridges with the Watase Family.
‘Cause if ya take it there, you’ll be lucky if ya get a swift death.
Or are ya gonna keep runnin’ yer punka*s mouth?
If so, ya got some serious stones. I’ll light some incense for ya at your funeral.
Know yer f*ckin’ place!

The STEWARD bends down to TSURUNO.

STEWARD
I’m sorry!

TSURUNO turns to KIRYU.

TSURUNO
Sorry ’bout that, Joryu. You can go now.
I’ll fill Patriarch Nishitani in on everything.

KIRYU walks to the helicopter, where AKAME is greeting him with a wave.

AKAME
Hey there, Joryu. Get more than ya bargained for?
Ya see all these stink eyes we’re gettin’?

KIRYU
Ignore them. Just get me outta here.
When Nishitani wakes up, it’s gonna get ugly.

AKAME
Always bringin’ the party everywhere ya go. Pretty impressive!

FADE OUT

AKAME’S OFFICE, SOTENBORI

A screenshot of Kiryu picking up the phone in the office.

KIRYU receives a phone call and picks up.

KIRYU
…Hello?

TSURUNO
(on Kiryu’s phone)
It’s Tsuruno.
Finally made it outta the Castle.

KIRYU
Yeah? What about Nishitani?

TSURUNO
He was like a cat in heat the moment he came to.
There’s no telling what he’d do to me if I’m not careful.
He told his goons to “find Joryu and bring him to me.” So you should be expectin’ company soon.

KIRYU
Nishitani won’t come himself? That’s not surprising.

TSURUNO
The current Kijin Clan doesn’t have their own turf. They’re a new kinda crew.
Question is, how’re we gonna get him off the ship?

KIRYU
I may have an idea.
Can you meet me at Sotenbori? And bring as much cash as you can wrangle up.

TSURUNO
How much we talkin’?

KIRYU
Definitely not 50 billion. Just as much as you can carry there yourself.

TSURUNO
I can have it ready by tomorrow. Where should I wait?

KIRYU
Let’s see… How about Bishamon Bridge? I’ll explain the rest there.

TSURUNO
Gotcha. I’ll be in touch as soon as I get the cash.

FADE OUT

The cutscene concludes with Kiryu contemplating whether to accept a request from Akame, as he awaits further contact from Tsuruno. Upon speaking with her, she will inform you that Mizorogi has been attacked and his shop has been looted. Mizorogi is injured, and Akame will summon a doctor to the scene. Kiryu should proceed without delay.

A screenshot of the in-game map that shows the location of Mizorogi's shop.

Go to Mizorogi’s shop to find out what’s happening. When you get there, you’ll see Mizorogi lying unconscious on the floor, with the old lady from the tobacco shop next to him. Akame will then arrive and inform Kiryu about a man in Sotenbori Park who needs assistance.

In the park, a group of people gathers around an unconscious man on the ground. They assume he’s a homeless man who was assaulted, but it’s actually a trap for Kiryu. The man on the floor is Patriarch Aotsuki from the Omi Alliance. He and his group, the yakuza whom Kiryu defeated in Chapter Two of the game, launch an attack against Kiryu. After being defeated, the Patriarch escapes with one of the fireworks cigarettes.

At Akame’s office, Mizorogi is still shaken. They all decide to be cautious from now on because those guys are still on the loose. After the conversation, rest on the couch until the next day.

CUTSCENE 2 – AKAME’S OFFICE, SOTENBORI

AKAME’S OFFICE – DAYTIME

At Akame’s office, AKAME and KIRYU talk.

AKAME
Mornin’, Joryu. Listen… Watch yer back if you go into town.
The Kinjin Clan’s lookin’ for ya. And they’re seriously p*ssed.

KIRYU
Yeah, I kind of figured. I’m not doing this for fun.
That said… I’m gonna have to raise a bit of hell.

AKAME
Huh? What’s that s’posed to mean?

KIRYU
It means I have to do what I have to do.

KIRYU is walking to the door.

AKAME
That ain’t mean much, either…

FADE OUT

After the cutscene in the Akame office, you don’t have to walk far to get the call from Tsuruno just when you walk out into the road.

CUTSCENE 3 – ROAD AT AKAME’S OFFICE, SOTENBORI

ROAD AT AKAME’S OFFICE – DAYTIME

KIRYU is getting a phone call from TSURUNO just outside Akame’s office.

TSURUNO
(through Kiryu’s phone)
It’s Tsuruno. Kiryu-san, I got the cash. I’ll be waitin’ for ya at Bishamon Bridge.

KIRYU
Okay. I’ll head over there now. See ya there.

FADE OUT

Tsuruno wants to meet you at Bishamon Bridge, which is the western bridge in Sotenbori.

CUTSCENE 4 – BISHAMON BRIDGE, SOTENBORI

BISHAMON BRIDGE, SOTENBORI – DAYTIME

TSURUNO is already waiting with the money as KIRYU arrives.

TSURUNO
Managed to scrounge up 30 million yen.
I wanted to get more, but it’s the best I could do on such short notice.

KIRYU
Plenty. Must’ve been tough. I owe you one.

TSURUNO
You are gonna tell me what it’s for, right?

KIRYU
I’m gonna use it to lure Nishitani out. He’s sent his Kijin Clan guys to find me.
So I’m gonna let him know where I am and what I’m up to. He won’t be able to resist showing his mug.

TSURUNO
Pokin’ the bear, huh?

KIRYU
The Kijin Clan’s most-wanted man living it up in Sotenbori instead of hiding in fear?
Gonna be a real blow to Nishitani’s ego.
Let’s see how long he stays covering in the Castle.

TSURUNO
But the Kijin Clan’s already out full force lookin’ for ya.
If ya keep kickin’ the hornet’s nest, Nishitani’ll gut ya for real.

KIRYU
Careful, Tsuruno. No one will think you’re enjoying Sotenbori if you keep talking like that.

TSURUNO
Wait… I’m comin’ with ya?

KIRYU
Heh, I can’t spend 30 million in one night all by myself.

TSURUNO
In one night…? All of it?

KIRYU
Didn’t you buy my life for 50 billion? What’s a little more?
You brought it for me, anyway. So let’s paint the town red.
As long as we get Nishitani’s attention.

TSURUNO
So that’s why ya wouldn’t tell me what the cash was for.
‘Cause if I’d known, I wouldn’t have busted my a*s to get 30 million.

KIRYU
You’ve committed now. No backing down.
Now for starters, let’s find the best women and booze in town. Where would that be?

TSURUNO
Well, sh*t… In that case, let’s go to Cabaret Grand.
Can burn through a fat wad o’cash no problem there!
I’ll invite Shishido along, too. You don’t mind, do ya?

Moments later, KIRYU and TSURUNO arrive in front of the Cabaret Grand.

KIRYU
Ah, I remember this place. Cabaret Grand.

TSURUNO
Ya heard of it?

KIRYU
Yeah, been here before. Definitely the best joint in Sotenbori.

They walk towards the entrance. Inside the club, they are led to a balcony, where Shishido is already sitting with a WOMAN.

SHISHIDO
Cap! Got started without ya!

TSURUNO
You ain’t ever this early when we meet up. That’s new.

KIRYU
Shishido.

SHISHIDO
Joryu. Thanks for lettin’ me join the party train.
So it’s all-ya-can-drink, I take it?

KIRYU
Yeah, go nuts tonight. You’ve earned it after the hell you’ve been through.

TSURUNO
You are gonna tell me what it’s for, right?

The CLUB OWNER arrives, and KIRYU hands him two bundles of banknotes.

KIRYU
The name’s Joryu. And I’d like a round for everyone here – on me.

CLUB OWNER
Huh!?

WOMAN
No way! That’s so cool!

KIRYU
I want everyone to have a good time tonight. I’ve got cash to burn.

CLUB OWNER
Yer kiddin’! Wowie… I mean, at your service, sir!
Joryu-sama, I promise you everyone at the Grand will get VIP treatment tonight.

The CLUB OWNER heads downstairs to make an announcement on stage.

CLUB OWNER
Sorry to interrupt all the fun, folks.
But Joryu-sama over there would like to buy a round of drinks for everyone here!
Let’s give him a big hand!

KIRYU is shouting down to everyone on the balcony.

KIRYU
The name’s Joryu! Let’s live it up tonight, Sotenbori!

CLUB OWNER
All right, Joryu-sama!

SHISHIDO
Cap… What’s with Kiryu-san?
He blowin’ off steam after layin’ low for so long?

TSURUNO
Yeah. Ain’t it obvious?

After the party in the Cabaret Grand, they head outside to have more fun in Sotenbori.

KIRYU
Get it now? I’m gonna make a scene like I did in there all over town.
We’ll have the Kijin Clan’s attention soon. Nishitani will get wind of it, too.

TSURUNO
Yeah, I s’pose yer right.

KIRYU
The more Kijin Clan guys we take out, the more impatient Nishitani’s gonna get.
He can’t rely on them forever.

SHISHIDO
Heh… I get what yer up to now. Crystal clear.
Well then, time’s a-wastin’! We gotta take in all the pleasures Sotenbori has to offer! Right, Cap?

TSURUNO
Yeah! ‘Nuff talk! Let’s do this!
Now I wanna… I wanna sing! Karaoke! Karaoke me right now!

SHISHIDO
I’ll get our guys movin’. One word and they’ll be here in a flash.

Soon, four men of the Watase Family arrive to join.

FADE OUT

After the cutscene, you regain control of Kiryu. Head to each mission marker on the map with your gang. There are two games where you can win 300,000 yen – Billiards and Golf. You’ll also unlock a new outfit that you can change into. The order of venues doesn’t matter. Prepare for occasional fights against Nishitani’s men. Finally, the night concludes at Akame’s office.

CUTSCENE 5 – AKAME’S OFFICE, SOTENBORI – THE NEXT MORNING

AKAME’S OFFICE – DAYTIME

KIRYU is getting a phone call from TSURUNO in Akame’s office.

TSURUNO
(through Kiryu’s phone)
It’s Tsuruno. Word is Nishitani’s left the Castle.
Looks like Operation Party Hardy was a success!

KIRYU
Great… so where’s Nishitani most likely headed after he leaves his ship?

TSURUNO
(through Kiryu’s phone)
If he’s after ya, best bet is Sotenbori. But where exactly is anyone’s guess.

KIRYU
Right.

TSURUNO
(through Kiryu’s phone)
I’ll look into trackin’ him down.
But who the hell knows what’ll go down once he leaves the Castle.
Feel bad for him, but he’s gotta be put outta action for a bit. Talk to ya later.

AKAME calls KIRYU over.

AKAME
Hey, Joryu! Just got some info that has to do with you.

KIRYU
Hm?

AKAME
Word is some men from the Kijin Clan stormed into Cabaret Grand thirsty for blood.
Kept shoutin’, “Hand over Joryu, now!”

KIRYU
That’s not good. I hate that I dragged the club into this mess.

AKAME
Well, my network’s useful, ain’t it?

KIRYU
That it is. So how many men did the Kijin Clan send?

AKAME
Twenty to thirty, from what I heard.

KIRYU
That’s a lot of guys. Guess I better do something. Okay, thanks, Akame.

FADE OUT

After the cutscene, head to the Cabaret Grand. It’s in the northwestern corner of the map. There are only two Kijin Clan members at the entrance, which shouldn’t be a big issue.

It’s more what awaits inside: A big group of Kijin with three bosses. Defeat them all to continue with the story.

CUTSCENE 6 – DEFEATED THE KIJIN CLAN MEMBERS AT THE GRAND.

CABARET GRAND – DAYTIME

KIRYU has defeated all the KIJIN Clan members.

KIRYU
Unless you want to be beaten to hell and back, I’d stay down.

KIJIN MEMBER
Ngn… Damn you!

KIRYU
Where is Nishitani? We know he left the Castle.

KIJIN MEMBER
Heh. The Kijin Clan operates in the shadows. That what we do best.

KIRYU
I take it you haven’t been told where your boss is.

KIJIN MEMBER
That’s right! None of us know. And we wouldn’t tell ya even if we did!

KIRYU
So you’re saying your boss doesn’t trust you? Not exactly something to brag about.

The CLUB OWNER enters the scene.

CLUB OWNER
You mean… You guys are at the bottom of the sh*t barrel!?
You’ve gotta be f*ckin’ kiddin’ me!
We don’t appreciate punks like you messin’ up our joint!
Now tell me, how ya gonna fix this sh*t!?

KIRYU
You’re…

The CLUB OWNER notices KIRYU and walks to him.

CLUB OWNER
Joryu-sama! You saved the day!
These jerks busted in and basically took us prisoner!
The girls were scared outta their wits!

KIRYU
Actually, I owe you an apology; this was my fault. I’ll pay you for the trouble.

CLUB OWNER
What!?
If anyone’s gonna pay, it should be them. They’re obviously the ones responsible!

HANAWA enters the club and approaches from behind.

HANAWA
I’m not so sure about that.

KIRYU
Hanawa…?

HANAWA
Joryu may not have foreseen the damage to this place.
But the fault rests squarely on his shoulders. Rest assured, I will cover all your losses.
All I need is an estimate of the damages.

CLUB OWNER
Don’t know who ya are or where ya came from, but we gladly accept!

HANAWA
My name is Hanawa. A pleasure to meet you.

CLUB OWNER
Hanawa-sama! Very much obliged!

FADE OUT

OUTSIDE CABARET GRAND – DAYTIME

KIRYU and HANAWA continue their conversation outside of Cabaret Grand.

HANAWA
You really don’t appreciate your position, do you? You’ve been sticking out like a sore thumb.

KIRYU
It’s a 50-billion-yen job, after all. Wouldn’t be a good look if I cut corners.

HANAWA
Everything was going well enough until Nishitani left the Castle…
But your plan’s hit a dead end now, hasn’t it?

KIRYU
You could say that.

HANAWA
In fact, the situation is even worse now. Nishitani can strike anytime, anywhere.
He’s a natural-born killer. Once he targets you, it’s already too late. It’s one of his more terrifying qualities.
It may seem like you’ve made progress, but haven’t you actually put yourself in great danger?

KIRYU
Did you come all this way just to bust my chops?

HANAWA
This enemy is an exceptionally powerful organization, even among Omi Alliance members.
Even I’ve heard of the Kijin Clan.
It’s only natural for Watase to be wary of them. For you to take them on alone is suicide.

KIRYU
Not if I knew where Nishitani was.

HANAWA
Then put yourself in his shoes. What would your next move be if you were him?
Or better yet, consider what would hurt him the most.
Figure out that, and you’ll have him in the palm of your hand.
A little pressure can draw out even the most elusive of enemies.

KIRYU
Hit him where it hurts, huh? I think I get it.

HANAWA
Heh. Giving advice like this to a yakuza feels like preaching to the Buddha.
I’ll take care of the payment for the damages done here.
I need you to focus on that 50-billion-yen job of yours.

HANAWA is walking away, KIRYU calls TSURUNO.

TSURUNO
(through Kiryu’s phone)
Tsuruno here. What’s up, Kiryu-san?

KIRYU
Seems last we didn’t push Nishitani’s buttons hard enough last night.
We’ve gotta hit him where it really hurts.

TSURUNO
So ya got a plan?

KIRYU
We’re taking away the thing he treasures most… The Castle.

TSURUNO
…We’re what?

KIRYU
Round up as many Watase Family soldiers as you can, then send them over. I’m about to leave right now.
Now that Nishitani’s off the boat, the Castle won’t be as heavily guarded.

TSURUNO
So you’re sayin’ Yer gonna take it over?

KIRYU
That’s right. By force.

TSURUNO
Whoa, wait a sec!
That’d mean war between the Watase Family and the Kijin Clan.
My plan was to rough up the patriarch so it wouldn’t come to that
!

KIRYU
I know. Just have your men wear masks or something.
Worked well during the raid on Daidoji down at the docks, didn’t it?

TSURUNO
Sure, but we’re talkin’ ’bout fellow Omi Alliance members here.
Ain’t that a bit too ballsy?

KIRYU
Your call, Tsuruno. Make up your mind before I get to the Castle.
I’m not wasting any more time here. I’ll do this alone if I have to.

TSURUNO
All right, all right, fine! I am the goddamn Watase Family captain, so…
Consider my mind made up. We’ll head for the Castle now.

KIRYU
That’s what I wanted to hear. See you there.

FADE OUT

After the cutscene, head back to Akame’s office to travel to the Castle.

CUTSCENE 7 – THE CASTLE TAKEOVER

THE CASTLE – NIGHT

KIRYU, TSURUNO (with mask), SHISHIDO (with mask), and some other Watase Family members with masks enter The Castle forcefully.

KIRYU
Tsuruno.

TSURUNO
Yo.

KIRYU
Not as much muscle as I expected you to bring.

TSURUNO
The rest won’t be long. Why don’t we wait?

KIRYU
No, security’s pretty light. We have enough to take them.

The camera is zooming out to a large group of stewards heading their way.

TSURUNO
I dunno, it ain’t lookin’ so light to me.

STEWARD
Joryu! What took ya so long? Brought some friends, did ya?
Well, get ready for the full Castle experience!

SHISHIDO
Heh. His sh*t-talkin’ ain’t half bad. This is how a raid oughta be.

KIRYU
Yeah, looks like they’re raring to go, too. Let’s do this!

FADE OUT

Defeat all the Kihin Clan members on the Castle to advance with the story. There are two bosses among the group Kitahara and Katagiri. The fight ends with Kiryu sitting on the Castle balcony, looking down.

CUTSCENE 8 – THE CASTLE BELONGS TO KIRYU

THE CASTLE – NIGHT

KIRYU, TSURUNO, and SHISHIDO on the Castle’s balcony.

SHISHIDO
Kiryu-san, we took control of the ship. The Castle’s ours!
We can take this baby wherever we want, whenever we want.

TSURUNO
We can, but should we?
Things go south, and it could get real ugly on there.

KIRYU
That’s the plan. Nishitani needs to know the score.
Let him know he’ll lose his toy if he keeps himself holed up.

SHISHIDO
Then I’ll go tell the captain to get this sucker movin’.

FADE OUT

SOME NEWS CHANNEL

A news report on television shows a picture of an “Unregistered Container Ship” – The Castle. The NEWS REPORTER appears.

NEWS REPORTER
In other news, a seemingly unregistered container ship has entered Osaka Bay.
The Japan Coast Guard’s repeated attempts to hail the ship were ignored.
Approximately one hour later, it returned to sea and disappeared.
The ship is thought to be one of the largest of its kind.
Amazingly, there seems to be a castle-like structure on the ship’s bridge.
There appear to be other buildings on its deck too, all of which are brightly lit.
The Japan Coast Guard considers the unregistered vessel a potential safety threat to domestic shipping routes.
Further plans to investigate this incident are underway.

FADE OUT

THE CASTLE – NIGHT

KIRYU, TSURUNO, and SHISHIDO on the Castle’s balcony. KIRYU is receiving a phone call.

HANAWA
(through Kiryu’s phone)
It’s Hanawa.
I’ve leaked the video of the Castle to the press, as requested.

KIRYU
Good. Thanks for the quick work.
The Kijin Clan’s patriarch must’ve gotten word of it by now.

HANAWA
Savvy move, I’d say. I doubt Nishitani will take this lying down.
He loses everything if the Castle is exposed to the world.
That news report should’ve been a sufficient warning.
The question is, what’s his next move?

KIRYU
I bet he’ll try to get in touch with me.
And he knows he can always reach me through Tsuruno.

HANAWA
You yakuza really know how to push people’s buttons.
Keep me posted if anything else happens. Until then.

In the background, TSURUNO receives a phone call.

TSURUNO
(on the phone)
Tsuruno. Ah, Patriarch Nishitani.
Yeah, just heard it on the news.
Still hard to figure, the Castle bein’ hijacked… It’s just unbelievable.
What? Joryu? He hijacked it? That’s crazy!

KIRYU gets up and walks to TSURUNO.

TSURUNO
(on the phone)
Sure, I partied with him in Sotenbori, but I was just showin’ him a good time.
Yeah… ‘Course, I’ll get in touch with him.
Right. I’ll have him call ya.
Okay, got it. Bye then.

TSURUNO
(to Kiryu)
In case ya didn’t hear, that was Patriarch Nishitani on the phone.

KIRYU
He doesn’t suspect you were in on it?

TSURUNO
Heh. How could he not?
But he can’t figure out why a fellow Omi Alliance member would do somethin’ like this.
So I gotta be careful ’bout what I say while the situation’s still messy.

KIRYU
In that case, let’s wrap this up quick.
We need to take Nishitani down before he figures out you and I are in cahoots.
We screw this up, and it’s war between the Watase Family and Kijin Clan.
And the plan to dissolve dies with it…

TSURUNO
Yeah… ‘Fraid that’s exactly right.

FADE OUT

THE CASTLE – NIGHT

Later that night, KIRYU calls NISHITANI while standing at the Castle’s pool.

NISHITANI
(through Kiryu’s phone)
What took so long… Kiryu-san?

KIRYU
The name’s Joryu.
And it took so long because I had to snap a photo for you first.

NISHITANI
(through Kiryu’s phone)
What photo?

KIRYU
Sending it now.

KIRYU is sending him a photo of him and the Castle’s girls.

KIRYU
She’s a fine vessel. Be a shame if the cops seized her.

Somewhere in his hideout, NISHITANI is looking at the photo that KIRYU has sent.

NISHITANI
What is this!?
The f*ck!? What’re you trying to pull, a*shole!?

KIRYU
(through Nishitani’s phone)
You’re the one who started this.
None of this would’ve happened if you hadn’t screwed with me.

NISHITANI
Drop the act already…
Why don’t you start by telling me what the supposedly departed Kazuma Kiryu is doing on an Omi ship?
And don’t tell me you’re just having a little fun. I’m not buying that sh*t.
Tsuruno and Shishido are in on this, aren’t they? Well!? Out with it!

KIRYU
(through Nishitani’s phone)
Shouting into your phone isn’t scaring anyone, Patriarch.

NISHITANI
Is that right? Fine. Then how about you come on by?

KIRYU
Finally. I thought you’d never ask.

NISHITANI
(through Kiryu’s phone)
Know the Golf Center in Sotenbori?
Be there tomorrow. I’ll send my captain over to get you.

KIRYU
Not coming yourself?

NISHITANI
Come quietly with my captain, and I’ll meet with you.
I won’t be satisfied till I personally put a knife through your skull.
I can hardly wait… Kiryu-san.

FADE OUT

After the cutscene, it is clear that Kiryu has to meet with Nishitani. Head back to the helicopter and you will be stopped by the fight receptionist, who tells you that he was sent by the Castle’s Four Kings. With Patriarch Nishitani gone, they are not sure if Kiryu is suited enough to manage the Castle. He has to prove that he’s stronger than all for Kings together – wonder what that means?

One of the four kings, Dan Brody – the Clown – arrives and challenges Kiryu here and now. To continue with the story you have to defeat him. But then, soon after his defeat, the other three kings arrive. They tell him that in order to fight with them he first has to work his rank up properly. Differences will be settled in the arena.

Now you can return to Akame’s Office at Sotenbori and sleep on the couch ’til the next evening. The golf center is at the mission marker in the center north of the map. A cutscene starts when you’re near enough.

CUTSCENE 9 – MEETING NISHITANI AT THE GOLF CENTER

THE GOLF CENTER, SOTINBORI – NIGHT

KIRYU arrives at the Golf Center. He’s surrounded by Kijin Clan Members in no time.

KIRYU
A Kijin Clan welcoming party, eh?
I was told your captain would be coming.

A man, the captain, exits the Golf Center with another group of Kijin members.

CAPTAIN
Yer lookin’ at him. I know we just met, but this is goodbye.

KIRYU
On Nishitani’s orders?
I thought he wanted to do it himself.

CAPTAIN
Even if he does, we can’t allow it. He’s a high-rankin’ Omi Alliance officer.
Way too risky leavin’ ya to him. Ain’t that right…
…Kazuma Kiryu?

KIRYU
That man is already dead.

CAPTAIN
Then we’ll kill ya again until ya stay dead!

All the members of the Kijini Clan prepare for battle. Suddenly, a black car speeds down the road and comes to a stop next to the group. SHISHIDO, wearing a mask, steps out of the car, carrying a massive hammer.

CAPTAIN
Who the hell’re you!?

SHISHIDO enters the scene by defeating two members of the Kijin Clan with a powerful smash.

KIRYU
How’d you know I’d be here?

SHISHIDO
We cast a pretty wide net ’round Osaka.
These Kijin Clan soldiers came from a place, let’s say, near the bay.
Better believe Patriarch Nishitani’s there, too.

KIRYU
Hey wait. If that’s the case, let’s just take the car and get the hell out of here.

SHISHIDO
Aw, c’mon. Let’s warm up with those b*tches first!

CAPTAIN
You… Who the hell’re ya callin’ a b*tch!?

FADE OUT

After the cutscene at the golf center, defeat all the Kijin Clan members to continue with the main story.

CUTSCENE 10 – GOLF CENTER KIJIN MEMBERS DEFEATED

THE GOLF CENTER, SOTINBORI – NIGHT

KIRYU and SHISHIDO have defeated the Kijin Clan members at the Golf Center.

SHISHIDO
Sh*t, we make a pretty good team. Who’d have thought?

KIRYU
Was this a good idea?
Roughing up Kijin Clan members for all to see?

SHISHIDO
Well, that’s why I got this mask.
And besides, once we crush Patriarch Nishitani, no one can say sh*t ’bout us.
We just gotta do it quick. You ‘n me.

KIRYU
What does Tsuruno think about this?

SHISHIDO
The Cap’s the one who tracked down Nishitani and sent me here.
Said, “Today’s the day we put a stop to Nishitani.” Gotta do it before he takes off again.

KIRYU
…Right.

SHISHIDO
Heh… Now let’s beat his a*s.
I’m ready to roll. Get in when yer ready.

FADE OUT

You’re now playing as Kiryu again. It’s not necessary to get into the car straight away. So you can take your time to go shopping or have something to eat after the fight. Interact with Shishido when ready.

CUTSCENE 11 – DRIVING TO NISHITANI

IN THE DRIVING CAR – NIGHT

KIRYU and SHISHIDO are sitting in the car. SHISHIDO is driving.

SHISHIDO
By the way, Kiryu-san. Did ya hear about Patriarch Nishitani?
He got his start in the Jingweon Mafia.

KIRYU
He did?

SHISHIDO
He’s one o’the few survivors of that Korean gang the Tojo Clan crushed a buncha times.
The other members all split off, and Nishitani covered up his past. He’s Japanese now, least as far as everyone thinks.
He worked his way up with his trademark grit and brutality before revealing his true identity to the organization.
Figure no Omi members had the balls to say sh*t about it. Sure as hell couldn’t say a word to the Kihin Clan patriarch’s face.
Don’t matter where yer from, the top yakuza in Japan only gets there by bein’ the strongest.

KIRYU
Why tell me all this?

SHISHIDO
Yer one of many that’ve beat down the Jingweon Mafia, ain’t ya?
No doubt the patriarch’s flippin’ his sh*t ’cause he knows yer the Dragon of Dojima.
Doubt he’ll ever get over his grudge even if he killed ya a hundred times.
Bet you got plenty more comin’ after ya, too.

KIRYU
Then I’ll die as many times as I have to.

SHISHIDO
Also so you can protect those scamps in Okinawa, huh?

KIRYU
They’ve got nothing to do with you. Leave them out of this.

SHISHIDO
Heh, my bad. Guess we’re not as good of a team as I thought.

FADE OUT

SOMEWHERE AT A WAREHOUSE – NIGHT

KIRYU and SHISHIDO arrive at a warehouse and exit the car to look at the building.

SHISHIDO
The Kijin Clan’s hideout is at the back of the warehouse.
Used to be managed by an Omi Alliance front.

KIRYU
So you’ve been here before then? If you’ve got a plan, spit it out already.

SHISHIDO
Heh. Neither of us like the runaround, do we?
Patriarch Nishitani’s office is up there on the top floor.
Plan is we bust in the front, smack down any fools in our way,
then beat the patriarch to an inch of his life.

We’ll wing the rest.

Kijin Clan members arrive to try to stop the two.

KIRYU
Not a bad plan. But you sure you wanna do this?
Wasn’t Nishitani the model Kansai yakuza in your eyes?

SHISHIDO
Gotta go above and beyond the ones ya look up to. That’s real maturity.
Can’t stay a starry-eyed kid forever.

KIRYU
If we weren’t about to get our hands dirty, that’d almost sound poetic.

The camera fades away and shows NISHITANI watching the scene on a laptop in his office.

NISHITANI
Heh… What took you so long, Kiryu?
Can’t remember the last time someone f*cked me this hard. Next time, I’m going straight for the jugular!

Back at the fighting scene with KIRYU and SHISHIDO…

SHISHIDO
Better make this worth our while, Kijin Clan. Ain’t that right, Joryu?

KIRYU
Yeah, now let’s do this!

FADE OUT

After the cutscene, you have to keep defeating the Kinjin Clan members while going up to the office where Nishitani is waiting for the end fight.

CUTSCENE 12 – WAREHOUSE TOP FLOOR

NISHITANI WAREHOUSE – NIGHT

KIRYU and SHISHIDO have arrived on the top floor, where KIRYU notices the building being on fire.

KIRYU
Shishido, the building’s on fire!

SHISHIDO
Watase Family associates are torchin’ the place on Tsuruno’s orders.

KIRYU
Tsuruno? He’s here, too?

SHISHIDO
Not the time. We got a job to finish before the place burns down.

SHISHIDO and KIRYU enter NISHITANI’s office. He’s already waiting for them.

NISHITANI
Been waiting for you two.
Heh, you in the Hannya mask… Did you really think you’d fool me? Huh, Shishido?

SHISHIDO is taking off his mask.

SHISHIDO
Guess nothin’ gets by you.

NISHITANI
What is it you two are after?
What do you get out of the Omi tearing itself apart from the inside?

SHISHIDO
What do we get? Well, the Castle was a nice, shiny prize.
Cap’n Tsuruno was mighty pleased, too.

NISHITANI
Hah. But that wasn’t the goal, was it? It can’t be the money, the Watase Family’s already raking it in.
What’s so important that you’d sour things with the Kijin Clan?
And I know it doesn’t have sh*t to do with Kazuma Kiryu being alive either.
Right, Kiryu? Enough with the charade.
Come. Show me your whole face.

KIRYU is taking off his glasses.

NISHITANI
I knew it! The Dragon of Dojima!
Well, f*ck! Wish I could’ve bashed your head in while you were still in your prime!

KIRYU
He’s mine, Shishido. You stay out of this.

SHISHIDO
You got it. Show me how it’s done.

NISHITANI
So what the hell are you to him anyway, Shishido?
I take it Tsuruno’s in on this too. Even the Watase Family’s captain agreed to this sh*t?

KIRYU
Does it really matter now?

NISHITANI
Huh?

KIRYU
I’m about to beat you to a bloody pulp.
Nothing personal. It’s just a job. Besides…
Our last brawl left a bad taste in both our mouths, right?
You don’t seem to think you lost to me, and now you think you can win.
So, this still needs to be settled.

NISHITANI
Yeah, you’re right. Heh… None of that other sh*t matters now.
The only thing I wanna hear is you two screaming in pain.
Come, moan like never before!

FADE OUT

After the cutscene with Nishitani in the office, you have to defeat him for the story to continue.

CUTSCENE 13 – NISHITANI DEFEATED

NISHITANI WAREHOUSE – NIGHT

KIRYU has defeated NISHITANI. He’s lying beaten and unconscious on the floor. SHISHIDO found the emergency exit door.

SHISHIDO
Kiryu-san! We can get out this way!

KIRYU
All right, gimme a hand. We’re taking Nishitani with us!

SHISHIDO
Who knows who ya are now.
And he’s Jingweon Mafia. He ain’t bygones be bygones.

KIRYU
Shut up and help me!

SHISHIDO
Damn it!

SHISHIDO runs to KIRYU to help him carry NISHITANI to the fire escape.

SHISHIDO
The fire escape’s that way! Hold the door open. I got Nishitani!

KIRYU releases NISHITANI and opens the fire escape door. He places a brick to prevent the door from closing. As he looks back to return to SHISHIDO he sees him stabing NISHITANI on the floor various times.

KIRYU
Huh?

SHISHIDO
That oughta do it!

KIRYU
(almost in shock)
What did you do!?

SHISHIDO
Why let ‘im live? Much easier if he’s dead.

KIRYU
What about Tsuruno!?

SHISHIDO
Stop yer yappin’! What’s done is done!
Besides, Cap’n Tsuruno knows everything.

KIRYU
What did you just say?

The fire grew more intense. The entire room is now engulfed in flames. SHISHIDO quickly exits through the fire escape, followed closely by KIRYU who glances back one last time at NISHITANI’s lifeless body before escaping as well.

They meet TSURUNO outside on ground level.

KIRYU
Tsuruno… You bastard!
You were planning to kill Nishitani all along?
Why? There was no need to go so far!

TSURUNO
‘Fraid I disagree. He had to die.
And he wasn’t worth sparin’. Nishitani, he…

KIRYU
What?

TSURUNO
A long while back, a young soldier ditched the family. He’d worked under me.
Kid was a troublemaker, former bike gang member. Only 20 years old at the time.
Leavin’ the family without permission is a major offense. And goin’ too easy on him woulda set a bad precedent.
But he was still a kid. So I pretended to look for him all the while plannin’ to let it slide.

KIRYU
What happened…?

TSURUNO
Nishitani said, “He’s gotta pay.” Took it on himself to track the kid down.
It wasn’t even his family. He just heard about it from someone.
No doubt it was all done to impress my boss.
Everyone knew I planned to let it slide.
And by the time I heard the news and raced over…
His fingernails had been ripped out, his nose sliced off. There were cauterized cuts all over his belly…
It was the end of Nishitani’s signature torture routine.
Kid was beyond savin’. For his finale, Nishitani buries ’em alive up in the mountains.
That’s why I…
I put him outta his misery with a bullet to the head… The kid suffered enough.

SHISHIDO
The patriarch’s tormented me plenty.
In the Kijin Clan’s coliseum, the losers and weaklings get pulled aside.
Then the patriarch gives ’em the full routine just the way Cap described.
That’s why ya had to do whatever it took to survive.
That’s why I already regret what I just did. He got off too easy.
Shoulda taken my time before sendin’ him to hell.

TSURUNO
I agreed the second I heard the boss wanted to disband the yakuza.
But not for the higher-ups’ tortured reasonin’.
There’re other reasons why the yakuza need to die out.
Be better if we disappeared than give monsters like Nishitani a chance to have their way.

KIRYU
All this would’ve been more convincing if you hadn’t just tricked me into being an accomplice to murder.
…Maybe monsters like us need to disappear too.
We may act like we’re better than the rest, but our sh*t stinks just as bad.

SHISHIDO
Anyways, well done, boys!
We destroyed the head of the Kijin Clan.
Now we wait for our boss to be released… Ain’t that right!?

CLAN MEMBERS
F*ck yeah!

The camera reveals NISHITANI’s fiery office, then pans down to where his body should be. However, it is nowhere to be found.

FADE OUT
