This is the complete step-by-step walkthrough of Chapter 2: Castle on the Water – Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
Chapter 2 starts right after the meeting with Tsuruno in the Survive bar in Chapter 1.
CUTSCENE 1 – RURAL SETTLEMENT NEAR THE SEA
A NICE RURAL SETTLEMENT NEAR THE SEA – DAYTIME
There is hectic activity in a house near the seaside.
FEMALE VOICE
You guys ready to leave yet? We’ve still gotta buy flowers!
MAN
Ayako, where’s my clothes!?
WOMAN
I told you, I don’t know. Come on, you’re not Haruto.
A woman in a pink shirt and black hair is at the outside porch, while a child approaches her from the back.
WOMAN
All right, now.
Time to go, Haruto.
FADE OUT
SURVIVE BAR – NIGHT
KIRYU and TSURUNO are still sitting at the same table, discussing.
TSURUNO
You’re about to die and come back to life again… Kiryu-san.
If ya agree to come with us, the reward will be considerable.
You can put that guarantee on the Watase Family name.
KIRYU
But for that to happen… you’re saying Hanawa needs to die.
TSURUNO
Yep. So, here’s my plan.
First, I’ll dredge up a corpse with a build like yers.
When the Daidoji find it next to Hanawa-san, they’ll think it’s you.
Publicly, both bodies will be declared unidentified.
KIRYU
A corpse with a build like mine? You find those lying around often?
TSURUNO
Don’t underestimate the Omi. Sh*t like that’s a piece of cake.
We’ve even got a coroner in the loop. This time, it’ll be us outwittin’ the Daidoji.
KIRYU
I see. Sounds like a solid plan.
TSURUNO
Now we’re speakin’ the same language.
KIRYU
Sure. We would be if I were actually Kazuma Kiryu.
TSURUNO
You still goin’ on about that!?
KIRYU
Let Hanawa go. That’s the only reason I came here.
TSURUNO
Kiryu-san!
KIRYU
I told you, you’ve got the wrong guy.
TSURUNO
Well, sittin’ here starin’ at each other’s gettin’ us nowhere.
TSURUNO places a keychain in the form of a red tiger on the table.
KIRYU
What’s that supposed to be?
TSURUNO
Just what it looks like. A red tiger.
KIRYU
Yeah, and I’m asking you what it means.
TSURUNO
There’s someone in charge of the homeless in Osaka’s Sotenbori. Name’s Akame.
I want ya to find them and show ’em this.
Nanawa-san is bein’ taken there as we speak.
It’ll serve as a clue to help in yer pursuit.
KIRYU
Why are you doing this?
TSURUNO
‘Cause the boss’s the only one vouchin’ for ya. Rest of us aren’t so convinced.
Why should I go to all the trouble of bringin’ ya into the fold?
We’re damn near gettin’ tired of waitin’ for ya to prove yerself.
KIRYU
You should’ve realized from the start. I told you, I’m not –
TSURUNO holds his phone up and shows an image of HANAWA.
TSURUNO
You say yer not Kazuma Kiryu one more time, and Hanawa gets it.
I’ll leave ya to make yer own way to Sotenbori.
Bring anyone else, and negotiations are over. Ya can bet you’ll never see us again.
KIRYU picks up the red tiger.
KIRYU
So show the tiger to this Akame guy, and then what?
TSURUNO
Go n’ see for yerself.
Akame’s territory is on the south side of the Sotenbori River.
Ask around there and someone’s bound to know.
That’s all I feel like tellin’ ya.
KIRYU
Is this a game to you?
TSURUNO
If the Dragon of Dojima is truly as men say, then he’ll find answers soon ‘nough.
And if he ain’t, then I guess this all’s a waste o’time.
It’s up to you if ya wanna leave
Hanawa-san hangin’ – literally. Do what ya want.
TSURUNO gets up and leaves. KIRYU is looking at the red tiger in his hand.
FADE OUT
OUTSIDE SURVIVE BAR – NIGHT
KIRYU left Survive bar to make a phone call outside, as Joryu to the MONK
MONK
Hello?
KIRYU
Hello. It’s me… Joryu.
MONK
I’ve been waiting to hear from you. Any update on Hanawa-san?
KIRYU
He’s still a hostage. Somewhere in Sotenbori. On Omi turf. I’m headed there now.
MONK
Very well. What can I do from here?
KIRYU
If you don’t hear from me in the next three days, pass that info to the Daidoji.
It’ll mean I’ve failed to save Hanawa.
His life will be in your hands.
MONK
Will it? I can’t imagine the Daidoji will rush in to save you two.
KIRYU
I know. I just figured someone should tell them.
Because if I die… then Hanawa’s whereabouts die with me.
MONK
Very well. I appreciate your consideration.
KIRYU walks away.
FADE OUT
SOTENBORI, OSAKA – NIGHT
KIRYU walking the vibrant street of Sotenbori.
KIRYU
(thinking)
First off, gotta find Akame. Tsuruno mentioned the south side of the Sotenbori River.
FADE OUT
1 – FIND AKAME
After arriving at Sotenbori, Osaka, Kiryu will get three yellow mission markers on the in-game map:
The person to the very left – the third person in my case – will give you the best advice and the next mission marker. But let’s go through them one by one.
The first person to talk to is standing next to a tall whiteboard.
CUTSCENE 2 – SOTENBORI – LOOKING FOR AKAME 1
SOTENBORI ALLEY – NIGHT
KIRYU in the brightly lit road at Sotenbori talking to a MAN to ask for AKAME.
KIRYU
Excuse me. Any chance you know someone called Akame?
MAN
Akame? I dunno, buddy. Who’s askin’?
KIRYU
I don’t mean any trouble.
MAN
Says the guy wearin’ sunglasses at night.
KIRYU
Oh, these are…
MAN
Haha, just givin’ ya a hard time.
If yer lookin’ fer Akame, ask one of the homeless.
Should be some around there.
FADE OUT
After the conversation with the man at the first mission marker, head to the second marker. It’s a homeless person with a blue hat and talk to them.
CUTSCENE 3 – SOTENBORI – LOOKING FOR AKAME 2
SOTENBORI ALLEY – NIGHT
KIRYU in a darker alley at Sotenbori talking to a MAN to ask for AKAME.
KIRYU
Hey, excuse me. I’m looking for someone called Akame.
MAN
That so? Well, Akame’s always strollin’ round these parts. Not today, though.
KIRYU
Can you tell me what they’re like?
MAN
If Akame hears I’ve been babblin’ to a stranger, I’ll be in the doghouse fer sure.
If ya want details, yer better off askin’ someone else.
FADE OUT
This man doesn’t want to talk. So, now it’s time to head to the last mission marker. It’s a man sitting on the floor to the right, not far away from the previous location. Talk to him as well.
CUTSCENE 3 – SOTENBORI – LOOKING FOR AKAME 3
SOTENBORI ALLEY – NIGHT
KIRYU in a darker alley at Sotenbori talking to a MAN sitting on the floor to ask for AKAME.
KIRYU
Hey, do you know Akame?
MAN
Akame-san? Yeah. Now that you mention it…
I saw Akame-san headin’ to the parkin’ lot. Might catch up if ya hurry!
KIRYU
How do I recognize him? Who is he?
MAN
You’ll know when ya get there, man. Better hurry, though!
FADE OUT
The third person will provide the location of a parking lot in the southwest corner of the map. Once you arrive, you encounter a group of thugs…
CUTSCENE 4 – SOTENBORI – LOOKING FOR AKAME 4
SOTENBORI PARKING LOT – NIGHT
KIRYU arrives in the parking lot, about to talk to the group of THUGS.
THUGS
Huh? What gives, ya old goat?
KIRYU
I’m looking for someone named Akame. Know anything?
THUGS
What business ya got with Akame-san?
KIRYU
Beats me.
THUGS
Eh? What kinda dumbsh*t answer is that!?
KIRYU
I’m not trying to be rude. I was told to find Akame and show them this.
KIRYU takes out the red tiger keychain and shows it to them.
THUGS
Ah… Hold it, old man, that’s…!
KIRYU
It’s what?
THUGS
No way. Ya really don’t know? Now that’s priceless.
KIRYU
So, can you help me out? I’m searching for a friend that’s been kidnapped.
This thing’s my only lead.
The THUGS are starting to surround KIRYU.
THUGS
Not much good to ya if you don’t even know whatcha got.
Maybe my crew n’ I should take it off yer hands? How ’bout it?
KIRYU
Oh. Seems I picked the wrong person to ask.
KIRYU is putting away the red tiger.
THUGS
Ya look pretty calm, old geezer. Sure yer not scared sh*tless?
KIRYU
Enough. I don’t want to use force.
THUGS
Yeah yeah, ya demented coot! Hand it over while I’m still askin’ nicely!
KIRYU
I warned you.
KIRYU getting ready to fight.
THUGS
That’s my line, limp-d*ck!
FADE OUT
After talking to the thugs in the parking lot, you have to defeat them all.
CUTSCENE 5 – SOTENBORI – AFTER THE FIGHT
SOTENBORI PARKING LOT – NIGHT
KIRYU grabs one of the THUGS which is now lying on the floor.
KIRYU
You’re testing my patience. Take me to Akame.
A WOMAN with read hair and jacket – AKAME – is interrupting them.
AKAME
Alright, quit the d*ck measuring.
Haven’t seen you before. Ya got guts comin’ to Sotenbori.
And all by yer lonesome too. Must be tough sh*t.
Heh. Aren’t you the one who’s lookin’ for me?
KIRYU is looking up at her.
KIRYU
So you’re Akame?
AKAME
Last I checked. Would ya mind not gawkin’ at me?
KIRYU
I was told you’re in charge of the homeless around here.
AKAME
Gotta say, you’re not what I expected.
Hey now, that’s not the only thing I do. Call me jack-of-all-trades.
Fixer or informant – you name it. It all depends on the client.
Hey, ya ever gonna let the poor guy go…?
KIRYU lets go of the thug and gets up. The THUGS quickly disappear.
AKAME
So? Whaddaya want from me?
She’s walking to KIRYU, who’s showing her the red tiger keychain.
AKAME
Well, well… A red tiger. So yer a guest of the Watase Family?
KIRYU
Yes. A man named Tsuruno told me to show this to you.
AKAME
Ah, I get it now. Okay, how ’bout ya come with me then?
KIRYU
Wait. I never said I was on board.
Do you work for Tsuruno? As a lackey or something?
AKAME
No way, not me.
Tsuruno-san and I’ve never met in person. Our relationship is strictly business.
KIRYU
Huh? Then what about Hanawa?
AKAME
Hanawa? Who the hell’s that?
KIRYU
Are you serious?
(Thinking)
Should I assume this Amae chick has no clue where Hanawa is?
Then why the hell did Tsuruno send me here to meet her?
AKAME
Dunno what ya expected, buddy, but just leave it to me. C’mon.
KIRYU
I try not to make a habit of following suspicious people.
AKAME
I’m not yakuza, ya know?
KIRYU
That still doesn’t mean I can trust you.
AKAME
Welp, you might have a point there. By the way…
What should I call ya?
KIRYU
So, Tsuruno really didn’t tell you a thing.
AKAME
Nah, nothin’. All I know is whoever turns up with a red tiger is in for some hospitality.
So, that means yer clueless too?
KIRYU
Yeah. What do you mean by hospitality?
AKAME
Hmm… I think it’ll be more fun as a surprise.
That tiger is an access pass to a… very unique venue.
Actually, we can’t head there just yet. So, cool yer jets.
KIRYU
It’s Joryu.
AKAME
Hm?
KIRYU
You can call me Joryu.
AKAME
Well, as ya already know, I’m Akame. Anyway, let’s move, Joryu.
KIRYU
Sure.
FADE OUT
AN ALLEY SOMEWHERE IN SOTENBORI – NIGHT
KIRYU is following AKAME to a red door somewhere in an alley of Sotenbori.
KIRYU
This is…?
AKAME
My office. Typically off-limits, but yer our special guest, so enjoy this red-tiger-welcome!
KIRYU
This… is an office?
AKAME
Bit of a dump, right?
This used to be a warehouse for a cabaret club called Odyssey.
AKAME approaches the door and is leaning towards a little box next to it for a retina scan. The door opens.
AKAME
Now… Well, it serves its purpose.
KIRYU
A retinal scanner
AKAME
I’ll get ya registered on that thing in a bit.
They go and enter the fancy office.
AKAME
What do ya think? Welcome to my lovely office!
Feel free to use it as ya like ’til we head to the venue I mentioned.
KIRYU
The exterior is somewhat misleading.
AKAME
If I glitzed things up, I’d just become a target.
I deal with plenty of creeps on the job. Always pays to be careful.
KIRYU
You said you were a jack-of-all-trades. Is one of those trades organized crime?
AKAME
That’s real funny, coming from the guy with the red tiger.
Make yerself at home. Just let me register yer eyes in the scanner.
That way ya can come n’ go as ya please.
Moments after, KIRYU puts his glasses back on and looks at AKAME.
AKAME
Alrighty, that should do it. Yer all set.
Hey, you got pretty eyes. So, what’s with the glasses?
KIRYU
Aren’t you just a guide? Stick to your job and stop the questions.
AKAME
Whoa… Why all the hostility?
Well, yer free to leave, if ya’d like. Or we could keep talking.
I’ll be hangin’ out here for a while, ‘kay?
This office is now Kiryu’s home when he’s in Sotenbori. After the cutscene, talk to Akame again.
CUTSCENE 6 – SOTENBORI – TALK TO AKAME IN THE OFFICE
SOTENBORI OFFICE – NIGHT
AKAME is sitting in the office on a red chair, and KIRYU standing nearby.
AKAME
So, what’s the plan? Huh, Joryu?
KIRYU
(thinking)
I’ve got a lot of things I want to ask her…
(asking AKAME)
Can you tell me about yourself?
AKAME
I told ya, I’m a jack-of-all-trades. Guess I do a little bit of everything, legal or not.
But buyin’ and sellin’ infos is the most lucrative.
I look after the homeless ’round here. In exchange, I get juicy intel.
KIRYU
So, that’s what Tsuruno was referring to.
AKAME
I probably come off as some sorta community activist to outsiders, huh?
But Osaka’s got more homeless than anywhere else in Japan.
Gotta use local conditions to my advantage if I wanna stay afloat as a small business.
KIRYU
Can’t we just move on to the venue already?
AKAME
Now’s not a good time. We’ll go tomorrow.
Once we go, that’s it. If yer not in tip-top shape, you’ll regret it later.
KIRYU
I can’t afford to laze around – it’s urgent.
(thinking)
I have no idea what role Akame has in all of this. I should avoid discussing specifics.
Plus, it seems Tsuruno didn’t tell her much. A slip-up might get her dragged into trouble.
AKAME
At least ya got somethin’ to look forward to tomorrow.
Just take it easy for today.
KIRYU
What’ll you do?
AKAME
Night’s still young for me. I’ve got a mountain of work.
I’m not gonna strangle ya in yer sleep, so relax. Use that sofa if ya need a nap, ‘kay?
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, walk to the sofa in the office and interact with it to sleep to the next morning.
CUTSCENE 7 – SOTENBORI – NEXT MORNING AT THE OFFICE
SOTENBORI OFFICE – DAYTIME
KIRYU is waking up, alone in the office.
KIRYU
(thinking)
No sign of Akame. I wonder where she went.
KIRYU walks to the door. In this moment, AKAME enters.
AKAME
Hey there. Did ya sleep well, Joryu?
KIRYU
Yeah. Thanks.
AKAME
Was gonna wake ya earlier, but you were sleepin’ like a baby.
And to think ya made all that fuss ’bout lazin’ ’round and such.
KIRYU
Do you want an apology?
AKAME
Nah, yer good. Actually, I happen to be totally swamped today.
Do ya mind waitin’ a lil longer before we get goin’?
KIRYU
Look I meant it when I said I can’t waste time. Give me the location and I’ll go myself.
AKAME
Sorry, no can do. Ya need me with ya. It’s not the kinda place you just waltz into.
KIRYU
That so…
AKAME
Hmm. Alright, if yer gonna be that way…
Then I’ve got an offer for ya. How ’bout helpin’ me out?
Ya got that red tiger, so ya must be pretty tough, right?
The quicker I finish up here, the sooner we get to the venue.
KIRYU
You say “venue” as if that means anything to me.
What exactly am I walking into?
AKAME
Heh. Fair ’nuff! It’s a top-secret playground for society’s bigwigs.
They call it the Castle.
KIRYU
The Castle?
AKAME
If ya tried lookin’ for it yerself, no way ya’d find an in. Ya gotta be chosen to enter.
Or blessed with a red tiger, for example.
KIRYU
(thinking)
Is that where they’re keeping Hanawa? What the hell is Tsuruno up to?
AKAME
So, how ’bout it, Joryu? Ya gonna help me out?
Ya do seem in a mighty rush to get to that Castle…
KIRYU
Not like I have a choice.
Fine. If that’s what it takes, let’s get it over with.
AKAME
Sweet! I knew ya’d come ’round! Then let’s get started!
FADE OUT
SOTENBORI OFFICE – DAYTIME
KIRYU and AKAME sitting opposite each other at the office table.
AKAME
So, I told ya that I source info via the homeless folks out here in Sotenbori, right?
KIRYU
Yeah.
AKAME
Well, they’ve been askin’ for my help recently.
Seems homeless people ’round here have been disappearin’ one by one.
Apparently, they’re bein’ taken by welfare thieves.
KIRYU
Welfare thieves?
AKAME
Yeah. Scum who round up vulnerable folk just to extort ’em for welfare checks.
Lemme tell ya how it works.
First, they promise ya a place to live, rent-free, plus three square meals a day.
But really, they cram a buncha people into cage-like rooms.
Then they force ’em to sign up for welfare and steal any money that comes in.
Their prime targets are the newly homeless ’cause they’re still clueless.
KIRYU
So, they prey on the helpless.
AKAME
Exactly. They snatch everythin’ – bank books and all. By then there’s no escapin’.
The living conditions are filthy as all hell, too.
These thieves treat ’em like livestock.
KIRYU
And? What do you want me to do about it?
AKAME
Isn’t it obvious!? Ya gotta run those guys outta town n’ rescue the victims!
It’s the right thing to do, ain’t it?
KIRYU
Wait a minute. There’s a chance these guys are working for the yakuza.
Most yakuza families in Sotenbori are backed by the Omi Alliance.
Are you prepared to stand against the Omi?
AKAME
Hell yes! If it’s our own local yakuza behind this, they’re bringin’ shame to all of Kansai!
I wanna see ya kick ’em to the curb and run ’em out of Sotenbori!
KIRYU
At least you’ve got conviction.
So, how many welfare thieves are there? Are we the only ones on the job?
AKAME
Huh? Oh, yer fightin’ ’em all on yer own, Joryu.
Violence isn’t for me – I just help the victims.
KIRYU
Wait, what? Oh… I see how it is.
This was your plan from the very start, wasn’t it?
AKAME
Don’t throw a fit! They say the righteous won’t turn a blind eye to injustice, right?
Besides, if ya can’t handle this, you definitely can’t handle the Castle!
KIRYU
If you say so. Now tell me where to find those welfare thieves.
It’s time I introduced them to my fists.
AKAME
As expected of our red tiger man! Too bad I don’t know their specific location.
I’ve heard they tend to pop up on the riverside near Sotenbori Bridge pretty often.
FADE OUT
2 – FIND THE WELFARE THIEVES
In the previous cutscene, Kiryu got the task from Akame to find welfare thieves and stop what they’re doing. When you open the map you should see a mission marker to the exact location of the thieves as in the screenshot below.
Go to this location by the river and you will find a group of Omi Alliance harassing a homeless man.
CUTSCENE 8 – SOTENBORI BRIDGE – RIVERSIDE
SOTENBORI BRIDGE – DAYTIME
A group of OMI ALLIANCE is harassing a HOMELESS MAN near the Sotenbori Bridge.
OMI ALLIANCE
So? Waddaya say, mister?
How ’bout beddin’ down in a warm house, four walls, n’ a roof over yer head?
Yer no stray mutt. Yer a human bein’! Ya can’t sleep out in the cold like this.
You can trust me, pal. If ya don’t believe me, then come see for yerself!
HOMELESS MAN
That’s… very nice of ya, but I’m fine here, really.
It’s just… when somethin’ seems too good to be true, it usually is.
Look at me now. If I could go back and do things all over, I would…
OMI ALLIANCE
Damn it. Give it a rest! You keep spewin’ the same sh*t!
I said come with me!
KIRYU arrives, grabs the OMI ALLIANCE man just in front of the HOMELESS MAN, and throws him backward on the floor.
OMI ALLIANCE
The f*ck’s yer deal, man!?
The OMI ALLIANCE man quickly gets up.
KIRYU
So, you must be the welfare thieves. You guys just do this out in the open, huh?
OMI ALLIANCE
And what if we are, a*shole!?
KIRYU
Where do all the people you “help” end up?
It’s time you released them.
OMI ALLIANCE
The f*ck ya think ya are? Some kinda hero?
KIRYU
So what if I am?
OMI ALLIANCE
We’re Omi men!
Bow that head of yers, and I might just consider lettin’ ya pay us off.
Or you’re gonna regret ever –
KIRYU
I don’t see anyone here worth bowing to. So, tell me, what will I regret?
KIRYU gets into a fighting position.
OMI ALLIANCE
Ya wanna fight, old man? Great. We’ll dump yer corpse in the river!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene it is clear that this Omi Alliance group is up to no good. Defeat them all.
CUTSCENE 9 – SOTENBORI BRIDGE – RIVERSIDE – AFTER THE FIGHT
SOTENBORI BRIDGE – DAYTIME
KIRYU has defeated all of the OMI ALLIANCE members. He approaches one of them to grab him by the suit.
KIRYU
I’ll ask again, where are you keeping the homeless people?
OMI ALLIANCE
Uunnh… You…
KIRYU
Seems the Omi have really let themselves go.
Stealing from people who have nothing… That’s as low as you can get.
OMI ALLIANCE
Keep yer big-a*s nose outta our business.
KIRYU
Where are you keeping them?
It’d be easier to tell me while you still have all your teeth.
OMI ALLIANCE
Yotsudera Kaikan! In Shofukucho… It’s on the second floor!
KIRYU
That’s better. You’ve earned yourself some rest.
KIRYU kicks the OMI ALLIANCE man once and he falls unconscious on the floor.
HOMELESS MAN
Thank ya, sir… Ya saved me.
KIRYU
No problem.
Those men said they were Omi, right? Are ya goin’ to be okay?
I won’t be in the city for long. What about you?
HOMELESS MAN
Huh?
KIRYU
If you don’t have anyone to rely on… have you heard about Akame?
She looks out for the homeless in this area.
HOMELESS MAN
Uh, no, I’m new to these parts.
KIRYU
Ask around and you should be able to find her. Assuming you’re interested.
HOMELESS MAN
Akame… you say?
KIRYU
Yeah. Take care, all right?
FADE OUT
3 – GO TO YOTSUDERA KAIKAN
In the previous cutscene, Kiryu got the information from a Omi Alliance member, where they keep the homeless locked up. You can find the location and the mission marker in your in-game map. It’s in the southwest.
When you arrive at the location, you will see that there is an outer staircase to the second floor as highlighted in the screenshot below. Take it to get to the Welfare Thieves. On the second floor, follow the corridor toward the back.
CUTSCENE 9 – YOTSUDERA KAIKAN – HOMELESS PEOPLE PRISON
YOTSUDERA KAIKAN – DAYTIME
KIRYU walks to the end of the second-floor corridor and encounters two guards in front of him.
GUARD
Hey, ya can’t just stroll in here. Authorized personnel only!
Ya sleepwalkin’, gramps?
KIRYU is looking around. There are a few locked rooms around him.
KIRYU
I heard you’re keeping homeless people here.
Is that what this whole floor is for?
GUARD
The hell? Yo! We got a lunatic out here!
And he’s spoutin’ bullsh*t!
A door opens and some more guards exit into the corridor.
GUARD
Dunno where ya blew in from, buddy… but the exit’s that way.
KIRYU is still looking at one of the locked doors.
KIRYU
This room’s locked from the outside. Is that because you’ve got people caged up in there?
GUARD
Man, this guy’s a pain.
Spare us the lecture, dumba*s. Ya tryin’ to get yer face rearranged?
KIRYU is walking to one of the doors and rips the lock away. He’s overwhelmed by the bad odors and the state of the people locked up in there.
GUARD
Hey! The hell are ya doin’!?
KIRYU
(looking inside the room)
Even the air here is foul.
GUARD
Bastard! Think ya can just do whatever the hell ya want!?
Get ready for a whoopin’!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, it is clear that it is here where the homeless people are being kept. They are well guarded though and you have to Defeat the welfare thieves before freeing the homeless.
CUTSCENE 10 – YOTSUDERA KAIKAN – AFTER THE FIGHT
YOTSUDERA KAIKAN – DAYTIME
All of the Omi are defeated, the Main Guard – KANEDA – is sitting on the floor, looking up to KIRYU.
KANEDA
Who… who the f*ck are you?
KIRYU does not answer but proceeds to beak open the locks of all the other doors. All the trapped homeless are slowly coming out and entering the corridor.
KIRYU
You’ve gathered quite a collection.
KANEDA
Y-Yer never gonna get away with this! Know what family yer screwin’ with!?
The Omi Alliance! So watch it!
KIRYU
The very dregs of it, aren’t you? Seems the Omi have fallen on hard times.
Why else would you pull a scam like this?
So what if you’re Omi thugs? Gonna go cry to your boss?
I’d be too ashamed to admit my family got their a*ses kicked by one man, even if you are small-time.
You’ve disgraced the reputation of the Omi Alliance.
Kick up a fuss, and you’ll be the one looking stupid.
KANEDA
Who… the hell are ya?
KIRYU
Release all those people, and I just might forget what happened here.
I’m saying this for your own sake, you know?
KANEDA
Urgh… Dammit.
AKAME arrives and is happy.
AKAME
Wow! Amazing, Joryu! Yer the best!
KIRYU
Akame. Surprised you found the place.
AKAME
I figured ya’d handle things pretty quickly.
Plus, I could hear all the hollerin’ from outside.
KANEDA
Wait, who’s this b*tch?
AKAME
Really? Ya make yer livin’ preyin’ on the homeless, and ya don’t even recognize me?
Figures. ‘Course ya haven’t done yer homework!
KANEDA
Shut it, lady!
We’ve been helpin’ the homeless! Givin’ ’em beds and food and sh*t!
The hell’s wrong with that!?
AKAME
Huh? Everythin’s wrong here, duh!
Yer really sugarcoatin’ it, ya little cockroach!
Ya think shovin’ people in a dump like this is helpin’!?
Ya don’t even let ’em out for air. If it’s so great, maybe y’all should try it!
KIRYU
(thinking)
Quite the lecture from someone who made me do all the work.
AKAME
Now, cough up their stuff!
Bankbooks, IDs, papers – hand ’em over!
Unless ya want another taste of this guy’s fists. Right, Joryu?
KIRYU
Yeah. You heard the lady.
FADE OUT
BACK AT THE OFFICE – DAYTIME
AKAME and KIRYU returned to the office and are now talking. She’s sitting in her chair, while he’s standing near her.
AKAME
Seriously though, Joryu! Yer super tough!
Thanks to you, a ton of innocent people were saved.
KIRYU
If only that were true.
AKAME
Huh? Whatcha mean?
KIRYU
Don’t act like you planned all this out of the kindness of your heart.
You just want to use the homeless for your own ends instead, don’t you?
AKAME
No way. I’m not like that.
I’m gonna make sure they get some actual support!
KIRYU
Oh really?
AKAME
Hey, buddy. Ya seem to be misunderstandin’ me, so let me lay it all out for ya.
Ain’t no way in hell I’d ever take advantage of people like those welfare-stealin’ bloods*ckers!
I owe a lot to the homeless people of this city, ya know?
I’m not some sh*t-stain who would stab ’em in the back!
An’ a big part of why I started doin’ this kinda work was ’cause I wanted to return the favor.
This city and the people who welcomed me in… I just wanna help ’em out.
Honestly, it’s thanks to their efforts that I can earn a decent living. No denyin’ that.
KIRYU
You said you owe them… What exactly do you mean?
AKAME
Don’t feel like tellin’ ya. Maybe later, if I get to know ya better.
KIRYU
That so? Seems like the lack of trust is mutual then.
AKAME
I’ll ask all the homeless people we saved today to join my network.
That way I can strengthen my intel and better protect ’em from thugs like this.
It’s a win-win situation, get me?
KIRYU
So, this is how you manage to obtain the info you sell.
AKAME
Yep. n’ today was an especially good haul. Couldn’t have done it without ya, Joryu!
Now I’ll keep my end of the bargain and take ya to the Castle!
KIRYU
Finally.
AKAME
Oh, but one more thing ‘fore I do…
KIRYU
Hm?
AKAME
Well, Joryu. Seein’ as how yer so tough and all…
I’ve got a favor to ask. Would ca maybe help out again in the future?
KIRYU
You want my help?
AKAME
Well, bein’ a jack-of-all-trades, I never turn down a job.
But everyone’s got strengths and weaknesses, ya know?
I mean, ya can take out guys with one punch.
But I could slap someone a hundred times and get nowhere. It’s just not efficient!
‘Course, ya’d only go up against scum like those thieves. It’s practically charity work!
KIRYU
Once I finish what I came here for, I’m leaving Sotenbori.
AKAME
Aww, really?
KIRYU
But… I don’t mind helping out while I’m still here.
AKAME
Wow, seriously!? Yer the best!
Well, no point in beatin’ ’round the bush… Can ya help me with some other stuff before we head to the Castle?
KIRYU
Hey, what are you trying to pull here?
AKAME
I know, I know! Yer busy, right?
But I’ve got things to take care of, so we can’t leave ’til tonight anyway.
And we’ve still got some time ’til then, so… how about earnin’ some money with me? Sound good?
KIRYU
So long as it’s only until tonight.
AKAME
Wow, awesome! Thank ya so much!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene in the office, you are introduced to another feature of the game: the AKAME NETWORK. By doing jobs for the AKAME NETWORK, you can earn AKAME POINTS that you can spend in the AKAME SHOP for gear or skins.
You can access the AKAME NETWORK by talking to AKAME in the office. Here you can invest in the shop or access the shop. Before you can use the shop you have to pay 15,000 yen to upgrade the AKAME NETWORK.
At Level 1, the AKAME NETWORK only offers “Stroll n’ Patrol” jobs that are visible on the support map. Either by an exclamation mark or a fist, like in the screenshot below. Each task has a unique name and a reward.
Your task to be able to continue with the main story is to help people on the support map with those “Stroll n’ Patrol” jobs. Raise the AKAME NETWORK to Level 3. AKAME will contact you on the phone when you’re done and call you back to the office.
As Akame reaches level 3, you’ll unlock the Activity Log, a comprehensive list of activities that contribute to increasing your Akama Network Level. Whether you’re eating, taking photos, socializing, or battling, each activity is tracked and accumulated. Achieving milestones in the Activity log earns you points, so be sure to check it regularly.
Additionally, with Level 3, Requests are introduced. They are side missions that you have to accept in the Akame Network Menu. The rewards are much higher than the “Stroll n’ Patrol” tasks but also take longer to complete. In fact, Akame will send you a Job Request called “Emergency Request” right now.
4 – EMERGENCY REQUEST JOB
The first tutorial request for the Akame Network is tasking Kiryu to Investigate the Immersive Cabaret Club in Sotenbori. It’s the “Heavenly” club in the center of the map, near the park. The map below shows the location.
The entrance is standing out, with a red frame and a red carpet, with a staircase going down to an entrance door. The bouncer will ask for an entrance fee of 10,000 yen. Not too bad, since fighting some things sometimes will get you 10,000 – 15,000 yen. After paying you can choose the hostess you would like to spend the evening with. Either Kei or Ayu. What follows is a mini-game with real actors. You can pick a topic and you will have to guess out of three answers what your opposite likes. If you pick the right one, you will fill the hearts bar at the top, if not, everything stays the same. Level up all the hostesses to get to go on a date with them.
After you’re done in the Heavenly Club, return to Akame for the debriefing of the Request Job.
5 – BLACK MARKET WEAPON SHOP
Kiryu and Akame then discuss how to spend this well-earned money. She suggests to go visit the Black Market Weapon Shop for special items that help Kiryu fight. It’s in the northwestern corner of the map, in a little alley as shown on the map below, indicated with the yellow mission marker.
When entering the alley, Kiryu notices a man sitting on the alley floor, surrounded by bottles. Turns out, he’s the owner of the Blackmarket Weapon Shop. In the shop, he will give Kiryu an introduction to the Hornet Drones’ Gatget in fights. In the tutorial fight with the Black Market Weapons Dealer, you have to summon a Hornet five times to continue with the story. At the end, he will introduce himself as Akira Mizorogi. He’ll give Kiryu the mission marker to another special shop he has to visit. A Smoke Shop near the park.
6 – SMOKE SHOP
The next mission marker, the Smoke Shop is in the southeast of the map, near the park.
Talk to the charming woman there and she will present to you another useful tool: The Firefly, which is basically a small bomb that you can throw in battle. Like with the drones, you can upgrade it with Akame Points in the in-game menu.
Now it’s time to return to the office and talk to Akame. She’ll take you to the Castle now.
CUTSCENE 11 – GOING TO THE CASTLE
OFFICE – NIGHT
KIRYU, back at the Office. AKAME is sitting on her usual chair, and KIRYU is standing nearby.
KIRYU
Akame, please take me to the Castle.
AKAME
Sure thing! Sorry for makin’ ya wait so long.
After all, that’s the whole reason ya came to Osaka, right?
KIRYU
Glad you understand.
AKAME
Of course. But one more question before we go.
KIRYU
What is it?
AKAME
Are ya ‘fraid of heights?
FADE OUT
INSIDE A HELICOPTER FLYING OVER THE SEA – NIGHT
KIRYU and AKAME sitting in a helicopter, flying over the sea toward a container ship.
AKAME
So, whatcha think? That’s the Castle.
KIRYU
Sure it is a big boat. But why‘s it called the Castle?
AKAME
Glad ya asked! You’re gonna find out as soon as we land!
As soon as they land and approach a big iron door, the gates open. A bright “Las Vegas-style inside is revealed with a big replication of Osaka Castle at the back.
AKAME
Well? Take a look back there! It’s a castle, see?
KIRYU
Osaka Castle?
AKAME
Yup! It’s an adult theme park set in Osaka Castle, all on a giant container ship!
Ya gotta be a real big shot to get into the place.
The camera zooms out to show the ship and the size from the top. Then, the camera returns to AKAME and KIRYU, who are entering the inside.
AKAME
This ship’s owned by the head branch of the Omi Alliance.
It’s an old foreign vessel that was sold off for peanuts. Real beaut’, don’t ya think?
These days, it’s run by an Omi family called the Kijin Clan.
KIRYU
The Kijin Clan…
AKAME
Word is, they’re a nasty group that handles all the Omi’s dirty work.
The appeal of this place is its promise of unlimited freedom.
Obviously, that includes drinkin’, gamblin’ and whorin’.
The hotshots that come to party here get away with anythin’.
Only thing they won’t let ya do is bring in yer phone. ‘Member how they took ours?
If people could record stuff, that might put a damper on all the ‘fun’.
KIRYU
Concealed from the eyes of the law.
AKAME
Yeah, that’s the kinda place this is. Back in the day,
havin’ a high-end members only club was enough to hide secrets.
But nowadays, anyone with a smartphone can be a journalist.
That’s where the Omi saw a business opportunity to cater to the particularly perverse.
People with taboo fetishes can live out their darkest desires here.
A cart with one of the “Taboo fetishes” is rolly by.
PERV
They’re slowing down. Come on, dear, give ’em the whip!
WOMAN
Oh, darling, can I really?
PERV
Of course! Be as wild as you please!
WOMAN
Gladly! Oooo!
The camera zooms back to AKAME and KIRYU.
AKAME
The targets of their abuse are typically gamblers up to their ears in debt.
Folks who went for one last hurrah to change their luck, only to end up like this.
So, the worse the economy is, the better things are for business.
Oh, and for guests who crave even more stimulation… Check it out.
The camera zooms to the entrance of the castle and shows brutal cage fights in the inside.
KIRYU
A coliseum, huh.
AKAME
Since ancient Rome, seems nothin’ gets a crowd goin’ like seein’ bloodshed.
But it’s not all hopeless here.
Ya got world champion boxers, legendary martial artists, renowned hitmen, mercs, gold medalists…
The VIPs here bet tons of money on ’em, so the fighters’ earnings can be huge.
KIRYU
(thinking)
I have a basic understanding of what this place is. But why did Tsuruno send me here?
(to AKAME)
Akame… you said the Kijin Clan runs this place, right?
The Watase Family isn’t involved?
AKAME
The Watase Family? Bet yer ass they are.
The families of the Omi Alliance take turns hostin’ the Coliseum every night.
Just so happens that tonight is the Watase Family’s turn.
KIRYU
Seriously?
AKAME
And Joryu, that red tiger yer holdin’ is a ticket to enter the fights.
If yer tough enough, sky’s the limit. It’s a golden ticket to the ring of dreams…
That’s why those tigers fetch a pretty penny with the right buyer!
KIRYU
(thinking)
Now that she mentions it, those thugs who jumped me wanted this badly.
I guess they were planning to sell it somewhere.
AKAME
It’s my job to meet anyone with a tiger and bring ’em to the Castle Coliseum.
Ya gotta be really trusted in the underworld to do this, so I’m the one in Osaka who’s been given the responsibility.
KIRYU
…Why didn’t you tell me all of this earlier?
AKAME
Well, Joryu, ya said ya didn’t know what the red tiger meant, right?
Normally, people are happy to come with me.
But if you said, “Noooo! I hate coliseums!” then I’d bear the blame.
But now that we’ve come this far, there’s no gettin’ off this boat!
KIRYU
…Great.
AKAME
Hey, it’ll be fine! Ya got a red tiger ’cause someone believed in yer strength.
You’ll just be part of the opening act to start, but by the end, I bet you’ll be MVP!
And then someone in the Watase Family should have a huge prize for ya.
Maybe it’ll be Tsuruno-san himself!
KIRYU
I see. So, that’s how this works.
AKAME
Hey, Joryu? Yer not mad at me, are ya?
KIRYU
No. Actually, everything’s starting to come together.
Seems like Tsuruno wants to test me.
If that’s the case, I’m up for the challenge. And I’ll make sure he regrets all of this.
AKAME
Not sure I get ya. But hey, as long as yer not mad at me!
KIRYU
So? How do I enter the Coliseum?
AKAME
There’s a reception area by the Coliseum entrance. If ya head that way, yer sure to find it.
AKAME is pointing towards the entrance.
KIRYU
Hm? What, so this is as far as you go?
AKAME
I’m barred from the Castle when I’m not escortin’ competitors. Let me look around, pretty please?
I’ll come find ya later, ‘kay? That work for ya?
KIRYU
Fine. Do what you want.
AKAME
Don’t point too much ’bout it, all right? Well, I’ll catch ya later, Joryu.
Go get herself signed up.
FADE OUT
At this moment, the cutscene on the ship ends and you’re talking control as Kiryu again. There are a couple of minigames you can play here, or you can go directly to the castle. There will be another cutscene at the entrance when you do.
CUTSCENE 12 – OSAKA CASTLE ON THE SHIP
OSAKA CASTLE – NIGHT
Kiryu enters Osaka Castle. Someone approaching him from the back.
MAN WITH THE HANNAYA MASK
Looks like ya made it here in one piece, Kiryu-san… Or was it Joryu?
KIRYU turns around toward the voice and recognizes the man with the Hannaya Mask that he fought in Chapter 1.
KIRYU
You… Not gonna hide your face today?
MAN WITH THE HANNAYA MASK
Nope. On this ship, the might of the Omi Alliance is law. Nothin’ for me to worry about.
KIRYU
Where’s Tsuruno?
MAN WITH THE HANNAYA MASK
Lookin’ after Hanawa-san.
Originally, I was the one supposed to be doin’ that, but…
I gotta say, it’s tough takin’ care of a pet.
KIRYU
Bastard.
MAN WITH THE HANNAYA MASK
If ya don’t wanna get yer buddy killed, I suggest ya head over to the Coliseum.
If ya make it out alive, I’ll even tell ya where Hanawa is.
Ya’d better not disappoint me! Captain Tsuruno’s got high hopes for ya, too.
KIRYU
I’m getting Hanawa back. Then I’ll be sure to thoroughly convey the extent of my gratitude.
The camera zooms to the top balcony of the Castle.
MAN WITH THE HANNAYA MASK
That fella is Homare Nishitani III, Kijin Clan Patriarch.
He’s the Omi Alliance officer who runs the Castle.
He’s got it all. Youth, money, charm… and an impressive body count.
A true model Kansai yakuza.
KIRYU
Am I supposed to care? I won’t play your games forever.
AKAME approaches from behind.
MAN WITH THE HANNAYA MASK
That so?
Anywho, looks like it’s time for me to split.
Put on a good show for the crowd, at least, would ya?
The Man with the Hannaya Mask, SHISHIDO, leaves. AKAMA arrives near KIRYU.
AKAME
What’s this, Joryu? Didn’t know ya had a friend!
KIRYU
It that’s what it looked like, you’re not as sharp as I thought.
AKAME
I’m only kiddin’! But forget that. Did ya sign up for the Coliseum?
KIRYU
I’m getting around to it.
AKAME
Yer really hopeless without me, aren’t ya, Joryu? I’ll handle it for ya. Right this way
They use the nearby elevator to go up to a reception area. There is a person in a red jacket behind the counter and AKAME approaches him.
AKAME
Heya! Another gladiator delivery!
RECEPTIONIST
We’ve been waiting, Akame-sama. May I see your entry token?
KIRYU puts the red tiger on the reception desk.
RECEPTIONIST
Congratulations. You’ve been given an amazing opportunity. What name will you be registering under?
AKAME
Joryu.
RECEPTIONIST
Understood.
Moments later…
AKAME
Y’know, ya should prolly lose the glasses when ya get to the ring, don’t ya think?
KIRYU
Hm… That won’t work for me.
AKAME
How come? Don’t want people to see yer face?
KIRYU
Exactly. I’ll need a disguise. Gotta find one somewhere.
The RECEPTIONIST interrupts the two with a chest in his hands.
RECEPTIONIST
Excuse me, Joryu-sama. May I have a moment?
KIRYU
Hm?
RECEPTIONIST
SHISHIDO-sama from the Watase Family told me to give this to you.
The RECEPTIONIST puts the chest on top of the reception desk.
AKAME
Ooh, what’s this!? A present?
RECEPTIONIST
As I understand it, yes.
The RECEPTIONIST opens the box. Inside is a shiny mask with pink features and a heart at the front.
KIRYU
That bastard.
AKAME
Looks like he’s pokin’ fun at ya, Joryu.
KIRYU
I bet he has plenty to choose from. Why this one?
AKAME
Well, it’d be pretty surreal to see ya fight in that thing, so that might be fun.
KIRYU
Really?
RECEPTIONIST
Please let me know when you’re finished getting ready.
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, you get to play Kiryu again but this time with the pink mask on. You can either prepare some more for the fight, ask for another mask, or tell the receptionist that you’re ready.
CUTSCENE 13 – OSAKA CASTLE COLISEUM BEFORE THE FIGHT
COLISEUM – NIGHT
Inside the fully packed Coliseum.
SPEAKER
Ladies and gentlemen! Are we having a good time!?
We’re up to five deaths so far tonight! But we’re not done spilling blood just yet!
That’s why this evening’s hosts, the Watase Family, proudly present…
A series of historic yakuza conflicts! Reenacted in three consecutive battles!
KIRYU with the mask on and a group of men are entering the arena.
KIRYU
Thee consecutive battles? What are we walking into?
MAN
I don’t know sh*i. We ain’t supposed to win, ya know?
No reason they gotta explain anything to a buncha of small fries like us.
On the Castle’s top balcony, HOMARE Nishitani III gets a manicure and a pedicure, while SHISHIDO is sitting down behind him. HOMARE looking at the screen that shows the group of men that just entered the arena.
HOMARE
Shishido, buddy. The Watase family rounded all these guys up, right?
You cool with letting them die all at once?
SHISHIDO
If it means spicin’ things up at the Castle tonight.
An hey, no guarantee they’re all gonna die.
HOMARE
Oh? Found someone interesting?
SHISHIDO
Yup. A promisin’ newcomer, ya might say.
The camera is going back to the arena.
SPEAKER
The scene is Osaka, the curtain soon closing on the 20th century!
The people, tormented right under the Omi Alliance’s nose! And by who? Blue Dragon, the international crime syndicate!
The spotlight is now shining on KIRYU and the group of men. They’re supposed to be the evil syndicate.
SPEAKER
Tonight, they plan a devious, cruel act of indiscriminate arson!
The flashlight moves to a man in a white suit with a baseball bat full of nails.
SPEAKER
But wait! Who’s this? Why, it’s a young Patriarch Watase!
The man playing young Watase is holding is bat up. Everyone cheers.
MAN
Sh*i. We’re unarmed!
KIRYU
Is that huge brute supposed to be Watase?
SPEAKER
Witness the genesis of the Watase Family’s independence – Operation: Destroy Blue Dragon!
Our very own Patriarch Watase will be painting the town red tonight!
A gong indicates the start of the fight. Young Watase storms forward and one-hits the first of the men, followed by the second and the last two. KIRYU being the only one left standing.
KIRYU
Guess I won’t need to go easy on him. Let’s go!
FADE OUT
What follows now should be crystal clear: Defeat Masaru Watase-ish Man. He has a yellow shield bar and the final red bar to defeat.
CUTSCENE 14 – PATRIARCH WATASE DEFEATED
COLISEUM – NIGHT
The Watase-ish man lies defeated on the floor.
SPEAKER
What’s this!? Patriarch Watase is down!
We’re seeing history rewritten before out very eyes!
The camera is going up to the balcony, where HOMARE AND SHISHIDO are.
HOMARE
Hey, SHISHIDO! That’s your guy, right? The promising newbie?
SHISHIDO
Yeah. But ya ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
Back at the arena, the SPEAKER is now setting up the next stage.
SPEAKER
Now we return to historic yakuza battles! Picture Kamurocho, in the year 2005!
Our vicious villain Akira Nishikiyama will stop at nothing to gain control of the Tojo Clan!
He’s whipped a mass of rioters into a frenzy! Kamurocho’s been plunged into mayhem!
A fresh group of men is joining KIRYU in the arena.
SPEAKER
The riotous mob is out for the blood of one man…
A fighter in a white suit with a Katana in one hand, and a pistol in the other, enters the arena.
SPEAKER
The legendary yakuza! The Dragon of Dojima! Kazuma Kiryuuu!!
FAKE KIRYU
I won’t hold anything back. If you wanna die, come at me!
KIRYU
I do not sound like that…
SPEAKER
Folks, hold onto your umbrellas! ‘Cause it’s about to rain blood!
FADE OUT
Now it’s time to fight and defeat the Fake Kiryu.
CUTSCENE 15 – FAKE KIRYU DEFEATED
COLISEUM – NIGHT
The Fake Kiryu lies defeated on the floor.
SPEAKER
The Dragon of Dojima, Kazuma Kiryu, has met his maker! Here, at the Castle!
Yet another upset! Tonight’s battles have really flipped the script!
At the balcony, an excited SHISHIDO comes closer to the edge to see better.
SHISHIDO
Look at ya go, Joryu! Survive the next battle, and the prize is yers!
HOMARE
Joryu?
SHISHIDO
Yep, that’s what he said to call ‘im. Wouldn’t tell us his real name.
HOMARE
I see.
The camera shows the arena again.
SPEAKER
For the next one, we’ll have him in the role of Kiryu, reenactin’ a legendary showdown!
In the winter of 2006, a truly strange incident occurred.
A legendary yakuza, said to be the strongest in the history of the Omi Alliance, suddenly vanished!
In the middle of the arena is now a cage and KIRYU enters it first. Outside, he can see two tigers and a man approaching.
SPEAKER
Who? Why, the Second Patriarch of the Omi Alliance’s Go-Ryu Clan… Ryuji Goda!
RYUJI GODA approaches and enters the cage.
SPEAKER
Rumor is, on that night in Kamurocho, the Dragons of East and West – Ryuji Goda and Kazuma Kiryu – duked it out in a no-holds-barred brawl!
The results of that fight remain shrouded in mystery.
So, who’s to say Ryuji Goda isn’t still out there somewhere?
Who’s to say he isn’t here with us tonight!?
The cage is lifted into the air with KIRYU and RYUJI GODA in it. The tigers remain down in the arena.
SPEAKER
Get ready, folks! ‘Cause we’re about to raise the ring!
Joryu, the boisterous brawler who crushed Kazuma Kiryu in the last round, will be playing the Dragon of Dojima!
At last, the third and final battle! There’s no turning back now!
RYUJI GODA takes off his top clothes and shows off a prominent back tattoo.
SPEAKER
Will he eat, or be eaten? A thrilling clash between legendary yakuza rehashed before your very eyes!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, it’s time to fight the Coliseum Fighter that looks like Ryuji Goda. Halfway into the fight, another short cutscene starts, where a long chain falls into the cage. As soon as Ryuji Goda grabs it, the cage floor collapses and Kiryu falls down into the arena to fight the two tigers. There is a Katana right next to him that he can use.
Kiryu defeats the tigers and Ryuji Goda drops down to continue the fight with Kiryu. Of course, Kiryu defeats him too and even protects the weakened Ryuji Goda from the tigers at the end of the fight.
CUTSCENE 16 – RYUJI GODA DEFEATED
COLISEUM – NIGHT
KIRYU won the last fight.
SPEAKER
He did it! Our mystery combatant survived all three battles! But he’s nameless no more!
The history of the yakuza has been rewritten…
…by a new warrior! Joryuuu!
Excited, AKAME stands up in the ranks and cheers!
AKAME
Ya did it, Joryu! Yer gonna be a star!
Down in the arena, KIRYU looks down at Ryuji Goda.
KIRYU
You got the look down. But nothing else.
He’d never trust a tiger over his own two hands.
He’d much sooner die than pull that.
KIRYU walks to the exit. Up on the balcony, HOMARE seems to be happy.
HOMARE
You really put on a show for us, tonight, Shishido! You’ve outdone yourself!
SHISHIDO
My pleasure, Patriarch!
HOMARE
Good on the Watase Family for finding him.
Anyone as strong as that, figure they’d already be on my radar… Guess not.
SHISHIDO
It’s all thanks to the Coliseum.
This place has a mystical pull that attracts money and power, way I see it.
HOMARE
Heh. You’re getting good at flattery… for someone who grew up in sh*t.
SHISHIDO
Why, thank ya. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got duties to attend to.
FADE OUT
THRONE ROOM AT THE CASTLE – NIGHT
KIRYU enters a room with a chair at the back and impressive armor displays to the left and right of the room. SHISHIDO sitting in the chair.
SHISHIDO
Ya put on a great show tonight, Kiryu-san. Truly captivatin’!
KIRYU
I fulfilled my end of the bargain. So, spill it. Where’s Hanawa?
SHISHIDO
Now, now, why the rush? Ya gotta let me congratulate ya first!
Why don’t ya stay and chat for a while? Night’s still young, right?
SHISHIDO looks down at the ship.
SHISHIDO
What do ya think of this view? City looks pretty sweet, sparklin’ like this. Gorgeous, even…
Back when I was bottom of the barrel, all this glamor was too good for little ol’me.
I was abandoned by my folks at 15. Had to brawl just to feed myself.
My old man, the worthless f*ck, was drownin’ in debt. Woulda done anythin’ for cash…
Probably rottin’ in a ditch somewhere by now.
Thanks to him, I spent my days forced to fight in death matches against brats my age.
Only path of survival was to toughen up.
And even then… even when ya did get tougher, ya could be killed on a whim.
Strength and luck. The second ya ran outta either, yer just another corpse.
Never knew when yer life might be snuffed out, just like that.
S’only recently I’ve been able to look back and laugh about it.
KIRYU
Sounds like the stuff of nightmares, what the Kijin Clan did to you.
And yet you seemed awfully friendly with the patriarch.
SHISHIDO
I’ve learned a thing or two about tellin’ people what they wanna hear.
Couldn’t have done it if Captain TSURUNO hadn’t seen somethin’ in me.
Spent decades wrigglin’ ’round in the muck before he picked me outta the gutter.
Like a knight in shinin’ f*ckin’ armor.
In fact, SHISHIDO is the name the boss gave me once I swore my oath.
So that I could be reborn n’ leave my sh*t-smeared past behind.
Doubt ya can relate, huh, Kiryu-san?
Yer past… well, you’re the Dragon of Dojima.
Prize fighter and legendary yakuza. Even yer p*ss smells like virtue and honor!
The path you’ve walked has been nothin’ but glitz and glamor.
So why not stop skulkin’ around, pretendin’ to be dead?
Shout yer name out to the world!
Forget ’bout Hanawa-san and Daidoji. Do what ya want!
Revive Kazuma Kiryu, and join us for one last hurrah!
Ya gotta be itchin’ for it, right? So, c’mon!
KIRYU
No… you couldn’t be more wrong.
SHISHIDO
Wha…?
KIRYU
I’ve listened to you long enough.
If you can’t stop yourself from blabbering, then do it after you’ve returned HANAWA.
To begin with, you’re talking to the wrong man. I’m not Kazuma Kiryu.
SHISHIDO
Well, aren’t ya stubborn. Or maybe the Daidoji just as ya well trained?
How’d they manage to get ya so tame, I wonder?
KIRYU
Just tell me where to find Hanawa. I’m done wasting time.
SHISHIDO
Fine, fine. I get it. A promise is a promise.
Yer precious Hanawa-san is bein’ watched over in a little corner of Sotenbori.
Captain Tsuruno’s been usin’ a buildin’ called Namiki No. 3 as his hideout.
He’s waitin’ for ya there. And the family’s best fighters are there waitin’ too.
KIRYU
You mean he won’t release Hanawa without a fight?
SHISHIDO
The boss and the captain… They both want ya on their side.
That said, accordin’ to Captain, this is the final negotiation.
So these are his orders for ya:
“If ya want Hanawa-san back, then come and take him.”
KIRYU
And you?
SHISHIDO
Well, when it’s time for us to face off, I want ya fresh n’ fightin’ fit.
Don’t wanna hear ya whine ’bout how tired ya are after gettin’ yer a*s beat.
KIRYU
In that case, enjoy the time you have left.
Once I rescue Hanawa, I’ll pay you back for whatever you’ve done to him.
KIRYU turns around and leaves.
SHISHIDO
Lookin’ forward to it!
Remember, yer a*s is mine. So, ya better not lose to the captain!
FADE OUT
OUTSIDE OF THE CASTLE – NIGHT
KIRYU is meeting AKAME outside of the Castle.
AKAME
Hey! I’ve been waitin’ for ya! So, tell me, what was yer prize?
I did get ya this far right? Surely it wouldn’t kill ya to share some scraps?
KIRYU
No prize. Right now, I need to return to Sotenbori.
AKAME
Wha? Why!? They seriously didn’t give ya anythin’?
KIRYU
I’ll tell you in the helicopter. Let’s get out of here, now.
AKAME
Geez, okay… Must be serious stuff, huh?
In that case, I’ll head to the helipad and get ’em ready for us.
Meet me there when yer ready to go!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, you’re finally outside of the Castle again. You can either stay and play more games or head to the helicopter to return to Sotenbori.
7 – HEAD TO NAMIKI NO. 3 BUILDING
Hanawa is kept in the Namiki No. 3 building. As soon as you’re back at Sotenbori you’ll get a mission marker that points to a location in the northeast of the map as shown on the screenshot below.
When you arrive at the location, a short cutscene is shown where Kiryu is looking up at the building. Enter it to start the Hanawa rescue.
CUTSCENE 17 – NAMIKI NO. 3
NAMIKI NO. 3 – NIGHT
After KIRYU entered he is greeted by a group of MEN.
KIRYU
You already know why I’m here. Where’s Hanawa?
MAN
You’ll find ‘im on the top floor with Captain TSURUNO.
But first we’re gonna make ya feel real welcome. Woudn’t want to be rude.
He’s looking at his men, that are ready to fight.
KIRYU
With bats and iron pipes, no less. You know…
It’s hard not to be disappointed by such a skimpy welcome party.
KIRYU takes off his glasses and puts them somewhere safe.
MAN
Heh… Talkin’ a big game there.
ANOTHER MAN
For our part, we think the captain’s overestimated ya… Kiryu-san.
KIRYU
I won’t waste time arguing, but I’ll be sure to give you something to talk about.
MAN
First, ya gotta earn the right to challenge us.
If ya can’t handle these guys, ya ain’t got no business here.
Hey, don’t worry about us. We’re not picky about who takes ‘im out!
KIRYU is already prepared to fight.
SPEAKER
I’m beyond ready. Bring it on!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, it’s time to engage in combat with the group on the ground floor. No challenge is too great for Kiryu. Next, follow the yellow marker on the minimap and proceed through the double doors located at the back of the room to reach the staircase.
At the bottom of the staircase, there is a suitcase containing an item that you can pick up. Proceed to ascend the stairs to reach the next floor through a door at the top. Once you enter the next room, a short cutscene will commence, introducing Sakuma, one of the men from the ground floor who was eagerly anticipating your arrival.
After defeating the enemy, refer to your minimap for guidance. A yellow marker will indicate the next destination. When you enter the next room, you’ll find a conveniently placed suitcase on the floor with a valuable item. Proceed through the only available door to encounter another group of adversaries in an office setting.
Continue to follow the path and you will encounter a stronger enemy. He calls himself Yao and has three health bars to defeat him. Exit this room and you get to another staircase. Look for a suitcase here on one of the shelf units before you go up to the next floor. Another group awaits up here. Defeat them, and continue to follow the path to fight another boss. Kubota. His weapon is a very long crowbar but he only has two health bars.
Then, go up to another floor and pick up the suitcase before you enter the next room. The next boss, Ukita is welcoming you with a short cutscene. This one has a gun and two health bars. After your victory, look at the minimap. If you care for the suitcases with items, enter the small room to the left before you continue to follow the yellow quest marker.
Just one more staircase up and you have finally reached Hanawa.
CUTSCENE 18 – HANAWA
NAMIKI NO. 3 – NIGHT
At the top floor of Namiki No. 3, KIRYU has finally reached HANAWA. He’s heavily injured surrounded by TSURUNO and another man.
KIRYU
Hanawa!
HANAWA
That didn’t take long.
You shouldn’t have rushed… I was totally fine.
KIRYU
It’s all right now. You did good.
TSURUNO
Guess they don’t call ya The Legendary Dragon for nothin’.
I just got off the phone with Shishido reportin’ yer win, an’ next thing I know, here ya are.
KIRYU
Seems like you had some fun with Hanawa, Tsuruno.
TSURUNO
If ya just agreed to join us sooner…
I could’ve sent him up to the pearly gates without so much sufferin’.
TSURUNO picks up a hammer and weighs it in his hands.
TSURUNO
In a way, this is all yer fault, Kiryu-san.
KIRYU
Enough of your bullsh*t! You’ll pay for this, Tsuruno.
TSURUNO
So, I take it ya still won’t join us?
Happy to spend yer days waggin’ yer tail for the Daidoji?
Ya go back there, there’s nothin’ for ya, rest of yer life. Sure yer all right with that?
KIRYU
This isn’t the time for you to be worrying about others, Tsuruno.
You might not live to see tomorrow.
TSURUNO
Ha! Well, if that’s how it’s gonna be, then… Get ‘im! Let’s finish this!
MEN
Hell yes!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, it is pretty clear what needs to happen next: Defeat Yuki Tsuruno the Watase Family Captain.
CUTSCENE 19 – TSURUNO DEFEATED
NAMIKI NO. 3 – NIGHT
After successfully defeating TSURUNO, KIRYU rushes to free HANAWA.
HANAWA
You really came to save me… all by yourself?
KIRYU
I hate to say this, but… It didn’t seem like anyone else would come.
HANAWA
I can’t believe you… But honestly, I should thank you.
You saved my life, Joryu.
KIRYU
This isn’t over yet. I still don’t understand why they did this to you.
KIRYU is looking at the defeated TSURUNO.
KIRYU
I’ll make him spit it out.
Besides, I need to thank him for his hospitality.
HANAWA
That sounds like a fine idea. Perfect, actually.
They both head outside to talk to TSURUNO.
KIRYU
Tsuruno. You and I have a lot to talk about. But first, you’re gonna answer me.
The person who’s behind all this, is it really Watase?
TSURUNO
Still find that hard to believe? Heh… Yer certainly cautious.
But I’m the real deal. Watase Family’s Captain.
As for what the boss told me…
Apparently, “we need Kiryu-san’s help, now more than ever.”
For the sake of the Omi Alliance… and for the Tojo Clan.
KIRYU
The Tojo Clan? What’s that got to do with me?
TSURUNO
Oh, it’s got everythin’ to do with ya.
But still… I can’t talk about it with outsiders ’round.
HANAWA
Outsiders? Now, that’s a fine thing to say.
You messed me up this badly, and yet still think of me as an outsider?
TSURUNO
That was all Shishido, no? I just… refrained from stoppin’ him.
HANAWA
This is precisely why I hate the yakuza.
But I understand. Let’s go somewhere else, then.
HANAWA is talking to KIRYU now.
HANAWA
Daidoji maintains several bases in Sotenbori.
But this time, it’ll be me asking the questions, Tsuruno-san.
So, you’d better be ready.
And if someone just happens to rough you up a little, well…
We’ll just call it even, right?
TSURUNO
Kiryu-san… This’ll be about the last chance you get
KIRYU
Huh?
TSURUNO
To rid herself of that Daidoji collar, ya gotta shut Hanawa up for good. Here and now!
Do that, and the boss and I will take care of the rest!
Are ya really gonna spend the rest of yer life doin’ what they say!?
Is that the fate of the Dragon of Dojima?
KIRYU
And what would you have me do?
TSURUNO
We intend to force a dissolution of the Omi Alliance and the Tojo Clan.
It’ll be a joint declaration… by our boss, and the Sixth Chairman Daigo Dojima.
KIRYU
What…?
TSURUNO
But we need yer help… that’s what he told me.
HANAWA
What are you talking about?
TSURUNO
You’ve heard that our boss is gettin’ released from prison next month?
HANAWA
Now that you mention it… it is around that time, isn’t it.
TSURUNO
Once he gets out, yakuza from all over Osaka will welcome him back at Omi HQ.
At that moment, he intends to declare the dissolution of the Omi Alliance to the police.
A buncha Tojo Clan officers who’ve been in hidin’ are showin’ up, too.
Both organizations will issue a joint declaration of dissolution.
KIRYU
So this is what Watase wants? Daigo, too? But… why?
TSURUNO is now getting up.
TSURUNO
The truth is that the yakuza can’t continue to exist like this, with all the laws targetin’ us.
If a grunt slips up the boss takes the fall and goes to jail. That’s the way things are now.
In fact, that’s how our boss wound up in prison in the first place.
Ya so much as look at a politician or cop the wrong way – and bam! Yer locked up.
At this rate, a day will come when yakuza crests are no different from slave brands.
KIRYU
So, before that happens… you want to dissolve?
TSURUNO
That’s right. Once they get the collar ’round our necks, that’s it. Freedom will be an empty dream.
There will be no chance to revolt. No escape. No choice but to slowly fade away.
KIRYU
(thinking)
So, rather than bow to those in power, they’re choosing to throw away their family crests for freedom.
TSURUNO
Apparently, the Sixth Chairman of the Tojo Clan came to the same conclusion.
But to unilaterally dissolve an organization made up of countless others… All hell’s gonna break loose.
A lotta folks will be upset with the decision.
Opposition will come in droves from the biggest yakuza clans in Japan.
No possible way we could hold ’em back.
But hey, if the Legendary Dragon were with us… maybe things could be different.
HANAWA
Unfortunately, Kazuma Kiryu is dead. Isn’t that right… Joryu?
Or perhaps… you intend to shut me up and go along with Tsuruno-san?
If that’s your decision, there’s little I can do to stop you.
TSURUNO
I promise you, Kiryu-san!
This is the last thing the Omi Alliance will ever ask of ya.
We’ll outwit the Daidoji, and fake yer death again!
Then you’ll have yer old life back.
Pretty good deal, ain’t it? Ya could see those kids in Okinawa again, too.
KIRYU
Enough. Shut the hell up!
TSURUNO
Kiryu-san…?
KIRYU
Killing Hanawa is out of the question. There’s no chance in hell I’d agree to that.
And don’t you ever mention those children again! They have nothing to do with any of this!
KIRYU is handing HANAWA a phone.
KIRYU
Hanawa. Use this to tell Daidoji that you’re okay. We’re done here.
TSURUNO
Really, Kiryu-san? Ya know you’ll look back and regret this someday.
KIRYU
I told you to be quiet.
FADE OUT
OUTSIDE NAMIKI NO. 3 – NIGHT
Outside the building, Daidoji Agents have arrived with a black van. An agent is taking Tsuruno to the van.
HANAWA
We’ll keep Tsuruno at our Sotenbori hideout to interrogate him for a while.
How Daidoji decides to deal with Watase depends on what we learn.
KIRYU
Right.
HANAWA
You should come by after you get some rest.
You must be tired after all. I’ll give you directions to the hideout later.
KIRYU
You’re not usually this thoughtful.
HANAWA
Well, you did save my life.
On that note… can I ask you a question?
KIRYU
Hm?
HANAWA
Earlier, it would’ve been so easy to join forces with Tsuruno and shut me up for good.
If a man on the fringes of society like me went missing, no one would ever know.
And the Watase Family’s proposal seems like a good deal.
To see those children again… all you had to do was let me die.
So why did you save me?
KIRYU
I approached the Daidoji and declared I would die.
I’m in no position to want anything from life. Not anymore.
How could I let someone else die for the sake of a dead man?
HANAWA
That’s a legendary yakuza for you. Sticking to your guns ’til the bitter end, no matter what.
KIRYU
It’s not like that.
I’ve just known plenty of people who lost their lives pursuing what they believed in.
And someday, when I see them again… I don’t want to be ashamed of myself.
That’s the only thing I still have power over.
HANAWA
I see.
KIRYU
Did that answer your question?
HANAWA
Yes. Heh. I suppose it did. I’m sorry for keeping you.
Again, you really should go and rest.
KIRYU
…Right.
HANAWA
At this point, it goes without saying, but please keep a low profile.
This is Omi Alliance territory, so there are plenty of people here who might recognize you.
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, go back to Akame at the office. Some roads are blocked by police, so follow a specific path to avoid being caught. As Kiryu, you’ll encounter a young woman at the entrance to the Pocket Circuit bar. She’ll ask if you’re into Pocket Circuit races, which Kiryu used to be heavily involved in. You both enter the bar, where you’ll receive an introduction to Pocket Circuit racing. Playing is optional; you can leave the bar whenever you like to continue with the story – returning to Akame in the office.
CUTSCENE 20 – RETURN TO THE OFFICE
OFFICE – NIGHT
KIRYU enters the office and is greeted by AKAME.
AKAME
Oh! Joryu. I’ve been waitin’ on ya. If you’ve got a minute, I have a ton of work for ya!
KIRYU
I just finished a kidnapped ally, but sure. Guess that means I’m available now.
AKAME
That was some fine work! Ya really made an impression at the Castle Coliseum. I hear they’re still chantin’ yer name…
KIRYU
Oh? And does that mean something?
AKAME
It means ya got ’em hooked! These hard-ta-please elites are just itchin’ to watch ya fight again. Some are sayin’ ya could make champion! Think of it – No more playin’ second banana to these puffed up, big-name fighters. That spotlight could be all yers!
You’ll be facin’ off against some of the world’s roughest and toughest fighters. How’s that for a notch in yer belt?
C’mon, Joryu… We both know deep down yer a bruiser at heart. Always will be.
Ya can’t resist the call of the brawl forever. Am I right, or am I right?
KIRYU
…Could be something to do, I guess. But I’m done with most of my business in Sotenbori.
I don’t want you having to call in a helicopter on my behalf every time I’d need to get into the ring.
AKAME
Ah, c’mon, yer no stranger! Gettin’ you to and from’s no problem at this point.
Everone at the Castle’s chompin’ at the bit waitin’ for ya to get into the ring.
Not every day a competitor’s in demand like you. Heck, if I got a chance to watch ya fight, I’d be over the damn moon!
So, how ’bout it? We could leave right now!
KIRYU
You seem pretty eager. What’s the rush?
AKAME
Oh, see, I… might’a signed a contract listin’ you as part of the main event.
KIRYU
You what?
AKAME
It was baked into yer registration forms – Ain’t like I did it on purpose! They’re pullin’ some real sneaky sh*t in the fine print these days…
All you gotta do is give ’em one more solid fight. If ya don’t they’re gonna slap me with a hefty breach-of-contract fee, so…
Think of it as helpin’ us both save face. I’m countin’ on ya Joryu!
KIRYU
You’re not leaving me with much of a choice, but all right. I’ll find time to make my way over there.
AKAME
Great! But… y’see, the crowd’s already chantin’ yer name! Those higher-ups are promisin’ a special bonus if ya come tonight!
Financially speakin’ it’d make more sense to go now. And ya wouldn’t wanna let down those devoted fans of yers, right?
KIRYU
Guess you’re really set on this.
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, they have a brief conversation about the upcoming fight. Kiryu’s next opponent at the castle is named Hammerhead. People at the castle mention that Hammerhead has never been defeated since arriving there, indicating a tough challenge. However, Akame is confident that Kiryu will also defeat him. Especially since Mizorogi, located in the northwest corner of the map at the weapon shop, has another gadget for Kiryu called The Serpent – Weaponized footwear. Therefore, the next destination is the weapon shop.
Follow the mission marker to the shop, where Mizorogi is already waiting, handing over the Serpent – a pair of new shoes.
You are now ready to head back to Akame and fly back to the Castle. Akame will introduce Joryu to the “Boutique,” which is located right next to the entrance of the Coliseum. In this shop, you can purchase clothes, accessories, and masks to customize Kiryu’s appearance in-game, both during fights and outside of fights.
After discarding the pink mask, go to the Coliseum and speak with the receptionist. Hammerhead is not a formidable opponent and can be swiftly defeated. Following the fight, Joryu attains the Castle’s Silver Rank and gains access to the fighters’ lounge, where he encounters Hammerhead once again. Hammerhead expresses interest in becoming Kiryu’s apprentice, triggering the introduction of the “Hell Team Rumble.” The team fighting in the Castle is known by this name. Assemble a team of fighters to participate in these battles, which will increase their levels and allow you to choose more challenging fights. In the corridor of the Coliseum fight reception, there is a recruiter. Pay him 100,000 Yen, and he will find another fighter for you to consider accepting or declining.
After finishing the fight, make your way back to Sotenbori. Mozorogi is waiting to have a brief conversation with you. He commends Kiryu on the fight and shares that there are 4 Kings with platinum rank at the Castle. He eagerly awaits Kiryu’s victory over them. As Kiryu heads back to Akame, Hanawa finally gives him a call.
CUTSCENE 21 – HANAWA CALLS
SOTENBORI – NIGHT
KIRYU picks up the phone to talk to HANAWA
HANAWA
(through the phone)
Joryu, it’s Hanawa. We’ve arrived at the hideout. There is a club called Lady Paradise down an alleyway in West Shofukucho.
Look for the pink lantern on the ground. You’ll find a door nearby surrounded by a chain link fence.
Can you meet me there?
KIRYU
How’s it going with Tsuruno?
HANAWA
No particular problems. He’s behaving himself.
KIRYU
Good. I’ll see you there.
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, you will get a mission marker for the location where Hanawa is keeping Tsuruno. It’s not far from the office at the location shown below. Enter the building triggers another cutscene.
CUTSCENE 22 – HANAWA HIDEOUT
SOTENBORI HIDEOUT – NIGHT
KIRYU enters the Daidoji Hideout in Sotenbori. HANAWA turns around to welcome him.
HANAWA
Joryu. Over here.
KIRYU
Got it. So, the Daidoji have hideouts in Sotenbori too?
HANAWA
They’re all over the country. But admittedly, they’re not usually this crowded.
We’re in a state of emergency. There’s no telling how far word of your survival has spread through Omi ranks.
We’ve currently looking into how to solve this situation.
KIRYU
Tsuruno’s here too?
HANAWA is turning to look at a door at the back.
HANAWA
Yes. He’s in the interrogation room. We haven’t been too rough with him.
KIRYU
Did you get anything out of him?
HANAWA
No. Nothing more than what you and I already know.
YOSHIMURA arrives and joins the two by the door.
YOSHIMURA
Glad to see you made it back safely, Hanawa.
HANAWA
My apologies for making you worry… But what brings you to Osaka?
I don’t remember calling you… Yoshimura-san.
YOSHIMURA
The boss had me come and assist you. No need to glare at me like that.
KIRYU
You left a comrade to die just to save your own hide. Did you expect a warm welcome?
YOSHIMURA
Your efforts to secure Hanawa’s safety are appreciated, Joryu.
However, the fact remains that you disobeyed direct orders I won’t forget that anytime soon.
HANAWA
So? Did you need something?
YOSHIMURA
The boss would like to have a word with you.
YOSHIMURA turns around to look at an AGENT working on a laptop.
AGENT
Over here, please, Hanawa-san. He’s on the line now.
HANAWA
Very well.
AGENT
That means you too, Joryu.
HANAWA
You heard her. Over here.
KIRYU
Who’s this boss of yours?
HANAWA
He’s within the upper echelons of the Daidoji faction. In truth, I don’t know much about him.
KIRYU
So he’s the one pulling the strings, huh?
HANAWA
I won’t say you ought to be nervous, but do try to take this seriously. After all, I have a position to maintain.
They walk to the laptop. On the screen, they see a MYSTERIOUS MAN sitting on the desk. Only his body is shown. The head is not.
MYSTERIOUS MAN
There you are, Hanawa-kun. And this must be Joryu, correct?
HANAWA
That’s right. It’s thanks to him that I’m alive.
MYSTERIOUS MAN
Or you could say it’s thanks to him you were endangered in the first place.
He allowed his identity to be discovered, did he not?
HANAWA
No. Watase of the Omi Alliance was one step ahead of us.
The recent smuggling operation was a ruse to acquire proof of Kazuma Kiryu’s survival.
They outwitted every single one of us.
MYSTERIOUS MAN
Be that as it may, the present state of affairs violates our agreement with Kiryu-san here.
In order to prevent even the slightest breach of information, he decided to die for us.
The terms of our agreement were such that he would conceal the fact of his survival, and permanently disappear from the public.
If he can’t keep his promises, then our deal is meaningless.
Don’t you agree? Kiryu-san?
KIRYU
What would you have me do?
MYSTERIOUS MAN
Get rid of any evidence that points to you being alive. You can start with the man in the cell over there – Tsuruno.
Next, his subordinate, Shishido.
Then you’ll silence Tsuruno’s lackeys – the ones who tortured Hanawa-kun.
They’re all members of the Watase Family, correct? How many in total?
KIRYU
What…?
HANAWA
There were twenty-five.
KIRYU
You must be joking. You want me to kill all of them?
MYSTERIOUS MAN
Yes, and one other… Masaru Watase.
It’s a pity there isn’t some other way to silence them.
But they’re just yakuza – nothing more. Cruelty is the way of the Daidoji.
A word of caution, though. If you fail me in this, you’re next.
If you value your life, then simply deliver proof of your sincerity.
The room is now full of agents standing closely nearby. HANAWA is turning to KIRYU.
HANAWA
I understand how you must be feeling, but please don’t disobey him.
KIRYU
What?
HANAWA
In a large organization like Daidoji, rules must remain ironclad. It’s the only way to maintain order.
These are the sort of people you entered a deal with.
Should you choose to make light of the boss’s words… you won’t be the only one who’s punished.
The very people you gave up your life to protect will be affected.
Do you understand what I’m saying?
FADE OUT
SOTENBORI HIDEOUT – NIGHT
Moments later, KIRYU enters the room, where TSURUNO is being kept. TSURUNO is sitting on the floor, looking up to KIRYU.
TSURUNO
Kiryu-san. Heh, so now it’s yer turn to interrogate me, huh?
He spots a gun in KIRYU’s hand.
TSURUNO
W-Wait! I still haven’t told ya everything!
KIRYU points the gun at TSURUNO.
YOSHIMURA
I really don’t care. I’ve heard enough yakuza bullsh*t for one lifetime.
You know where you stand right now, Joryu? This is your chance to prove your loyalty.
YOSHIMURA’s back is shown, where he’s holding a gun.
HANAWA
He’s right about that. Unfortunately.
TSURUNO
Must be a real tight collar they got ’round your neck, huh.
KIRYU grabs HANAWA and points his gun at HANAWA’s head.
KIRYU
All of you, stay back.
YOSHIMURA and the agents don’t react. KIRYU shoots once just in front of an agent’s feet. They all jump backward.
KIRYU
Tsuruno, go. You’ll be safe if you make it out of the building.
It’s crawling with Omi out there.
YOSHIMURA
You’ve really f*cked up now, Joryu!
KIRYU
The hell are you doing, Tsuruno? Just go!
TSURUNO starts running toward the exit, brawling over the agents that stand in his way. YOSHIMURA draws his gun, and points it at fleeing TSURUNO. KIRYU shoots twice in the air. When he sees that TSURUNO successfully left the room, he pushes HANAWA forward to the other agents. He then throws his gun away and the agents get ready to fight.
HANAWA
Just what, exactly, were you planning to do next? If it was just you, then maybe you could escape.
The children in Okinawa, though…
KIRYU
Shut up! I won’t let ya lay a finger on them.
HANAWA
In that case, I’m afraid you’ve made an irreparable mistake. Truly, how regrettable.
They all get in fighting position.
After the cutscene, defeat Hanawa, Yoshimura, and the rest of the Daidoji agents.
CUTSCENE 23 – DAIDOJI AGENTS DEFEATED
SOTENBORI HIDEOUT – NIGHT
After defeating the Daidoji Agents, KIRYU grabs his phone to make a call. HANAWA talks to him from behind.
HANAWA
Please, you must hang up the phone!
KIRYU turns around and sees HANAWA standing up, with his phone in his hand.
HANAWA
You’re trying to reach Morning Glory Orphanage, aren’t you?
Did you plan to tell the children to run? It’s too late for that.
I never wanted things to turn out like this… but you’ve forced my hand Kiryu-san.
Daidoji agents are already in position. In Okinawa. Outside of Morning Glory.
HANAWA’s phone shows a live stream of a group of agents with weapons standing in front of the orphanage.
HANAWA
There are as many agents as there are children.
KIRYU
Hanawa!
A WOMAN has picked up KIRYU’s call. KIRYU’s looking down on the phone, not replying.
WOMAN
Um… Hello? Okay… I’m hanging up, then.
HANAWA still holding up his phone with the live stream.
HANAWA
If I give them the signal, they will immediately get into position.
The Daidoji were right to take precautions against you. This is live footage.
Everyone, can you give us a wave?
KIRYU
Fine, Hanawa… Call off your men from Morning Glory. Please.
HANAWA
I will. As soon as you demonstrate your willingness to obey.
You understand, don’t you? I don’t want to do this either.
KIRYU throws away his phone, drops to his knees, and puts his hands on his head.
HANAWA
Kazuma Kiryu is now Joryu again. Pull out of Morning Glory. Leave the rest to me.
It’s truly a pity that it had to come to this.
Why did you do something so foolish!? All you had to do was shoot Tsuruno!
FADE OUT
SOTENBORI HIDEOUT – NIGHT
KIRYU is now locked up in the same room as TSURUNO was. In handcuffs, he talks to himself.
KIRYU
How… could I let this happen…
FADE OUT.
