This is the complete step-by-step walkthrough of Chapter 1: Hidden Dragon – Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
Chapter 1 starts where the Prologue ended: Kiryu meditating at the temple. Here’s how the story continues.
CUTSCENE 1 – TEMPLE IN TOKYO
A TEMPLE IN TOKYO – DAYTIME
KIRYU is meditating in a blue kimono near the entrance of a room, facing the inner temple courtyard. A MONK is playing the game of “GO” inside the room, in the background.
A Man, HANAWA, approaches.
HANAWA
I see you’re deep in thought again, Kiryu-san.
KIRYU
If you see me concentrating, then why are you talking to me?
HANAWA
Your concentration is weak if something like that disturbed you.
The MONK in the room is listening and has something to say to Hanawa.
MONK
You’re quite unsparing in your criticism, Hanawa-san.
HANAWA
This man is just a guest, not a real acolyte.
Don’t mind him.
MONK
I appreciate the concern.
Hanawa turns away from the MONK to talk to KIRYU.
HANAWA
I have another job for you. As Joryu.
KIRYU
Didn’t I just do that bodyguard job for you?
The one for Yutaka Ogikubo’s granddaughter.
HANAWA
Oh, you mean the job you completed several months ago?
And Ogikubo-sensei is a leading figure in the Daidoji faction.
Show him some respect.
KIRYU
Hard to show respect to a man I haven’t even met.
HANAWA
Look – you may have been a legendary yakuza,
but that time is over.
Besides, will you just loaf around eating free meals your entire time here?
KIRYU
I swore I’d take your secrets to the grave.
HANAWA
And?
KIRYU
Minoru Daidoji – The Fixer – controlled Japan’s politics and economy in the shadows, from the postwar period until his death.
If you want that to stay buried, we each have a price to pay.
I faked my death and gave up my old life.
Even my old name.
All you’re doing is paying for my meals.
Who are you to lecture me about freeloading?
HANAWA
Don’t forget we also help to keep Morning Glory running.
That orphanage in Okinawa has a chronic cash flow problem.
We go to great lengths – even running the transactions through multiple dummy accounts – to ensure the support can’t be traced back to Daidoji.
It’s not much, but if those payments were to suddenly dry up, what would happen to those poor children?
MONK
What a rousing argument you have going on.
HANAWA
All we ask is that you work a few jobs a year.
Moreover, it would be in your best interests to continue to show us that you aren’t our enemy.
A promise is built on mutual trust.
And trust is fostered through daily communication.
You don’t need to worry.
As usual, it’s a simple assignment – no dirty work.
Do understand we’re giving you special treatment, despite your distaste.
Consider it a sign of our respect.
FADE OUT
A TEMPLE IN TOKYO – DAYTIME
At the same location as before, KIRYU remains seated while HANAWA now joins him, handing over a tablet.
HANAWA
Now, regarding the assignment…
You will be tasked with security in a smuggling operation.
On the tablet, one can see an image of a container yard at the docks. Both are looking at it.
KIRYU
This is already starting to sound pretty shady.
HANAWA
Funny, coming from an ex-yakuza.
You won’t be expected to use force.
The client is the leader of a rebel group under an authoritarian regime in Asia.
In our eyes, they’re a band of freedom fighters, but in their own home, they’re considered terrorists.
KIRYU
Terrorists?
HANAWA
The leader wants certain goods they acquired in Japan to be
delivered to him so he can fill his war chest.
The Daidoji faction is going to help him accomplish this.
KIRYU
So how do I fit into all this?
HANAWA
Well, let me finish.
He originally went to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency for help.
Who better to go to than some fellow dictator-hating freedom-lovers?
The CIA often turns to us for this sort of delicate, under-the-table job.
In their words, we’re to transport a “Promising revolutionary’s property” out of Japan.
However, there can be no evidence that Japan or the United States were ever involved.
KIRYU
And what is this property?
HANAWA
A boat’s worth of gold bullion – yet, in this day and age.
Hence the need for manpower.
KIRYU
I see.
HANAWA
Your assignment is to stand guard until the bullion is loaded onto a ship.
Several agents with the faction will be present, including me.
All you have to do is stand there.
Like I said, it’s simple.
KIRYU
I thought the Daidoji were loyal patriots.
Isn’t this kind of thing beneath you?
HANAWA
Our organizational power is necessary to make this job possible.
Exporting gold bullion is a legal nightmare.
Influential figures in the faction had to pull whatever strings they could to make it happen.
Trust me, neither the CIA nor the revolutionary leader will forget the favor.
KIRYU
Is that so…
HANAWA
Consider it one way of earning money under the table.
Actions like this help strengthen the Daidoji.
A swan may appear to swim gracefully, but beneath the water, its legs are feverishly scrambling.
KIRYU
Are we going to hell for talking about this here?
MONK
What was that? My hearing has been getting worse lately…
HANAWA
Seems as though we’re in the clear.
KIRYU
Either way, that’s not my kind of work.
HANAWA
Am I interrupting other plans?
You have somewhere else you need to be?
Remember, should you leave here and the world finds out that Kazuma Kiryu lives…
We would see that as a promise broken.
And if that happens, you won’t be the only one who suffers.
Think of the people, the children you threw your life away to protect.
KIRYU
I’ve heard this a hundred times. I get it.
I’m the one who proposed this pact in the first place.
HANAWA
As long as we’re clear.
Shall we continue with the rest of the briefing?
FADE OUT
CUTSCENE 2 – PORT OF YOKOHAMA
THE PORT OF YOKOHAMA – NIGHTTIME
A wide road at the Port of Yokohama, with many vibrant shipping containers and numerous men in black suits patrolling the area.
HANAWA and KIRYU standing together at the side of the road.
HANAWA
A semi-truck carrying the gold is on its way here.
KIRYU
I see.
HANAWA
There’s still some time before it arrives.
Feel free to relax for now.
Until that gold makes it on the ship, everyone in a one-kilometer radius is working for us.
They’re all Daidoji agents – they can handle themselves.
Your only task is to stand here with them.
KIRYU
Wasn’t the operation supposed to be secret?
This sounds extensive.
HANAWA
There is a big reward in it for us.
We have to show the client we’re taking this seriously.
KIRYU
So we’ve all just been gathered here for show…
HANAWA
I’m going to go check on the others. Are you fine by yourself?
KIRYU
…Do they know who I am?
HANAWA
No, all they know is that you’re one of their associates.
They all address each other by codenames as well.
Do take care not to inadvertently reveal yourself.
FADE OUT
1 – TAKE A LOOK AROUND THE AREA
As the cutscene ends, you’ll be able to control Kiryu. Look for the objective in the top right, explore the area, and check the overall map in the game menu. Don’t forget to interact with other agents on your way to the yellow mission marker. Some of them might have useful items for you. At this location, another cutscene starts.
CUTSCENE 3 – AGENTS AT PORT OF YOKOHAMA
THE PORT OF YOKOHAMA – NIGHTTIME
While patrolling the area, the LEADER OF A GROUP OF AGENTS starts a conversation with KIRYU.
LEADER OF A GROUP OF AGENTS
Hey, where do you think you’re going?
KIRYU turns around to see who’s talking to him. A group of Agents approach from the back.
KIRYU
I’m not going anywhere. Just stretching my legs.
LEADER OF A GROUP OF AGENTS
Don’t abandon your post like that. I’m covering this area.
Get back where you belong.
KIRYU
Right.
KIRYU moves away, and the LEADER OF A GROUP keeps talking.
LEADER OF A GROUP OF AGENTS
Same old story. No matter how great you are,
age turns us all into miserable old bastards.
Even you, the Dragon of Dojima!
KIRYU stops and turns around towards the LEADER OF A GROUP.
LEADER OF A GROUP OF AGENTS
Kazuma Kiryu, formerly the fourth chairman of the Tojo Clan!
Guess it’s been three years now.
I actually played a small part in faking your death.
Man, what a pain in the a*s that was. Still never got any thanks for it.
What? No need to play dumb. We work for the same people.
Nobody cares whether some yakuza is dead or alive.
But this has got me wondering…
Is the legendary yakuza as strong as they say?
You were the number one brawler in town, weren’t you?
Think you could go toe-to-toe with a bunch of tough guys like us?
KIRYU
Oh, I see. So that’s how it’s gonna be.
LEADER OF A GROUP OF AGENTS
What is?
KIRYU
You want me to go back to my post?
Or you want me to take the bait?
KIRYU takes off his glasses, puts them somewhere safe, and prepares to fight.
KIRYU
Doesn’t matter to me.
LEADER OF A GROUP OF AGENTS
All right! That’s what I’m talking about!
MEMBER OF A GROUP OF AGENTS
Don’t go too hard on him just because he’s yakuza.
Hold back a little, all right?
LEADER OF A GROUP OF AGENTS
Oh, there’s no way the Legendary Dragon could be that weak.
And if he was, how would he live with himself?
KIRYU
Yeah… That’s a good question.
LEADER OF A GROUP OF AGENTS
Okay, you ready? Why don’t we start off with some nice, slow right jabs?
Just promise me you won’t go down in one hit! Here it comes!
FADE OUT
The cutscene fades out, leading to the fight with the Agent. Immediately, Heat Actions and the Heat Gauge are explained – refer to the screenshot below. You then have to use Heat Action once to continue. Head Action can only be used when the enemy is downed.
Defeat the Leader of the Group of Agents in the fight.
CUTSCENE 4 – AFTER THE FIGHT WITH THE LEADER OF THE AGENTS
The rest of the Group of Agents will now attack. Extreme Heat Mode is introduced to the game and as a tutorial, you have to activate it once. Defeat them all to continue.
CUTSCENE 4 – AFTER THE FIGHT WITH THE AGENTS
THE PORT OF YOKOHAMA – NIGHTTIME
The GROUP OF AGENTS is defeated. HANAWA is approaching from the back.
HANAWA
Looks like you enjoyed yourselves.
Can you return to your posts now?
Fortunately, the truck seems to be running a little late.
I’ll pretend I didn’t see you goofing off.
HANAWA looking at KIRYU, who’s standing next to him.
HANAWA
You’re looking more like a technical fighter now.
Well? Neutralizing the enemy methodically is smarter than a street fight, is it not?
KIRYU
I only bothered to learn it to kill time at the temple.
I was only killing time with this fight, too.
Same story for the rest of my life.
HANAWA
I can’t say I’ll ever understand someone who lives to fight others.
KIRYU
Then keep your nose out of it.
HANAWA
I’ll be careful in the future.
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, Hanawa will then give you a catalog. This is the way the game’s character upgrade works. You can either obtain those catalogs while you advance in the game or you can buy them. But they’re expensive. Access character upgrades through the in-game menu.
CUTSCENE 5 – AFTER RECEIVING THE UPGRADE CATALOG
THE PORT OF YOKOHAMA – NIGHTTIME
HANAWA and KIRYU are still standing together at the docks.
KIRYU
Is this going to be an issue?
It looks like everyone here knows who I am now.
The camera shows a couple of agents talking, then returns to Hanawa and Kiryu.
HANAWA
It’s not a problem, provided it doesn’t get out.
KIRYU
You have a lot of faith in Daidoji. Maybe too much, if you ask me.
HANAWA
No organization is perfect,
but we’re certainly better than the Tojo clan.
KIRYU
Oh?
HANAWA
They were wiped out in the Kamurocho cleanup operation two years ago.
Because of the governor’s so-called 3K Plan.
The chairman and his officers were the first to disappear.
Now, the Omi Alliance has taken over Kamurocho.
And the man who pulled the trigger on it all was a trifling
Tojo Clan officer: Masumi Arakawa.
If one traitor can bring down an entire clan,
then perhaps the foundations were fragile to begin with.
We intend to learn from their mistakes.
KIRYU
I say one thing and this is what I get from you, huh?
HANAWA
All right, I’ll refrain from insulting the Tojo Clan any further.
It’s the organization you devoted the majority of your life to, after all.
KIRYU
Not only my own.
All of the people I’ve cared about…
Their lives were inextricably tied to the Tojo Clan.
For all that to go up in smoke… I still can’t believe it’s real.
HANAWA
I don’t think this will come as any consolation, but…
KIRYU
Hm?
HANAWA
The days when yakuza could go strutting around in the open are over.
I think the Tojo Clan was destined to disappear, no matter what.
Inevitably, the Omi Alliance pushing in from Kansai will suffer
the same fate as well.
It’s only a matter of time.
KIRYU
You were right.
HANAWA
About what?
KIRYU
That was no consolation.
KIRYU walks away behind HANAWA.
HANAWA
Heh. Sorry to hear that.
FADE OUT
LATER AT THE SAME DOCKS
A truck and a minivan are arriving at the docks. Agents observe them from a distance.
AGENT
(talking to his earpiece)
The truck’s here.
It’s ten minutes behind schedule.
The camera moves to HANAWA, standing somewhere central, KIRYU not with him.
HANAWA
(talking to his earpiece)
Copy that.
Anything out of the ordinary?
The camera shows the two vehicles approaching.
AGENT
(talking to his earpiece)
There’s a van with the truck. Seems like it’s guiding it along.
That okay?
The camera now showing HANAWA again.
HANAWA
(talking to his earpiece)
It’s not just the truck?
AGENT
(through HANAWA’s earpiece)
Yeah. A black van.
The truck’s following it.
HANAWA
(talking to his earpiece)
Stop both vehicles immediately!
Another vehicle wasn’t part of the plan!
HANAWA and his group begin running towards the arriving vehicles.
The first group of Agents is now trying to stop the vehicles by standing in their way and waving. The van stops, and the truck continues on.
AGENT
(talking to his earpiece)
The truck’s coming right for us!
It’s not stopping!
The truck is arriving in front of another group of agents, stopping and opening the side of the container. Hostiles with baseball bats and other weapons exit. They start beating up the Agents.
HOSTILES
All right! Let’s f*ck ’em up!
Hell yeah!
Get ’em!
HANAWA
(watching from the distance)
What!?
Two hostiles are now throwing Molotov cocktails at at least two Agents, the rest of the Agents near Hanawa are now running towards the fight. The LEADER OF THE GROUP OF AGENTS who fought with KIRYU arrives next to HANAWA, coming from the back.
LEADER OF THE GROUP OF AGENTS
Who are these guys!?
A Hostile, clearly the LEADER, now exits the truck wearing a traditional Japanese mask with two long horns, observing the area. Hanawa in the meantime, is looking at the now open truck and realizes that it is empty.
HANAWA
(talking to his earpiece)
The container’s empty. The deal’s off!
I repeat – the deal is off!
Everyone not on site, pull out immediately!
KIRYU now approaching from the back, ready to fight. Some hostiles spot him and storm towards KIRYU.
KIRYU
Let’s get this started.
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, the hostiles are named “Mysterious Men”. You now have to fight a group of them.
CUTSCENE 6 – THE FIGHT IS IN FULL SWING
THE PORT OF YOKOHAMA – NIGHTTIME
The fight is intense, as KIRYU fends off multiple Mysterious Men. The camera then focuses on the LEADER OF THE GROUP OF AGENTS, wielding a wakizashi-like short sword. Suddenly, the JAPANESE MASK LEADER sneaks up from behind and strikes him with a baseball bat. He falls to the ground, blood splattering onto HANAWA’s face nearby. Distracted, HANAWA is then attacked and beaten by one of the other Mysterious Men.
HANAWA is falling to the ground, lying on the floor with his face up. The ATTACKER bends down and grabs HANAWA’s face.
ATTACKER
Aniki! This here’s Hanawa.
He looks to the JAPANESE MASK LEADER, who stands close.
ATTACKER
(calls for some support)
Hey’gimme a hand here! Chop chop!
The JAPANESE MASK LEADER walks away, while the Mysterious Men are picking up HANAWA.
FADE OUT
IN A DIFFERENT AREA OF THE DOCKS, SAME ROAD
KIRYU is involved in intense fighting. Suddenly, the black Minivan arrives and KIRYU watches the MYSTERIOUS MEN carrying someone towards the Minivan.
HANAWA
(barely conscious)
What are you-
KIRYU
(realizing it’s Hanawa)
Hanawa!?
KIRYU starts running to the Minivan.
HANAWA
(barely conscious)
No, stop…
The Minivan opens the side door and a MAN FROM THE VAN is exiting.
MYSTERIOUS MAN
(to the MAN FROM THE VAN)
That’s the guy, right?
MAN FROM THE VAN
Throw him in!
KIRYU has arrived at the Minivan is standing between the van, the MAN FROM THE VAN, and the MYSTERIOUS MEN.
KIRYU
So your goal was to kidnap Hanawa this whole time?
And the gold-smuggling story was just a ruse?
The MAN FROM THE VAN attacks KIRYU with a fist but KIRYU blocks it with just one flat hand.
MAN FROM THE VAN
Son of a –
KIRYU
Who the hell are you?
MAN FROM THE VAN
(recognising KIRYU)
You’re…
No f*ckin’ way! Kiryu!?
One of the mysterious men is attacking with a baseball bat and KIRYU fights both of them off.
HANAWA
(still lying on the floor)
Just what is going on?
KIRYU
We’ll figure it out later.
All around HANAWA and KIRYU, the beaten Mysterious Men start to stand up.
KIRYU
(To HANAWA)
Can you stand?
HANAWA
(confused, still lying on the floor)
They tried to kidnap me?
But why?
KIRYU
(yelling)
Hanawa!
HANAWA
(alert, looking at KIRYU)
Er – Right!
HANAWA is standing up. KIRYU and him now standing back to back.
HANAWA
I guess it’s time for me to protect myself.
I’ll hold out as long as I can!
KIRYU
All right, then!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, you’re fighting against the group of Mysterious Men. Beat them to continue.
CUTSCENE 7 – HANAWA SAVED
THE PORT OF YOKOHAMA – NIGHTTIME
KIRYU and HANAWA have defeated the group of Mysterious Men. A MYSTERIOUS MAN is getting up, looking at KIRYU.
MYSTERIOUS MAN
Sh*t. We’re outta time.
The minivan stops behind them, opens the door and the remaining Mysterious Men get inside. KIRYU watches how they drive off. Then, he returns to HANAWA.
KURYU
You okay, Hanawa? Still with me?
HANAWA
(weak)
Yes, somehow.
KIRYU
How are your injuries?
HANAWA
We can worry about that later.
First, we have to get out of here… and fast.
The police and fire department will be here any minute…
We can’t afford to be seen.
KIRYU
If you’re lucid enough to strategize like that,
then you can’t be too bad off.
AGENT
(approaching)
Hanawa-san…
The assailants have escaped.
There were many injured, and… three fatalities.
KIRYU
What…?
HANAWA
(concerned)
I see…
FADE OUT
MOMENTS LATER, SAME LOCATION
Black limousines are at the location, starting to drive off.
AGENT
Hurry! The fire department is almost here.
Agents are loading the dead body of the LEADER OF THE GROUP OF AGENTS into a trunk.
FADE OUT
THE TEMPLE – DAYTIME
KIRYU and the MONKat their usual place. KIRYU looking out into the sand garden. HANAWA arrives, a tablet in his hand.
HANAWA
One of the Agents who died at the dock was the man
who picked a fight with you.
HANAWA is sitting down next to KIRYU, showing KIRYU the tablet with images.
HANAWA
He got what was coming to him, you could say.
All three deaths were caused by blunt trauma to the head.
Had their skulls caved in with a metal bat.
It’s as though the attacker didn’t even care if they lived or died.
KIRYU
What about the bodies?
HANAWA
We’ve taken care of them. There will be nothing in the news, either.
There is always a risk of this kind of incident.
That’s why we use people whose deaths won’t raise a fuss.
People just like you.
KIRYU
Hmm…
KIRYU, in a flashback, remembers the mysterious man, who recognized him in the fight.
HANAWA
What is it?
KIRYU
Ah… Don’t worry about it.
KIRYU
(thinking)
The attackers last night may have realized I’m still alive.
It could be bad if the Daidoji learn that.
KIRYU
(talking to HANAWA again)
Hanawa… Any idea who those masked men last night were?
HANAWA
One would think they would be connected to the client who proposed this deal.
The revolutionary in Asia.
Only he or the CIA could have gotten men on that truck beforehand.
And if it were the CIA, they wouldn’t have needed to go to such lengths to abduct me.
KIRYU
The revolutionary…
HANAWA
When we reached out to him, he firmly denied any involvement.
Apparently, this plan to smuggle gold took him by surprise.
Says he hasn’t asked the CIA a thing.
KIRYU
What?
HANAWA
Our working theory is that a bad actor – let’s call him Mr. X – impersonated the revolutionary…
And then went to the CIA with this bogus deal,
which then led them to get us involved.
Mr. X’s objective must have been… to abduct me.
KIRYU
Why you?
HANAWA
I have no idea.
I’m nothing but a cog in this organization.
There would be no point in staging all this just for me.
Unless we talk to this Mr. X, we won’t know what really happened last night.
The full weight of the Daidoji faction has been searching high and low.
But so far, we’ve come up with zero clues.
KIRYU
I can’t imagine the Daidoji mobilizing all their resources for a so-called “cog”.
HANAWA
You don’t mince words, do you? But you’re not incorrect.
That’s why I decided to launch my own little investigation
through other avenues.
And the reason I’ve come here today.
KIRYU
Hm?
HANAWA
Didn’t you notice?
Several of the masked men had tattoos.
In particular, the man in the hannya mask who killed our agents
had quite the extravagant one.
KIRYU
Didn’t see that. Guess we didn’t cross paths.
HANAWA
It appeared to be of quite fine quality…
Which would suggest he’s a yakuza from a rather important family.
KIRYU
So?
HANAWA
There’s an old family in Yokohama called the Seiryu Clan.
Perhaps they were involved with this attack.
Can you look into it? Or course, I’m not asking you to just
waltz into their office.
KIRYU
Wait. We can’t assume it was local yakuza just because
someone had a tattoo.
If this is your lead on Mr. X, I’d say it’s a pretty weak one.
HANAWA
I agree. Which is why I have other agents investigating more promising leads.
But who better to look into the yakuza than you?
I’d like to pursue every possibility and determine the truth as quickly as possible.
KIRYU
All right, then. Got it.
HANAWA
Are we all set?
KIRYU
Under one condition. I’m interested in this Mr. X’s identity myself.
If you learn anything, fill me in.
HANAWA
It’s rare to see you so enthusiastic.
Are you worried they might come after me again?
If so, I’m touched.
KIRYU
Yeah… maybe I am.
HANAWA
Kind of you to pretend. In any case, do be careful.
There may be people in the Seiryu Clan who know your face.
For now, find out what’s going on at their office.
You can observe them from a distance.
FADE OUT
2 – HEAD TO THE SEIRYU CLAN’S OFFICE
Kiryu is now back in good old Seiryu. If you have played “Like a Dragon” games before, you know where you care and should be able to keep your bearings. If this is your first game, you can open your ingame menu, select “Task” and you will see the task with a map and the mission marker.
The game will force you to go to a specific route, introducing you to Street Battles, where you can fight for money. Further, the pawn shop, where you can buy gear and sell not-needed items, and OUT OF REACH ITEMS that you can just grab with the Spider Agent Gadget. There are various of those hidden in the map.
Continue on to the Seiryu Clan’s office.
CUTSCENE 8 – YOKOHAMA SEIRYU CLAN HEADQUARTERS
YOKOHAMA SEIRYU CLAN HEADQUARTERS – DAYTIME
KIRYU arrives at the Yokohama Seiryu Clan Headquarters.
KIRYU
(thinking)
This is it. Seiryu Clan HQ.
Figured I wouldn’t be able to tell much off the bat.
I should stick around and see if anything seems suspicious.
A group of Seiryu Clan members is exiting the HQ, and another clan member approaching one of them.
SEIRYU CLAN MEMBER 1
Hey, going somewhere special, Aniki? Back to that soapland?
SEIRYU CLAN MEMBER 2
Shut it. It’s work-related. You’re giving people the wrong idea…
SEIRYU CLAN MEMBER 1
Haha, my bad.
SEIRYU CLAN MEMBER 2
Screw it. I’ll take you with me.
KIRYU observes the scene from above on a small balcony with a gray railing.
KIRYU
(thinking)
I don’t see anything out of the ordinary, and the men aren’t acting suspicious.
This place is too quiet for the Seiryu Clan to have been involved with last night’s attack.
KIRYU is sitting down on a chair just by the gray railing to have a smoke.
KIRYU
As it goes. Didn’t expect anything anyway.
The camera moves to underneath the balcony, where the same SEIRYU CLAN MEMBERS are now sneaking around. Soon after they open the door to KIRYU’s balcony.
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
(to KIRYU)
Hey, you! What are you doing with your nose all up
in our goddamn business?
They all walk to KIRYU, who remains seated but looks at them.
KIRYU
Who are you?
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
Don’t give me that! You know damn well we’re the Seiryu Clan!
KIRYU
Calm down. I’m just having a little smoke break.
Sorry if I caused a misunderstanding.
KIRYU is now standing up from his chair.
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
Yeah, okay… Maybe I would have believed you if you weren’t
so calm in the face of yakuza.
KIRYU
All right, I’m leaving. Will that work for you?
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
Hell no. Not until you tell us why you were staring at our office.
We’ll even give you a tour. C’mon, don’t be shy.
Not like you’re gonna learn anything from way over here.
Oh, and by the way… You’re one of them Daidoji, aren’t you?
KIRYU
What?
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
Now we get a reaction out of you.
Just got an anonymous message… It came with this photo.
The SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER takes out his phone and shows an image from KIRYU. It shows him standing at the balcony railing looking at the HQ building from the side. Someone had taken the image from higher up just moments ago.
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
Says you work for the Daidoji, too, real polite-like.
KIRYU is looking up to the location where the image must have been taken from.
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
You were spying on us, but it looks like someone else was spying on you the whole time. Not so smart, are you?
So, who the hell are the Daidoji?
And what do they want with us?
KIRYU
You know who sent you that photo? They say anything else?
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
Nah, nothing.
But they were right on the money about you snooping around here.
One of the Seiryu Clan members grabs a fire distinguished and attacks KIRYU with it.
SEIRYU CLAN MEMBER
Take this!
KIRYU dodges and defends himself.
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
Rrrgh… You bastard!
The Seiryu clan members prepare for the fight.
KIRYU
I’m interested in knowing who sent you that photo.
But I have no business with you. Let me pass.
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
You must be a real birdbrain if you think I’d buy that!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, fight and defeat the Seiryu clan.
CUTSCENE 9 – BALCONY ABOVE THE SEIRYU CLAN HQ
BALCONY – DAYTIME
On the balcony, just above the Seiryu Clan’s HQ, KIRYU has defeated the Seiryu Clan Members, goes to the leader and takes his phone.
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
(to KIRYU)
You son of a… How dare you…
KIRYU is accessing the phone.
KIRYU
Sorry, but I need to know who snitched.
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
You piece of sh*t!
KIRYU
Any chance you guys visited any docks last night?
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
What? Hell if I know.
KIRYU
Yeah, thought so.
Is today the first time you got a message from this guy?
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
Why the hell… should I tell you anything?
KIRYU
I suppose you shouldn’t.
How about you forget about me, and I’ll forget about this.
You wouldn’t want it getting out that you failed ganging up on a spy, would you?
Seems like a bad look for the Seiryu Clan.
Either way, we won’t be seeing each other again.
Sorry for the trouble.
KIRYU is walking towards the exit.
SEIRYU CLAN GROUP LEADER
Hey! You get your a*s back here! You think this is over!? Hey!
FADE OUT
SEIRYU, YOKOHAMA – DAYTIME
KIRYU is heading back, walking down a Seiryu alley. He talks to HANAWA on the phone.
HANAWA
(Through KIRYU’s phone)
Interesting… So the Seiryu Clan had nothing to do with the attack?
KIRYU
Most likely… but you never thought they did, did you?
More importantly, it appears someone is watching me.
Someone who knows I’m working for the Daidoji.
HANAWA
(Through KIRYU’s phone)
Right… The sender of the anonymous message.
From the timing, we can assume they’re connected to the attack on the dock.
Must be Mr. X himself, or someone working with him.
Furthermore… They could be watching you as we speak, correct?
The camera zooms out and there are two men following KIRYU.
KIRYU
Yeah… Does feel like I’ve got eyes on me.
Guess they’ve been tailing me for a while.
HANAWA
(Through KIRYU’s phone)
Can you lose them?
KIRYU
I could try, but… this is our first solid lead.
There is a better way to handle this, isn’t there?
HANAWA
(Through KIRYU’s phone)
Such as?
KIRYU
I’ll lead them somewhere nice and quiet – then grab them.
Once I shake them up, I’ll see what they know about Mr. X.
Can’t be more than two men tailing me. A simple task.
HANAWA
(Through KIRYU’s phone)
I see… Indeed, I suppose that would be no problem for you.
All right, then. I’ll head to where you are.
Do be careful.
KIRYU puts his phone away and disappears around the corner into a garage. The two followers behind him. Inside the garage, he turns around for the first time.
KIRYU
You’ve got business with me, don’t you?
Instead of looking at just two men, there is a group of Mysterious Men wielding baseball bats. Based on the clothing, they’re the same as the ones at the docks.
KIRYU
There’s more of them than I thought…
A MAN IN A SUIT comes up between them.
MAN IN A SUIT
We ain’t gonna hurt ya. Just come with us, nice and quiet.
We already know who you are…
Had a feelin’ your “death” was a pile o’ horsesh*t… Kiryu-san.
KIRYU
I don’t know what you’re talking about.
You must be thinking of someone else.
But I’m about to find out exactly who you are.
Tough enough to make demands, are ya?
Sure you’re all right showing me your face?
Everyone else is too shy.
MAN IN A SUIT
I ain’t yer enemy.
But ya think we could talk someplace else?
Someone from Daidoji’s on his way here, ain’t he?
KIRYU
Who knows? Like I said, I have no idea what you’re talking about.
MAN IN A SUIT
If yer gonna play dumb… We’ll jus’ hafta put an end to your act with our fists!
You guys ready? You’re goin’ up against the Dragon of Dojima.
Go at him like ya mean to kill, or you’ll regret it!
Now… Get ‘im, boys!
MYSTERIOUS MEN
Got it, boss!
Raaa!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene in the garage, you have to DEFEAT THE MASKED MEN. After you’ve defeated them, the man in the suit will attack. This will be the first boss fight in the game.
CUTSCENE 10 – MAN IN A SUIT ATTACKING
SEIRYU GARAGE – DAYTIME
One of the Masked Men will launch an attack on KIRYU using a baseball bat, while the MAN IN A SUIT intervenes to stop him. In the scuffle, the MAN IN A SUIT ends up attacking KIRYU, causing his glasses to be knocked off.
MAN IN A SUIT
Finally got to see yer pretty face, Kiryu-san.
KIRYU
Now it’s gotten interesting. So your friends were just the opening act, then…
Who are you guys?
MAN IN A SUIT
It ain’t too late… Jus’ come with us an’ we’ll tell ya everythin’.
KIRYU
Afraid I can’t do that.
MAN IN SUIT
Figured as much… That’s the Dragon of Dojima for ya!
FADE OUT
This will start the boss fight. DEFEAT THE MAN IN A SUIT. In this fight, you’ll also learn how to block Powerful Enemy Attacks.
CUTSCENE 11 – MAN IN A SUIT DEFEATED
SEIRYU GARAGE – DAYTIME
The MAN IN A SUIT is defeated on the floor.
KIRYU
Who are you?
MAN IN A SUIT
Jus’ … Osakan travelers…
… From the Omi Alliance.
You say yer not Kazuma Kiryu, but ya sure know the Omi Alliance, don’tcha?
KIRYU
What are the Omi doing in Yokohama?
MAN IN A SUIT
Well… Why else would we be here? Came lookin’ for you.
Let’s jus’ say there’s folks back in Osaka who still don’t buy
that Kazuma Kiryu kicked the bucket.
KIRYU
Why did you attack the docks last night?
MAN IN A SUIT
If Kazuma Kiryu’s still breathin’, that means somebody went through
a whole mess o’trouble to make it seem otherwise.
Somebody who’s got an in with the cops and the government.
Who could pull off somethin’ like that in Hiroshima,
where you supposedly died?
The Daidoji faction was the first thing that came to mind.
So, we thought we’d try an’ nab that guy who looked like yer handler.
Wanted ta squeeze some info out of ‘im. If you were alive, and if so, where you were holed up.
KIRYU
You were after Hanawa.
MAN IN A SUIT
Yup. So we pretended to be those terrorists an’ chatted up the Americans about smugglin’ gold.
They musta been real suspicious of us, but that’s nothin’ a nice,
fat commission can’t fix.
And sure enough, the CIA went straight to the Daidoji to get that job taken care of.
That’s what we had to go through jus’ to make you guys
come outta the woodwork.
KIRYU
(thinking)
Looks like this guy is Mr. X.
KIRYU
(to the MAN IN SUIT)
So, from the beginning, you expected the CIA to rely on the Daidoji for the smuggling.
MAN IN A SUIT
Yep. But when we saw you last night, in the flesh…
Well, there was no need to bother with the other guy after that.
Might as well make contact with you directly.
KIRYU
That guy you didn’t need to bother with is here to pick me up.
At this moment, HANAWA is driving into the garage to pick up KIRYU. He puts the window down to talk to KIRYU.
HANAWA
Fine work as usual, Joryu, defeating all your pursuers in one fell swoop.
But I believe you said there would be no more than two…
KIRYU starts to help the MAN IN A SUIT up to put it in the car.
KIRYU
I still got the job done, didn’t I?
HANAWA
Indeed, but there may be more on the way.
We should get out of here immediately.
And you – mind introducing yourself?
KIRYU
He hasn’t told me his name. Only that he’s from the Omi Alliance.
HANAWA
Then why don’t we continue this conversation in the car?
We’ll have plenty of time to learn all we need.
FADE OUT
INSIDE THE CAR – DUSK
Inside the car, HANAWA is driving, while KIRYU and the MAN IN A SUIT are in the back.
HANAWA
I see.
So the Omi Alliance coordinated last night’s attack in order to locate Kazuma Kiryu?
KIRYU
Yeah. But they’ve got the wrong guy.
They keep calling me Kiryu.
MAN IN A SUIT
Ain’t no point tryin’ to play dumb.
I’m just doin’ the job they gave me.
HANAWA
How interesting.
I hope you know won’t let you go until you tell us who put you up to this.
MAN IN A SUIT
You doin’ the interrogation all by herself,
are ya, Hanawa-san?
HANAWA
So what if I am?
MAN IN A SUIT
Well, that’d mean…
Right now, yer the only one stuck on Kiryu-san.
Ain’t that right?
KIRYU
What’s that supposed to mean?
Just what are you –
In this moment, the black minivan is forcefully colliding with HANAWA’s car from the side. HANAWA and KIRYU are unconscious. The cars stop right at the homeless housing and they see everything.
HOMELESS PERSON
That van just rammed right into that car!
KIRYU comes to, looks out of the window, and sees the MAN IN A HANNYA MASK getting out of the minivan.
KIRYU
The man in the Hannya mask.
The MAN IN A HANNYA MASK approaches with a baseball bat and smashes KIRYU’s window.
HOMELESS PERSON
Sh*t, let’s beat it!
The MAN IN A HANNYA MASK pulls KIRYU out of the car. KIRYU stays down on the pavement while the MAN IN A SUIT stands unharmed above him, pulling apart his write restraints.
MAN IN A SUIT
Come with us, Kiryu-san.
We want yer help.
KIRYU gets up and looks at him.
KIRYU
I’m not Kiryu.
But…
If it’s a fight you’re looking for, I’ll give it to you.
MAN IN A SUIT
Oh, I see now. Daidoji faction’s got ya by the balls.
If ya want, we can make ’em loosen that grip.
KIRYU
What did you say?
MAN IN A SUIT
Shishido. Get ‘im.
He’s the only fella from Daidoji here right now.
The MAN IN A HANNYA MASK is grabbing HANAWA from behind the steering wheel and pulling him out. Then he pulls a knife and swings to stab HANAWA. KIRYU goes in between and holds the wrist with the knife.
KIRYU
You have no problem killing people, do you?
What’re you after?
MAN IN A HANNYA MASK
And what’s yer deal, reduced to bein’ Daidoji’s dog?
Legendary Dragon, my f*ckin’ a*s!
They both wrestle for the knife and then KIRYU pushes him away. HANAWA is now up, next to the car, and watching.
HANAWA
To these guys, you’re just an obstacle.
So it would seem.
MAN IN A SUIT
Shishido. No knives.
We wouldn’t want to kill Kiryu-san, would we?
The MAN IN A HANNYA MASK is throwing away the knife.
MAN IN A HANNYA MASK
Fine. I’ll only beat ‘im half to death!
KIRYU
If you’re done talking…
Then let’s go!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, fight and DEFEAT THE MAN IN THE HANNYA MASK.
CUTSCENE 12 – FIGHTING THE MAN IN A HANNYA MASK
CAR ACCIDENT SITE – DUSK
KIRYU and the MAN IN A HANNY MASK are fighting. His mask is broken.
MAN IN A HANNYA MASK
You’re fightin’ awful fancy, ain’t ya… Kiryu-san?
He then takes the mask off.
MAN IN A HANNYA MASK
This ain’t no martial arts contest.
If ya wanna beat me, yer gonna have to kill me.
‘Cause there ain’t no rules…
…when it’s a fight to the death.
KIRYU
Obnoxious bastard.
Fine, I’ll do things your way.
I’ll beat you into submission!
MAN IN A HANNYA MASK
Try me, why don’t ya?
KIRYU takes off his glasses and gets ready to fight.
MAN IN A HANNYA MASK
There ya go. That’s more like it.
But…
I hope ya ain’t all bark and no bite.
KIRYU
Why don’t you come find out?
MAN IN A HANNYA MASK
Oh, I’m comin’! Time for round two!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, you’ll have to fight the man in the hannya mask the second time. But this time you get to use the YAKUZA FIGHT STYLE. It involves brutal punches and kicks. Change the fighting style with the down button to continue. You then get a second objective that you need to pass in order to continue with the story.
CUTSCENE 13 – END OF FIGHT
CAR ACCIDENT SITE – DUSK
The MAN IN A HANNY MASK is defeated. But still, he manages to stand up and finds his knife on the pavement.
KIRYU
Go ahead, pick it up. I don’t mind.
No rules in a fight to the death, right?
MAN IN A HANNYA MASK
Damn geezer… You think you’ve won?
The MAN IN A HANNYA MASK picks up the knife and points it at KIRYU.
MAN IN A SUIT
Enough! We’re outta time!
Kiryu-san… Quit resistin’ and come with us.
The MAN IN A SUIT is standing in front of the open door of the Minivan, HANAWA on his knees in front of him. He’s pointing his gun at HANAWA’s head.
MAN IN A SUIT
Or Hanawa-san’s a dead man.
HANAWA cautiously looks up to the MAN IN A SUIT.
HANAWA
Umm… May I say something?
MAN IN A SUIT
Spit it out.
HANAWA
Joryu, listen to me very carefully.
What’s most important to you?
Who do you want to protect more than anything?
Think about that, and you’ll know what you have to do right now.
What I’m saying is…
Don’t worry about me! I’m a professional.
It’s my own error that got me into this –
At this moment, the MAN IN A SUIT is hitting HANAWA with the gun on the head.
MAN IN A SUIT
Shut it, will ya?
Shishido, what were you plannin’ to do with that knife?
Don’t forget why we’re here. Get in.
MAN IN A HANNYA MASK
But… Captain!
MAN IN A SUIT
Clearly, we underestimated these guys.
Hurry up n’ get in the damn car.
The MAN IN A HANNYA MASK complies and gets to the car. The MAN IN A SUIT is already sitting in the car, holding a phone towards KIRYU.
MAN IN A SUIT
It’s a burner phone, can’t be traced. I’ll contact ya later.
The MAN IN A SUIT throws the phone and KIRYU catches it.
MAN IN A SUIT
Let’s try this again from the top, alright?
But don’t do anything stupid, or Hanawa-san’ll be dead meat.
He’ll be sinkin’ to the bottom of Yokohama Harbor before you can blink.
KIRYU
What are you after?
MAN IN A SUIT
I wanna have a nice, long chat with ya.
Spent a lotta time n’ money for that.
The details can wait.
Cops’ll be here any minute.
KIRYU
At least tell me your name.
MAN IN A SUIT
…It’s Tsuruno. From the Omi Alliance’s Watase Family.
KIRYU
The Watase Family?
TSURUNO
You’re well acquainted with our patriarch, yeah?
Masaru Watase.
He’s the captain of the Omi Alliance…
Which means he’s top dog of the yakuza world.
I’m here because the patriarch needs yer strength.
The minivan is driving off, and KIRYU is turning to the HOMELESS MAN.
KIRYU
Sorry for the trouble – I’ll be out of here in a minute.
Could I get a hand cleaning up?
HOMELESS MAN
Oh, uh, sure!
Just come right this way…
KIRYU
Thanks.
FADE OUT
HOMELESS CAMP – NIGHT
KIRYU has cleaned himself up in the Homeless Camp.
KIRYU
Sorry for the trouble. I owe you one.
HOMELESS MAN
Oh, no skin off my back.
But that was one nasty brawl you got yourself into.
You and that other guy were really something.
We were scared out of our wits! Right guys?
KIRYU
What is this place?
HOMELESS MAN
A homeless camp.
It’s a haven for outcasts like us.
Everyone who ends up living here has been through a whole lot.
Take that tent over there.
That guy was a nurse up until recently.
In fact, he was treating a guy with a gunshot wound just a few days ago.
KIRYU
A gunshot wound?
ANOTHER HOMELESS MAN
Don’t listen to him. This guy’s always exaggeratin’ sh*t.
HOMELESS MAN
I’m not exaggerating! You saw him too, that yakuza-lookin’ guy with scruffy hair!
He’s still sleeping in there right now!
ANOTHER HOMELESS MAN
Keep your voice down! Oh, sh*t… Look over there.
Two police cars arrive and stop at the car accident location.
HOMELESS MAN
We won’t tell the cops a thing.
Don’t want any trouble ’round here.
KIRYU
Sounds good. Thanks.
KIRYU turns away.
KIRYU
(thinking)
Guess I just have to wait until Turuno calls. Nothing else I can do at the moment.
FADE OUT
3 – GET AWAY FROM THE POLICE
In the Homeless Camp of Seiryu, just look at the minimap and you will see where to go. Like when you first arrived in Seiryu, there is only one way to escape from the police. All other paths are blocked for this sequence. Follow the yellow quest marker.
Kiryu will look for a spot where he can quietly have a smoke until things have calmed down. Just follow the yellow quest marker to a place that looks like an improvised chair. Kiryu then notices that he is all out of cigarettes! Go through a building to the other side to find a convenience store – Poppo. Unfortunately, there is a policeman standing in front of the store. When you get the option to either “Monitor the situation” or “Leave the area” choose the first option. The policeman walks away and Kiryu goes shopping.
When you exit the story, you are approached by a group of men.
CUTSCENE 14 – SEIRYU GROUP AFTER SHOPPING
SEIRYU – IN FRONT OF A POPPO – NIGHT
A group of men approach KIRYU just as he exits the Poppo. The LEADER seems to know KIRYU.
LEADER
We lost HANAWA’s GPS signal here.
We need to hear what happened. Get back to the temple now.
KIRYU
Hold on The people responsible for last night’s attack abducted Hanawa.
I’m waiting for a phone call from them.
KIRYU shows them the phone, the LEADER quickly takes it away.
KIRYU
Hey!
LEADER
Like I said, you can tell us everything back at the temple.
KIRYU
Give it back.
LEADER
First, return to the temple. Then, report to us.
I’m in charge of you while Hanawa’s gone.
In other words, I’m your superior. Know your damn place.
FADE OUT
INSIDE A ROOM AT THE TEMPLE – NIGHT
The group, along with their LEADER, are now gathered in a room at the temple with KIRYU to discuss and review recent events.
LEADER
I see… So they called themselves Omi Alliance
But there was no definitive proof of that, was there?
Which means you can’t say for certain if they’re really with the Omi.
KIRYU
Yeah. That’s why I need that phone back.
If they call and I don’t answer it, Hanawa will be in danger.
LEADER
You needn’t worry about that. The phone’s signal has been cut off.
Wouldn’t want a GPS giving our location away.
KIRYU
What…?
LEADER
I’m saying that even if they do call, it won’t go through.
KIRYU
Then… Why did you bring me here!?
LEADER
Who said you could ask questions? Your report’s not over. Let’s hear the rest of it.
KIRYU
Enough of this! I don’t know what’s going on!
The LEADER is threatening KIRYU with a gun.
LEADER
You’re not supposed to! Just who do you think you are?
KIRYU
We can’t afford to be wasting time like this. One of your own was taken hostage!
They’re going to kill HANAWA if I don’t stay in contact!
LEADER
And if they do, it’ll mean he’s done talking.
KIRYU
What…?
LEADER
Hanawa’s capture means we have to resign ourselves to a breach of confidentiality.
After all, if they resort to torture, no way could he keep his lips sealed. This is your fault, Joryu.
But even if things do get out, we’ll just have to retreat underground again.
KIRYU
You’re just going to abandon Hanawa? Before you’ve even tried to save him?
LEADER
If he were truly loyal to the Daidoji, he would have already killed himself.
And if he hasn’t, he’s not worth the risk we’d need to take to save him.
KIRYU
Is that how the Daidoji do things?
Or do you just not want the blame to fall on you for all of this?
LEADER
Don’t speak like you know anything. Get him.
The other men of the group are pressing KIRYU down onto the table.
LEADER
We should have done this from the beginning.
They say you were a legendary yakuza, but in the end, how are you any different from us?
We both operate in the shadows, do we not?
You will get no more special treatment.
When there’s an assignment for you, it will not be pleasant.
And if you refuse… Both you and those children in Okinawa will be punished.
KIRYU
There’s always a guy like you, huh? Disgusting use of power.
LEADER
My name is Yoshimura. I’m looking forward to our time together.
YOSHIMURA is heading to the exit door.
KIRYU
Give me back that phone. They’re going to call.
We can still save Hanawa!
YOSHIMURA is leaving the room. Outside, the MONK walks past towards the room where KIRYU is kept. YOSHIMURA briefly stops and turns around to watch the MONK. Then he continues to go to the exit. The MONK is heading to KIRYU’s room.
Inside, the GROUP OF MEN is still holding down KIRYU.
MAN
We don’t like this any more than you do… Kiryu-san.
But well… since we’re going to be working together from here on out…
How about we introduce ourselves with our fists?
KIRYU
They captured one of your own…
And yet you’re still doing whatever that bastard tells you?
Someday, you’ll be the one left for dead!
MAN
You might be right… But at least we’ll last longer than you.
The MAN in front of KIRYU is raising his fist to beat him. In this moment, the Monk enters the room.
MONK
Pardon the interruption.
MAN
What is it?
MONK
There is something I must show you.
This here is the phone Kiryu-san was carrying.
It’s not supposed to be on, is it?
He’s showing them the turned-on phone.
MONK
Something about the enemy discovering our location?
MAN
If you know that, then why not turn it off!?
MONK
Why, because I wish to save Hanawa-san, of course.
At this moment, KIRYU breaks free.
MAN
Hey! What are you doing!?
KIRYU
You said we should introduce ourselves with our fists, right?
So how about we get better acquainted?
KIRYU gets into a fighting position.
MAN
Joryu! You cocky little-!
KIRYU
Let’s go!
FADE OUT
After the cutscene, defeat all the Daidoji agents.
CUTSCENE 15 – AFTER DEFEATING THE AGENTS
INSIDE A ROOM AT THE TEMPLE – NIGHT
The agents lie defeated on the floor.
MONK
In a pinch, you still resort to violence to resolve things…
We still have a ways to go in our training, don’t we?
KIRYU
Is this really what you wanted? It might not end well for you.
MONK
Please, do not worry. I’m not even a real monk.
This temple and I are simply a facade.
Just part of the front of the Daidoji faction.
KIRYU
Yeah… I thought that might be the case.
MONK
Please save Hanawa-san.
To tell the truth, I was the one who recruited him.
Once upon a time, I was one of the Daidoji’s treasurers.
I needed someone capable to work under me, so I pulled him into this criminal underworld.
He was slightly lacking in personality… but when it really mattered,
you could always count on him.
KIRYU
I agree. And because of that…
I won’t let him die in their hands.
We still have a chance to save him now that I have this phone back.
MONK
You must get out of here first.
More men will be coming. Please be on your way.
If you do not make it out of here, you will not save him.
KIRYU
Yeah… I know.
FADE OUT
4 – ESCAPE FROM THE TEMPLE
After the cutscene escape, Kiryu enters the next room which is filled with Agents. Defeat them to continue. Always follow the yellow dot mission marker on the minimap or the map in the in-game menu. You will have to fight agents practically in every room. Special Bosses are Agent Raita, Agent Mushin, Agent Enzen, and Agent Saigou. Then you will meet Yoshimura again.
CUTSCENE 16 – TEMPLE EXIT WITH YOSHIMURA
TEMPLE EXIT – NIGHT
YOSHIMURA protects the temple exit with a group of agents.
YOSHIMURA
Now you’ve really done it.
You’ve made an enemy of the entire Daidoji just to save one man.
KIRYU
Out of my way. I just… lost my patience with incompetent leadership.
YOSHIMURA
Why go to such lengths to save Hanawa?
In the end, he’s just another pair of eyes on you.
What is it to you if he’s tortured or killed somewhere?
KIRYU
I’ve given up my past, my life, and even my name.
I have no hope for the future.
He’s the only connection I’ve made during this dull, pathetic existence.
YOSHIMURA
To think the Dragon of Dojima would sound so pitiful…
KIRYU
Even when a yakuza put a gun to his head,
Hanawa told me not to bother saving him.
Wanted me to prioritize myself and the people I care about over his own life.
If I turn my back on him and become your lapdog…
What would I have left?
YOSHIMURA
What a load of bull. Why the hell should I care!?
KIRYU
Yeah… Didn’t think you’d understand.
And to be honest, I don’t care.
But if you’re going to stand in my way…
I’m going to have to make you step aside.
YOSHIMURA
Fine by me… Bring it on!
FADE OUT
Defeat Yoshimura and his minions to continue with the main story.
CUTSCENE 17 – TEMPLE EXIT AFTER THE FIGHT
TEMPLE EXIT – NIGHT
YOSHIMURA and his minions are defeated. The burner phone is ringing and KIRYU is picking it up.
TSURUNO
(at the other end of the phone)
Did yer phone die?
KIRYU
Yeah. It’s on now.
TSURUNO
Thought maybe you’d turned yer back on Hanawa-san.
KIRYU
I take it he’s alive?
TSURUNO
Yep. Ain’t go an’ kill a valuable hostage.
Make sure to come to the place I’m ’bout to tell ya.
It’s called Survive. It’s a joint in Ijincho’s Bar District.
I’ll be waiting there for ya. And make sure to some alone.
KIRYU
Of course. But it’ll be some time before I arrive.
TSURUNO
Don’t worry about it. We can track yer location with the GPS, after all.
And no turnin’ that phone off without warning again, alright? Be seein’ ya.
FADE OUT
SURVIVE BAR – NIGHT
KIRYU is entering the Survive Bar. There is only a BARKEEPER and TSURUNO.
BARKEEPER
Welcome.
KIRYU
I’m meeting someone.
BARKEEPER
Go right ahead.
TSURUNO is sitting at one of the tables with the back to the door. KIRYU joins him.
TSURUNO
Hey, li’l lady, get my friend here one of what I’m havin’.
BARKEEPER
Of course.
KIRYU
Why this place?
TSURUNO
‘Cause it’s the safest spot in all of Ijincho.
Usually, this scary-a*s bartender is keepin’ a close eye on things,
but sounds like he’s got a bad back today.
BARKEEPER
Yes, he’s out sick. Sorry about that.
TSURUNO
It’s fiiine.
FADE OUT
SAME LOCATION – A BIT LATER
Both are having the same drink. KIRYU is taking a sip.
KIRYU
Didn’t expect you to be this upright. You’re alone?
Thought you’d bring a few of your men with you.
TSURUNO
I jus’ wanna talk. Need ya to open up yer heart to me a bit.
KIRYU
How’s Hanawa?
TSURUNO
Still breathin’. He’s part of the reason I wanna chat.
KIRYU
You said you’re operating under orders from Watase?
Isn’t he in jail? I saw it on the news at some point.
TSURUNO
We got our orders right before he went in.
Yup, it’s taken us that long to follow yer trail.
But finally… Here I am, sittin’ right across from ya.
KIRYU
Sorry to break it to you, but I’m not this Kazuma Kiryu you guys are looking for.
TSURUNO
Geez, knock it off, already.
From watchin’ ya, we figure we’ve got the gist of what’s goin’ on.
You made some kinda deal with the Daidoji faction, didn’t ya?
I’m guessin’ their end involves protectin’ Haruka Sawamura
and the kiddos at Morning Glory.
TSURUNO puts a picture of a group with KIRYU, a woman, and a bunch of kids on the table. KIRYU is looking at it.
TSURUNO
Anyway, here’s my theory. Daidoji was the Fixer,
and he had a secret society with a nasty reputation.
The Yomei Alliance that s’posedly killed ya in Hiroshima are muscle for ’em.
Ya beat their pants off, but in order to make a deal with the Daidoji,
you had no choice but to die.
Which means… You agreed to all this.
That bein’ the case, I’m thinkin’ maybe you were the one
who came up with the whole idea.
All to protect those precious li’l tots.
Speakin’ of kids… Say we take ’em hostage too, would ya talk to us then?
KIRYU
Go ahead… Try it. You, your crew, Watase…
I’ll make you regret you were even born.
TSURUNO
… Well, seems like my theory was right on the money.
KIRYU
It’s Tsuruno, right?
Supposing I am Kazuma Kiryu, what does Watase want with me?
TSURUNO
Before I can tell you that, I’ll need ya to promise me you’ll do it.
‘Else, my lips are sealed.
No guarantee on Hanawa-san’s life, either
KIRYU
You want me to agree to something before knowing what it is?
TSURUNO
There’s somethin’ in it for you too, of course.
If ya accept our deal…I’ll get rid o’ that Daidoji collar ’round yer neck.
KIRYU
What…?
TSURUNO
It’s simple. All ya gotta do is die, one more time.
If ya do what the boss is askin’, we’ll fake Kazuma Kiryu’s death once again.
But this time, it won’t be the world you’re deceivin’ – it’ll be the Daidoji.
If they think yer dead, ain’t no point watchin’ ya any longer, yeah?
Haruka Sawamura and the other kids…
It’d be a big ask to live with ’em again, but…
Bet you’d at least be able to meet up once in a while.
You’d get to see ’em again. All them kids at Morning Glory.
But for that to happen… Hanawa-san has to die.
KIRYU
What?
TSURUNO
If we’re gonna convince folks that Kazuma Kiryu died a second time,
we’ll need Hanawa-san’s body.
Is that really so bad?
He’s the very man holdin’ yer leash for the Daidoji.
Jus’ break away and be free. What’s there to worry about?
You’re about to die and come back to life again… Kiryu-san.
