Starting the Fool’s Gold Quest in Dead Island 2

You’ll kick off the “Fool’s Gold” quest during your time in Santa Monica, but only after you’ve progressed through the story and completed the main quest at the Santa Monica Pier. Head to the Lifeguard Tower, where you’ll face a named Crasher Zombie called Dante. Whenever you spot named zombies, make sure to kill them, as they often drop valuable items or trigger quests.

Defeat Dante, and he’ll drop a note titled “A Totally Legit Letter”. This item officially starts the Fool’s Gold questline.

Collectible 1: A Totally Legit Letter

This letter reveals that Randy (likely Dante’s accomplice) left an important package in his locker at the Lifeguard Tower. The content reads:
“It’s too big to slip in your locker, so I locked it in mine. Take my key, but don’t lose it!”

Now that you’ve got the locker key, your next step is to proceed downstairs in the Lifeguard Tower.

Opening Randy’s Locker – Finding the Next Clue

Head to the ground floor of the Lifeguard Tower to locate Randy’s locker. Open it to find the second collectible, “Deep Sh*t.”

Collectible 2: Deep Sh*t

This note provides crucial details about a buried safe containing a unique weapon. While it confirms the safe’s location outside HQ, the code is incomplete. It reads:
“… we only got half the code: 19-XX-XX-94.”

Randy also mentions meeting two accomplices, J and B, to retrieve the full code. To progress, you’ll need to track down their locations.

Meet “B” for Frozen Yoghurt

The first stop is at the frozen yogurt shop. On the north side of Santa Monica, adjacent to Luigi’s Pizzeria, you’ll find an alleyway. Here, you’ll come across a dropped phone that contains your third clue.

Collectible 3: Flaws in the Plan

The phone conversation reveals the third part of the safe’s combination. Apparently, B got paranoid and screamed that the third number is 37. Now, you just need to find “J” to complete the code.

Meet “J” at the Pier

Head to the Santa Monica Pier and approach the Ferris Wheel. Look for a phone left on a bench to unlock the fourth collectible.

Collectible 4: Meeting of the Minds

This final note humorously depicts a chaotic exchange between Randy and J. While their plans may be a mess, Randy manages to confirm the complete safe combination. With all the pieces in place, it’s time to open the safe.

Unlocking the Safe – Location and Rewards

The safe is located on the east side of the Lifeguard HQ in Santa Monica, near the Fast Travel point. Before accessing the safe, you’ll need to clear out a group of zombies in the area.

Rewards:
Once the safe is open, you’ll receive a powerful weapon and the coveted Superior Melee Liquidator Mod. These tools will undoubtedly come in handy as you continue your adventure through Dead Island 2.
