1 – Start Prudence in All Things at Hunters’ Camp
Location: Hunters’ Camp – the Hake house in the south of the camp
Hints: none yet, the case starts at the door of the Hake house
Prudence in All Things is the Haunting Case of Prudence Hake, the cook of Hunters’ Camp, which is why many players know it as The Cook. The Hakes live in the south of the camp. Follow the map below to their house to start the case.
2 – Investigate the Hake House: Hint 1
Location: Hunters’ Camp – inside the Hake house
Hints: 1 of 6
Knock on the door and enter the house. There are a few things to look at as Red: the map on the table, the cooking pot in the fireplace, the letter on the table and the letter on the small bookshelf.
The bucket on the floor only reacts to Antea, so switch to her to interact with it. This reveals numbers written all over the house. Interact with the numbers to get your first hint.
Hint 1 of 6 – Prudence Hake
As a cook, Prudence Hake makes an excellent letter-writer.
3 – Follow the Map to the Three Oaks: Hint 2
Location: The forest west of Hunters’ Camp – the three oaks
Hints: 2 of 6
Destroy all the barriers and crates that lead to the back of the Hake house. Behind them is a secret passage into the forest. Follow the path all the way west until you reach the three oaks from the map. Prudence is waiting there, so talk to her.
Hint 2 of 6 – Prudence Hake
Prudence Hake is secretly French.
4 – Follow the Trail of Numbers and Find Prudence’s Cypher: Hints 3 and 4
Location: The forest west of the three oaks
Hints: 3 and 4 of 6
Switch to Antea. She sees the same numbers you found in the Hake house shining brightly in the wilderness. Follow them westward until you see the ghost for the first time.
Right where the ghost stood is a barrier you can destroy as Red. Behind it, inspect the book on the floor to pick up Prudence’s Cypher.
Hint 3 of 6 – Prudence Hake
Prudence Hake was responsible for the destruction of food supplies.
Keep following the glowing trail and the numbers until you reach the bowl shown in the screenshots below. Interact with it for the next hint.
Hint 4 of 6 – Thomas Hake
Out of love for Prudence Hake, the ghost kept a heavy secret.
5 – Track Down the Ghost of Thomas Hake: Hints 5 and 6
Location: The waterfall north of the trail
Hints: 5 and 6 of 6
Keep following the trail and the shining numbers. At this spot you have to climb up the yellow wall to continue.
Head north toward the waterfall. You are in the right place when Thomas appears and ghosts attack you. Defeat them, then pick up the glowing chisel at this location.
Hint 5 of 6 – Thomas Hake
Thomas Hake’s nightmares drove him to cut his own throat.
Now Thomas Hake is ready to talk. He stands near the water to the north. Talk to him to get the last hint of the case.
Hint 6 of 6 – Thomas Hake
Thomas Hake swore to protect his wife forever.
While you talk to Thomas, Prudence joins you. After the conversation, you decide the fate of Prudence and Thomas. You have three choices: Blame Prudence, Ascend Thomas or Banish Thomas.
6 – Should You Blame Prudence Hake or Ascend or Banish Thomas?
Choice: Closure of Prudence in All Things
Affects: Antea’s ending and whether Prudence stays in the game
There is no right or wrong answer. Prudence is a French spy who sabotaged the colony, but Thomas only ever wanted to protect her. If you want to spare her, ascend or banish Thomas. If your focus is bringing Antea back, you have to blame Prudence. Here is what each choice does:
Blame Prudence
Red kills Prudence with the Blame ritual. Thomas does not forgive you for it: his ghost turns into a Specter that attacks you at the nearby cemetery, so be ready for a fight. Prudence is gone from the game for good. Blaming counts toward resurrecting Antea.
Ascend Thomas
Thomas leaves this world peacefully, and Prudence lives. This is the gentlest ending, since Thomas only lingered to protect his wife. Ascending counts toward Antea’s ascension.
Banish Thomas
Red drives Thomas away with the Banishment ritual. Prudence lives, but she is visibly distraught by what you did to her husband. Banishing also counts toward Antea’s ascension.
What Happens to Prudence Later
Prudence only stays in the game if you ascend or banish Thomas. Sending Thomas on earns you her trust, and she comes back to ask Red for a favor later. If you have killed Pennington by then, she asks you for a slightly different favor instead.
What Happens Next
Once you have also solved Hammer and Tongs, Thickskin is ready to talk to Red, which starts the next case, The Beast.
